Fabulous review, thank you.

daisylynn kent

after reading this ,i was very impressed with your knowledge and your obvious "getting it" of what this series is all about and i thank you for that.i have loved it since the very first opening scene and i love the chills, the thrills and especially the sacrifice, the love and mutual affection that exist between the brothers that will do anything for eachother, even give their souls and lives. that is what this series is about to me and that is what i love most about it.there are no limitations,no boundaries and no reservations for what sam and dean will do for eachother.everything else to me is just window dressing, its jensen ackles and jared padalecki that bring this series to life and these amazing characters to the closeness of my heart.i salute everyone on the series,no one is trival and i lift my hat to you for an amazing review, the actors that steal my heart every week and eric kripke that mad genius that came out with such an original, amazing and truly thought provoking series.thankyou, sir for getting it and realizing the awesome potential of the only series that i watch on regualar television...i salute you all.

Always nice to see some positive press on the show.
However I`d disagree about one major thing. While Ruby has worked out so far, the execution of Bela to me is the epitome of a good idea gone horribly wrong. Right now the writers want her to work on all possible levels: real antagonist, cutesy little nuissance and even potential hook-up and as a result she works on no level whatsoever.

thanks so much for your insightful write up. "Supernatural" is one of those great shows that has the misfortune to be on the CW, where it is largely not widely publicized as opposed to lesser quality shows, and on Thursday nights against some killer competition. So basically the only way to get new viewers is by fan word of mouth and positive write ups in the media. So thanks for spreading the news on one of the best, most innovative and postive (the love between the two brothers speaks so much about the value of family) shows out there.

I couldn't agree with you more! Terrific article on a show that deserves far more promotion than the CW gives it--and way more viewers than it gets in the murderous 9 PM time slot Thursdays against GREY'S ANATOMY, CSI and THE OFFICE. When Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, the actors who portray Dean and Sam, appeared at a recent convention in Chicago, they were gifted with special coins from a marine who told them that SUPERNATURAL is the most-requested DVD amongst the troops. That should tell you how special this show is! Humor, heart, brilliant writing, acting, production values and let's not forget that believable Winchester brotherly bond! SUPERNATURAL always has, and always will, rock!

It's wonderful to see press about a show that I think is such delightful, angsty, gorey fun. The work that's being done on this show goes under the radar and that's very unfortunate. On the merits, it definitely deserves a bigger slice of the ratings pie on Thursday nights. I hope that whenever the resolution of the strike comes, it can come back bigger and badder than ever.

It's nice to see positive press for the show. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have the best chemistry on TV and are fantastic actors. Katie Cassidy as Ruby has been a fun addition. I must disagree about Bela though. She is an unorginal character, terribly executed. I also disagree on Dean's reaction to her. I have rarely found a character so convincing in saying "Next time I see you I'll kill you" as he was to her. Jensen Ackles nailed that line like it has never been nailed before. Dean seems truly disgusted by her and she deserves it. She's not just a nuisance, her actions constantly put other people's lives in danger simply to collect her fee. More importantly she's nearly gotten Sam killed twice. The only thing which changed her actions was having her own life threatened, not her conscience. Dean loves his brother more than life itself which is why he sacrificed his soul for him, that's unforgiveable for him. Now if the only writers would stop trying to pretend otherwise because the CW mandated a second hot chick, the character might actually work as a full blown evil antagonist.

Thank you for writing such a positive article about such a great show. I got hooked this summer watching reruns. I remember thinking that the guys are just great together. I had to go out and buy the Season 1 and 2 dvd's so I could really catch up before Season 3. It is true that they recap everything before hand, but that is what made me want the dvd's. This show is sadly under-rated. Here's to another 3 (well more) seasons of the only to have captured my heart...Ever.

Thank you, Mr. Pierce, for taking the time to review our beloved show which suffers from burial in the timeslot of death. You're right; not many series could manage to reinvent themselves so successfully; its two lead actors meld so seemlessly that one forgets they aren't real life brothers. That's what attracts me when all is said and done: Supernatural is a full on family drama disguised as a ghost chasing romp. Who can't appreciate the unconditional love that leads a father, and then a brother, to sacrifice their souls for a son and a younger sibling loved as if he were a son? I love what Dean's deal has allowed them to do in terms of the brothers' dynamic and relationship. Add in all the spooky fun, and I'm addicted. As for the new girls, one out of two isn't bad. I much prefer Ruby to Bela, but Bela will work as a character if she remains a legitimate antagonist. I fear an attempt to "redeem" her coming down the pike. That would be a mistake. Other than Bela's character, I have no serious complaints with this season.....except for the writers' strike that will cut it short. *sobs*

It is SO GOOD to see press that truly understands the creative marvel that is Supernatural. Wonderful writing, two hugely well-rounded and complex main characters and two fabulous young actors (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) who bring them to life - this is what good TV is all about. While I personally have not enjoyed the handling of the character Bela, I'm definately still enjoying the fabulous ride that this show is and can't wait to see what's next!!!

Stephanie

It is so nice that someone else appreciates the show as much as we do. Thanks Mr. Pierce

"Supernatural" is fantastic. I live in Brazil and we are huge fans down here.
Bravo Mr.Pierce, your article is brilliant and I thank you for the chance to read it!

Thank you for your amazing review,it's a nice change to see someone actually watch and enjoy what they review.Whether its a stand-alone episode or a continuation of an ongoing story, the writing and acting is always first rate.Jared and Jensen have such chemistry and their huge range of emotion and acting ability never ceases to amaze me.From tear-jerking to hilarious, from horror to action, Supernatural has it all.Eric Kripke has taken a simple idea and taken it to the limits and beyond, without becoming stale or predictable or swamped with questions that are never answered.Supernatural is a show that can be watched by any age,sex or type, avid fan or newcomer and will always entertain. This program has had me hooked from the beginning and just goes from strength to strength.I haven't seen season 3 yet,so I can't comment on Ruby and Bela but I have no doubt that this season will be as good if not better than the last two seasons and here's to many more.Long live the Winchesters.

I really appreciate the honest and positive review. So much of this fandom is bogged down with negativity (as you can even see in the comments). I was starting to think that I was the only person in the whole fandom who liked BOTH Ruby and Bela. Thank you for taking the time to write this--we all appreciate it!

Angie

It's nice to have a positive review, but I disagree with you about Bela, and the reinvention. There is a lot of negativity surrounding the show for a reason. It's because the show has been reinvented, and the majority of the core fanbase doesn't like it. There was no NEED to reinvent the show. It was fine the way it was, until Dawn Ostroff stepped in and demanded changes - Bela being the big one. She's been shoehorned into the show, and she's the worst character I've ever seen on Supernatural. She's a cliched Mary Sure from the roots of her hair to the tips of her toes. I miss the great guest stars of last season and the writing and music. And so do most fans who want more than comedy and T&A.

*Angie,* you haven't visited sn.tv if you think the fandom hates this season. The majority of fandomdoes NOT hate it. Don't speak for us. I don't agree that the show's been reinvented to any great degree. The characters have simply evolved and are reacting to a situation (Dean's impending death) that they've never deal with before. It's new territory for Sam and Dean. I like that they're allowed to change as human beings and as men. Sam and Dean can't deal with the monster of the week every week; the series would have gotten old very fast that way and you'd be the first to complain. Mr. Kripke had already created the character of Ruby. She wasn't forced on anyone. I quite like her and I like Bela, though not as much as Ruby. "Red Sky at Morning" didn't appeal, but "Bad Day at Black Rock" was hysterical. I watch Supernatural for the mythology. I don't watch to gaze at the loveliness of my "tv boyfriends" and resent any intruders that happen to be female, pretty, and under 35. I want to see how Dean gets out of this deal. I want to see Sam implode.

Thanks for your great review!! I hope you continue to spread the word about this underrated show. The writing, acting, music, FX, etc. are all outstanding! The SN fandom is a very dedicated group (whose opinions vary from time to time) and I for one am so excited to see any promotion of the show I love!!! Thanks again!

Rebecca

I really dont think Bela and Ruby fit in all that well. Personally I dont think the show needed to be reinvented as I think it was fine the way it was before. Ruby and Bela are just there to draw in more of a crowd.

I like Bela, dont get me worng, but she is there becasue Dawn Ostroff has to have "girl power" in every dang show on the network, and I as a female was more empowered by the brotherly relatioship
then I am with Ruby and Bela. I, for one, would like a man to run the CW and lets see what happens with Supernatural. Dawn can't run ads right unless they are about the girls.

Oh, well, at least when all these over advertised shows fail, SN will be advertised right. Until then, all I can do is wait.

And thank you for not mentioning Buffy. I am sick of hearing about Buffy every time this show is talked about. Plus youre one of the few writers who knows what they are talking about.
