Stat of the game... Jazz 17 - 27 from the charity stripe...

Maybe we ought to start calling it the misery stripe.

Such a winnable game - but the Jazz get sunk by not sinking free throws.
rvalens2 | 3:18 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
One more foul shot made...
One more rebound...
One more steal...
One more 3 pointer...

And the Jazz win the game.
Small changes ... different outcome.

Now if we could only get the team to buy into Jerry's 100% effort philosophy.
Jimmy's Sneakers | 7:02 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Since Jimmy is sure eveyone else will whine about the negative, Jimmy will focus on the positive.

How about that Paul Milsap in the starting lineup, huh? 20 pts 13 boards, including 6 offensive, not to mention his 2 blks and 2 stls. Now granted he had too many TO's and he could improve his free throw shooting, but does anyone still disagree that this guy and his defensive effort should not be in the starting lineup?

With Milsap in the lineup our bench scoring struggled to eek out 7 points, but when Memo comes back he surely could beef that up with about 15 ppg.

...As far as the late game struggles go, Memo was the guy hitting those shots for us last year, but he hasn't been as clutch this year. Why? Jimmy doesn't know, but Jimmy thinks it is partly to do with his lack of touches during the game and inability to get into a rythym.

That was a very good game, anyone who thinks that Jerry is to blame has some serious personal issues to say the least.

If the Jazz had rotated just a little bit harder, brought the ball to the hoop just one or two more times, and excuted on just one or two more plays they would have walked away with a win. The same goes for almost all of their past five losses. Anyone who thinks that Jerry does NOT coach rotating hard into the paint, playing tough, and executing knows well, nothing.

This loosing streak is exactly why cranky Sloan was not happy during those wins earlier in the season. The Jazz are going to be very lucky if they're a .500 ball club by the end of this month. They're still a team with good young talent and have a decent future. Last night's game was fun to watch, and I guess that'll have to be enough. How the Jazz ended up with this tough of a schedule with this many games on the road against top teir opponents back to back is an NBA scheduling mystery.
AK seems to have found a habit of dazzling us early in the season and fading into inconsistent flashes. Okur plays defense like a 50 year old church baller and probably needs to sit out a couple more weeks and let Millsap develop.
Boozer and Williams are great on offense, but seriously lacking in defense. Do they want to be good, or great? The answer to that will be their attitude toward improving.
Overall, I'm not surprised one bit by the near .500 record. Last year, they overachieved, this year's more of a reality check. Loosing Fisher was a bigger deal than most claim.
Calgary Jazz | 8:39 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Sloan did ok, except in the start of 4th quarter when he played Price to much. Giricek would be a better option, because Price looked very timid out there - passed open jumpers and commited a offensive foul.
I do not know how you all think but to me when both Boozer and Williams where sitting on the bench Jazz offence and especially defence looked pretty good. They came back and Suns went on the game winning run...
Again without Memo in starting lineup even with Boozer coastiong as always on defence Jazz limited Suns to only 103 points which is pretty good. Not surprisingly without both of them Jazz looked so good vs Lakers. I think we should trade one of them for shoot blocking center - Dalembert? Chandler? Camby?
JD | 8:54 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
To beat a good team on the road, you've got to make your free throws. Other than that, I thought the Jazz played pretty well.
Tyson | 8:55 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Never thought I would witness Deron Williams blow a win by missing two freethrows!! Could've done it with those two, but it totally blew the wind out of the Jazz sails!! Pretty good all around game for the Jazz, but they need to play some freakin defense!! Their team defense is pathetic right now!! Oh, and Deron needs to stop getting so many turnovers!!
KSG | 9:15 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Fun game last night but representative of the gap between being a good team and a great team. Great teams win the close ones, good teams almost win them. I'm banking on the Jazz stepping it up to the next level once the hunger pains set in. That kind of passion can only come from within.
Right, Jimmy | 9:19 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I agree with Jimmy. My complaint is that professional basketball players should make free throws!!!! That was the difference after a fine effort.

Utah D was much much better. Look at long picture people! I liked how positive Slon was despite the L. It means he is teaching these kids.
What I Know | 9:38 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I was wrong the other day in stating Boozer had his shot blocked more than anyone since Brian Grant. How about Millsap being sent packing 4 times. Go up strong young man!!! Get the foul!! Then make your freebies.
Lee | 9:41 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Sloan plays the reserves too much sometims. Giricek needs to be traded, worthless to the Jazz...turnover prone with traveling calls, he would be much better if he cathes and shoot instead of dribbling the ball and turning it over....

Collins needs to go too... cant shoot, cant play D, and cant dunk....

Memo is terrible...cant post, cant play D, and cant shoot....trade him for a defensive big man...while he still has a lil value...

Sloan needs to activate Almond and sit Giricek...Let Price back up Williams instead of HArt...HArt can not shoot or get the JAzz into the offense...Let Brewer play more, he's the only guy that hustles besides Kirlinkeo...

Once these changes are made the Jazz will be a great team....If not the Jazz are a 500 team....

The Jazz will never be an elite team until, in the words of Charles Barkley, defense becomes a part of their DNA, not just lip service. Apparently with Carlos Boozer, it is just lip service. That guy plays defense for about the first five seconds of the possession, and then he makes no effort to stay with his man. Consequently, everyone else has to defend his man, which leaves someone open on the perimeter and plenty of open 3-point attempts. Our terrible perimeter defense is a result of apathetic defense in the interior by Boozer.

I was watching the game last night, and even Jeff Hornacek said, "Carlos, get down there," after his man had rolled to the hoop and Boozer stayed on the perimeter guarding nobody. If it's fatigue, maybe Sloan should play Milsap more so Boozer is not so winded down the stretch. If it's desire, then Boozer needs to stop talking about playing defense and be content with being the leading scorer and rebounder on a mediocre team.

What is it that stops a talented youthful wanna be champion team from buying into Jerry's 100% effort philosophy?
rmw | 10:08 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Poor Free Throw shooting and turnovers doomed the Jazz again. 63% Free throw shooting is pathetic. These guys are being paid millions of dollars and should be able to make a totally open shot from 15 feet away.

Jason Hart is one of the worst shooters in Jazz history. He heaves up shots that look like they never have a chance. Most thump off the front of the rim or crash off the backboard. Awful.

But aside from those negatives, they almost won the game. They just need to improve a few things and they should be back on track.

Overall, however, I think they are weaker than last year's team. They have some serious tweaking to do if they want to be competitive.
AZ Ute | 10:15 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Boozer can't guard my grandmother. Can't pass (or won't) pass out of the post once he gets the ball. No one knows how to rotate and switch on defense. You can drive a semi down the lane. The spacing on offense is too tight. Other than Milsap and Williams, no one on this team has any heart. Sure, this team has always given up the 3 point shot, but the scary thing is that this team must lead the league in giving up 3 point plays the old fashion way. Every deficiency noted is pounded into the heads of the players by Sloan- but they aren't getting it. Sometimes players just tune their coach out, which is happening here.
flusteredjazz fan | 10:28 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
we need a new coach. One that knows how to win games down the stretch. His substitutions are a joke, and we will never see a championship with him as coach!!!
Jason Kreis | 10:51 a.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Can't wait for RSL season to start. Better than watching a frustrating Jazz team lose 5 in a row. At least my team is only in its 3rd year, and now we'll have a stadium.
Jazzed | 12:00 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I'll go out on a limb and predict two things. Ist the new RSL stadium will turn into a white elephant that community leaders should be held accounable for and Fesenko & Almond will be starters for the Jazz in two years. GUARANTEE on both.
Backup | 12:32 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I'm very disappointed with the Jazz backup PG situation. Last year Fisher was a starter but when Williams went to the bench Fisher would stay on and be the PG. Why don't the Jazz do the same thing as last year but with AK-47. He is a better PG than Hart and Price.
Some Perspective! | 12:46 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
First, we need to stop trashing on Boozer because he is as good as anybody in the league on the offensive end. On the defensive end he will never be as good as some guys, even if he goes all out (let's just establish that right now and lower our expectations a little bit).
Now a message to Boozer: All that your fans ask of you is that you play with some consistent intensity and try harder. If you are going at 100% like Milsap and still come up short, we can live with that. I have been watching the Jazz (all 82 games of each season + playoffs) for 15 years. When our defensive effort was there with our core players, we have gone to the Finals. It's easy for bench guys to have defensive intensity, but it is critical we have it from all five of our starters. One last note: Malone was slower than a lot of guys on the defensive end but effort made him into a pretty good defender, at least a consistent one. We will NOT win a championship til Boozer gets that, but I'll be patient Booz. Plus we NEED Fez soon.

I'll go Jazzed one better. This one is sure to get alot of response, both ways. So here goes-- Has anyone ever noticed how mental maturity, character, and decision making relate to ink on the body? We had 2 players mouth off at the end of last season Re others players dedication on our team. These same 2 have made other statements about this being their team. I believe they think they are the next coming of Stockton and Malone. WRONG. 10 more years or so will tell. They both are talented, but are they good for team moral? Look how well we play at times when they are not in the lineup. Trade value for both is off the charts right now. Do you see the best players now and past decorated this way? I'm talking Nash , Nowitski, Duncan or Magic, Bird, or Jordan. The first I remember painted up this way was a guy named Rodman, anyone remember? Enough said. Troubled waters ahead.
Relentless aka Sokel | 1:37 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Don't know about you, but I was actually happy with the effort that was made...They need Millsap more...and Giricek. Kirilenko is actually shooting good..he never missed.Whats with that?
Come on...we were pretty close...Maybe Boozer just needed to watch Stoudemire slipping down the middle.
Harpring should show his comrades how to foul the lane snakes..
Re: Jason Kreis | 1:47 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Seriously!? If that's really Jason Kreis how about this year we play strikers who's entire focus is on taking shots on goal? The more shots on goal, the more likely you'll win. Last year was pathetic that we'd kill teams on TOP but lose cuz we didn't get enough shots on goal. When I went to the 4th of July game (like I do every year) the only person who actually looked like he cared if a goal was scored was Brown. He had 3 great attempts that barely missed. He should be the striker. Defense is super important but honestly we need guys like an Eto'o. The only thing he does is shoot at the goal. You know what it works! The reason is obviously the more attempts you make, the odds are at least some will get by the keeper. But also the more you make the Keeper dive to stop shots the more fatigued he gets and then you have better chances and just squeaking it by him. More scoring will get us into the playoffs (finally). Just holding the ball the whole game won't!!!

Moto X | 2:36 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
No doubt Booz is one of the top offensive players in the league but his defense is probably bottom 5 in the league. If you add up his TO's, his not getting back on D, the uncontested layups by his man, his not blocking out on rebounds, and his poor defensive rotations resulting in baskets..it negates all the points he makes. I like the guy but his poor defense pretty much cancels out his offense.

Another concern is that our team has become to predictable in the last 4 minutes of every game. D-Will can only see one player to pass to--Booz. He forces it in and either the pass is tipped going in or Booz is immediately smothered and turns it over. Everybody in the arena knows what is going to happen. Unfortunately for us we have all watched the result of that myopic approach the last 5 games.

D-Will is obviously very talented but seems to be very streaky offensively. Some games he can't be stopped and then the next it is 4 for 14. Then when he is not shooting well he does not seem to be as motivated to push the ball for easy baskets. Frustrating.

Jazz can't stop Nash, Marion, Stoudemire, Grant Hill, Barbosa
Jimmy Supporter | 4:16 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
To "I HATE JIMMY SNEAKERS..." Jimmy is not talking to himself as a third person dummy. He is talking to you and everyone else "in 3rd-person." Jimmy was right about Paul Milsap as a starter. Also, I agree that Memo has not been clutch like last year. Last year at this time, radio analysts were saying how amazing his clutch shooting was...and it WAS amazing. Where in the hell did his passion go? Out the door once he got married and had a kid? Boozer went up and made an amazing block last night on Marion. The refs are more to blame for Boozer's hesitance on defense than lack of effort. At the same time, I agree that MORE of an effort could be made. However, if he gets in foul trouble from being aggressive defensively, we suffer just the same. The ESPN announcer pointed out last night that losing D-Fish was a huge loss. I didn't think so, but hard to deny the fact that without Fish we are much weaker mentally and don't seem to believe in themselves in the 4th quarter - like they did last year with Fish... Price instead of Hart...please!!!!
Sokel | 4:55 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Tim Legler of ESPN says the Jazz need a third scorer and should empty the bench to trade for one, while keeping Williams, Boozer and Millsap..Maybe that is an idea...Okur has dissappeared...Hey maybe he is starting his summer early..Somebody tell Williams. I think he has.
Jazzsmack | 4:58 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
memo must not be the problem because he didn't play and they still lost.

Boozer gives up many points as he makes. He is undersized at 6 8. The team never plays better when he in the lineup. One problem with building a tema aroud boozer is that you put all your money in boozer and you have none for a center or a shooting guard, Strange since clearly power forward is the least important position offensivly on champoinship teams.

The game has past Sloan by he doesn't realize the 3 pointer is part of the game. He is living in the past.

Of course hart is no good he was NOT resigned by 6 other teams, what does that tell you?

We need shooting guard who can shoot and take over games in the last few minutes.
Jazzsmack | 5:01 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
And don't keep telling me Duncan is a powerforward.

He is a 7 foot center that happens to play the power forward defensively.

Beside is a boozer a 7 foot 270 pound shot blocker?
Jazzsmack | 6:36 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I think the question must be asked:

Did cleveland really make a mistake with boozer or did they really let boozer, his contract, and lack defense go on purpose?

Have they jazz been had???
Re: Jazzsmack | 6:40 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Nice logic. Memo misses one game and the Jazz lose. Must mean we can do without him forever. Great logic.

Duncan is a power forward.
ID Jazz FYI | 7:27 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Fes, Almond, Brewer and Milsap are the future but here is the problems with that.
By the time Sloan decides that Fes and Almond are developed enough we are two years down the road before they are significant contributors. Even Brewer would be riding pine this year had it not been for Fishers exit.
So by the time these players develop Boozer and Okur will have one year left on there contracts and I don't think Boozer will hang around if the Jazz do what they have done for the last 20 years and that is always looking for a diamond in the rough instead of going out and getting a proven free agent.
The other problem is going to be that if DWill gets a max contract next year then where are they going to get the money to sign Milsap or Brewer or any decent Free agent. Jazz will have AK, Boozer, Dwill, and Okur with contracts over fifty million for at least two years. Milsap and Brewer will leave like Bell and Anderson for the money because Jazz can't pay them. Good teams will put teams together to win now not two years down the road.
Jazzsmack | 9:18 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
I didn't say the jazz lost because they didn't have memo.

The jazz lost because they have boozer and hart and collins, and no star shooting guard, and a coach who is livingin the past.

I don't think memo makes one difference one way or another, it just nice having a center who can score.

And what ever you call duncan he is still a 7 foot shot blocker who make a difference, boozer is 6 8 and doesn't.
Hey | 9:49 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Its good to see that a few people are starting to notice that MEMO IS THE #1 PROBLEM. And the reason that teams are running double screens at the top of the key to rub there man off and then driving down paint by MEMO for a virtual uncontested lay up.
blue devil | 9:54 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
Just trade boozer for mike miller and darko.

hate to say it as a fellow blue devil, but he absolutely has no impact on the game. For all the pros that he brings he also brings as much cons. it ends up zero sum. we have the caliber to fill the slack from letting boozer go (especially if we can get miller and darko)

As of the game, once again, deron and boozer shoot more than 30 and we lose. Only once this season that we won with them shooting 30... when boozer is around, deron forgets about everyone else but himself and boozer...

Deja vu | 11:47 p.m. Dec. 13, 2007
During these last two minutes of the game, when the score is within one or two points, don't you hope that the Jazz will: Avoid an unforced turnover, hit a wide open jumper, make a defensive stop, avoid a 24-second violation, come up with one of those ricochet rebounds and/or make two consecutive free throws. But they don't. So they lose another close one. Same old story, different location.
asdf | 12:04 a.m. Dec. 14, 2007
I kinda agree with the Blue Devil. Promote Milsap and trade Boozer for good shooting guard. I highly doubt the drop-off from Boozer to Milsap is very large if we account for their defense.
Sinan From Turkey | 3:08 a.m. Dec. 14, 2007
Memo is this..Memo is that....I feel pain to hear those comments. Did the Jazz win without Memo ? The problem(Memo) was not there. Milsap made 20, good but result ? Jazz lost again. What i see is very unfair judgement of him. Memo was great as being only Jazzman to appear in all 82 games (all starts). Memo was great as called Money..etc. Now, look at people !!! giving advices to send him off bench or trade or ... Sorry guys i am not like you and i can't act like you. I am not a fan of only good times, i am the fan of good and bad times.
Dave Checketts | 10:54 a.m. Dec. 14, 2007
We lost because they had Steve Nash, who was trained at a young age in great sports. Maybe we should enrol D Williams into an AYSO league so he can adapt a little more creativity, vision, and ability similar to Steve's.
Re: Jazzsmack | 2:35 p.m. Dec. 14, 2007
Last I checked, Boozer was 6'9", not 6'8". And you take away Boozer and the Jazz are not going to score. I know he doesn't play D, but Boozer's scoring is needed. Duncan starts at PF, so he's a PF. The same with Millsap - if he starts at center, he is a center. He's 6'8" and undersized, but he plays like a center too.

Also, I think Memo should come off the bench. He does make a difference (as in 12 points per game), but he's not the same Memo as last year.
spenser | 7:38 p.m. Dec. 14, 2007
from what ive noticed is the losing streak started the day after sloan signed his contract extension. i think they need to get more consistent off the bench. and stop playing so darn selfishly
