A midrange shooter like Gira should be able to find holes in a zone and hit some easy jumpers...too bad Sloan waited to long to utilize him.
Wow, Jimmy, you didn't refer to yourself in third person in that post. I am almost dissappointed.
I agree though, and who better to know how to fight the zone than a euroball player who faces it every night in europe when he is there. I know that there are a lot of Giri-haters, but he has been playing pretty well this year when I have seen him. He atleast hits open shots most of the time. Better than I can say about some other players right now.
This makes no sense. Why did Sloan settle for letting Portland's only offensive star test Giricek while Brewer (defensive stopper) sits on the bench? He should have put Brewer back in the game to finish off Utah's comeback. The same way that I'm not interested in seeing Boozer test his three-point range, or see Okur test his crossover dribble...I'm not interested in seeing Giricek guard the opponent's best player.
The bench finally came alive and put the Jazz within 4 or 5 points in the fourth quarter. D Will and Boozer came in the game and choked. What gives?
If you watched the Jazz at the end of last year (including the playoffs) you would know that Giricek isn't weak on defense. I'm more concerned with his 1 of 8 shooting. Why is it that every team but the Jazz has an offensive threat at the two guard?
How many times has Sloan said this "He's a tough assignment for anybody" who can you say that about for the Jazz other than Williams???
Like Iv'e said before this league is all about match ups nightly. That's why I'm so excited about our team 1 thru 14. Given time with good management we can be possibly as good as any team in the league in a year or two. We have excellent depth at alot of positions, our only problem right now is experience. Just don't get crazy with salaries in the future where we get in luxury tax neighborhood, and I guarantee super success to follow. Then it will be interesting to see the comments from so-called experts known as jazz fans. Quality isn't made overnight. we are on the right track, please show some patience fans. Cold and hot streaks are a given in this business. The team we are playing tonight has just lost a coulple of games that should have been wins.
They need Giricek's shooting, veteran leadership and
defense...The problem is Sloan is not coaching...He has taken the year off.
Giricek...you must be like Sokel..and pretend the opposition is a Red Russian.
