Comments about ‘Utah offering $2M incentive for 'Musical 3'’

The poor struggle to keep warm and to have food during this time of the year when Christian celebrate the birth of Jesus. Why not pay all for these wealthy investors movies.

A good economy will help us all. I wholeheartedly support measures like these to encourage big businesses to spend their money in Utah. In turn, more jobs will be created, more taxes will be levied, and our economy will get stronger. All these things have an effect on all of us, including having more money available to support food banks and shelters.

Granted this movie defies the laws of tradition when it comes to sequels but $2M is a bit much. $1M (double the last incentive) would be sufficient. Unfortunately the "trickle down" affect doesnt necessarily work like most would want. i.e.: the bush tax cuts/refund. When an economy struggles people tend to save their money. The real issue here is Utah needs to step it up and keep the geographical structure of their financial investments centralized. A prosperous business district is incentive enough. SLC downtown is a ghost town. Perhaps the public works could create more jobs and actually plow the downtown area like any other downtown area in any major city in the states would be...spotless. What Im getting at is Utah needs to become flawless at its basic functions before pumping money into any entertainment related incentives. There's an advantage of being 2 years behind NY and LA (and many more) Let us learn from their mistakes and properly plan for the future as opposed to just trotting along like Idaho or any other neighboring state.

it's great that they choose Utah to film in, but when are they EVER going to make a film that takes place in Utah as well? I don't know about you all, but I'm kinda tired of my state filling in for Colorado, Arizona, Idaho.. and a normal film too, nothing about polygamists, or mormons..

I say do whatever it takes to get the filming of HS Musical 3 in Utah. It benefits many!

jtm, movies don't take place in utah because utah is not cool. Only people in utah think it is. Have you ever lived (or traveled) outside of utah? People don't give a rat's behind about it.

What a waste of taxpayer money. Most Utahn's couldn't care less about movies being made here. The financial benefit to a few isn't worth the price the rest of us pay to bring these types of business in. As for UT not being "cool," so what? Maybe all you cool cats should find a better place to nest than this decidedly uncool state.

JTM: Mega dittos on that! When the WB network filmed Everwood up in Ogden a couple years ago, it was supposed to be in Colorado. What a joke, lol!
