What cure, one win in seven. Thats bunk. Seems to me like the Jazz need to learn to play defense a little more and quit trying to out shoot the better teams because, when the other team turns up the defense in the 4th quarter, the Jazz have to shoot from the out side and they flop.

The jazz will not be a consistent winner until Sloan figures out how to defend against perimeter shooting. In the 3 games before Seattle, I counted over 40 uncontested outside shots, mostly 3 pointers, where there was no Jazz within 5 feet of the shooter. This also applies to opponents with great 2 guards that routinely score 35 to 50 points against the Jazz!! Finally, why are teams like Phoenix, Dallas and Portland able to drive the middle for layups (10 in the last portland game) and the Jazz none? Until Sloan figures this out and quits exclusively packing in his defense and letting opponents shoot outside uncontested and fouling 3 point shooters (4 times against Portland for 12 p0ints), the Jazz will be a so so team, not a championship challenger.

The Jazz will go 1-3 in its next four games because Sloan doesn't believe the 3-pointer exists. He doesn't defend it, nor encourage taking it. Until that is resolved, this talented team will continue to flounder.

Sloan keeps touting defense as the key to success, as if that's not a given for any championship caliber team. Yet, the Jazz don't have one. Is that the players' fault? Doubt it. AK's recent problems with Sloan (blow-up at the end of last year) are evidence he's incapable of connecting with his players.

Don't get me wrong, I think as a person Sloan's a nice guy, and as a coach might undertands the Xs and Os well enough to lead a championship team, but as he's said himself, "I'm not equipped" when referring to player/coach problems. Too bad. The "equipped" coaches are the ones who succeed in this league (as in Championships).

Just remember people, that the Jazz are a young team and are still learning how to be a great team. The way to be a great team you have to learn what loosing feels and I believe the Jazz team does. Also, a great team learns on the mistakes and work on the weakness, but understands the strenghts which is play as a team. The Jazz will go 4-0 at this road trip, because of the learning experience that they had experienced.

So they beat a lousy tired team. Exactly what was cured?

All of the problems still exist.

Sure they are young team, but they all a year older than last year, shouldn't we be seeing improvement over last year?

The jazz are now looking 40-45 wins and perhaps just making the playoffs, thats a drop off from last year!

We will get another lousy mediocre draft pick.
Didn't we see all this for years with stocton and malone?

Only 2 things to do:

1. play and develop the young players, get bad record but a better draft pick that can actually help win a championship later.

or
2. Do what ever you have to to win a championship now.

other wise it is years of mediocrity and false hope like it was with stocton and malone.

The Jazz will not succeed with regularity in this leaque until they learn to play defense. This team is excited to shoot and thats about it. Jerry talks about defense being the most important factor on the floor, but until he demands it from his players they will never be a top contender team.

I wouldn't consider the Supersonics a lousy team. True, the Jazz had 1 win in their last 7 games and this win against Seattle isn't a cure by any means. However, Utah can build off of this one win. As Carlos Boozer said, "The monkey is off the back." Let's be cautiously optimistic here. Coach Jerry Sloan is. If he wasn't, do you really think he would have renewed his contract with the Jazz?

This win wasn't great. The Jazz still didn't seem to play very well. If the opponent had been a +.500 team they may not have won.

I have a beef with those that excuse the Jazz as a young team. These guys didn't start playing yesterday. Understanding the importance of defense is grade school stuff.

I also understand that in Larry's world the goal is a filled stadium, not necessarily a championship. Offense gets all the highlight reel time, and sells tickets.

That's not exactly true, the Detroit Pistons haven't had a run and gun offense for 20 years, and they sell out.

Winning sells, it doesn't matter if it's high flying or not, and frankly the jazz aren't high flying, that's why Jerry picked Deron anyhows.
