Yeah right, I'm sure its "clean Coal Technology". Coal is out the door until the technology can be proven to be clean and not spew mercury, cadmium, lead and arsenic in the air and water sources. WE NEED YOU PEOPLE in Sevier Valley to help us out. Nevco/SPC/TDA Foundation is pushing a 270 mg coal fired power plant in our small valley in the heart of homes and farms, complete with ash storage on site. Sevier Power will burn over 940,000 tons per year. Enough to pollute us all!

Do you people honestly think this really happens with a coal fired power plant????? I live 7 miles from one and its not what you think it is. There is no smell, it is quite a sight in fact. It has been the best thing to come to our county. It has employed close to 350 people for 25 or so years now. Do you want to continue to want power down the road??? Well if you do you need to look towards the future and your power supply....

We have to stop the building of any of the Coal Fired Plants now.

I wouldn't expect less from "coal plant wife." But she has to understand that foes of coal power are not trying to shut down current plants. Her husband will not lose his job. We are trying to prevent more coal plants. Not one single person, including those who work at coal plants, could ever convince me that they don't put out pollution. Even the gov't admits it. Even the coal industry admits it. They talk about clean coal technology, and yet in their industry magazines, they admit there isn't clean coal technology and it may be years into the future, if at all. Hurrah for the author of this artcle, and a great big HUG for those in Dixie who sent the dirty (not clean) coal to the gov of NV. I pray he gets your message LOUD AND CLEAR!!!

We need to quickly come up with ways to save our planet, not continue to destroy it. Let's slow down population growth until we can learn to survive without destroying everything we touch. People want to create jobs but what about the harm these plants cause down the road? What about the future?!? Stop living for just today! It's the selfish greed that is causing the problems. Let's build plants that are not polluting!

There is already a coal-fired power plant at Moapa, Nevada not very far from where the new one would be built. St. George residents obviously don't feel any effects from it, or they would have written so in their letters and petitions, right? So there is no reason to believe they would have any effects from a newer--and cleaner--power plant. I lived for 9 years near the Moapa plant and have family that lives within 10 miles of it still, and it isn't a problem even for that old plant.

New coal-fired power plants are much cleaner than most people know. Solar energy simply does not work on the large scale--it is unworkably expensive and contains too many toxic metals. Wind turbines are effective, but cover too much land. Geothermal and hydroelectric are limited by location. Want a long-term, sustainable solution? Build a nuclear power plant!

I assume that they are sending coal, not charcoal (made from wood, not mined) to Governor Gibbons. There are only two practical technologies for producing large, commodity quantities of low-cost base-load electricity--coal and nuclear. Currently, coal at 54% and nuclear at 20% provide the backbone of U.S. electricity reliability. We don't want more coal, because it's dirty and dangerous (particularly to workers), so we need to look again seriously at nuclear energy. The technology to make nuclear energy safe is there, and what we need is to recognize that we should be reprocessing the spent fuel from nuclear power plants, so a deep geologic repository at Yucca Mountain would only need to hold residual fission product wastes, not the long-lived heavy elements that make spent fuel hazardous for hundreds of thousands of years.

there is no real hard proff that co is growing in the atmospher, it is still about 3% and thats the same % since 1930's. the green house effect is about $$$$$$$$ look at the people who push it and their bank accounts. Cap and trade will make them billionares. Co is a natual bi product of all liveing things includding you. So if you really care about Co2 shut down the big cities and breath only when nessesary. If no co2 in the air plant life would die!
