Boylen says HE'S disappointed?? Way to throw the team under the team bus! It's time for a new coach. Boylen has NBA caliber players and he can't get them to win. There are several good high school coaches in Utah that could do better.
to "Time for a new coach" - Hello!! Time for you to wake up! Boylen is doing a good job with a group of players that had a losing record last year. From what I've seen, the Utes do not have one player that will even be drafted by the NBA. If a couple of them work hard and develop offensively and defensively, then maybe he will have a chance to "walk on" somewhere and make an NBA team.
Utes played tough. Look out MWC, they might just surprise some folks. Coug's beware. If Boylen has Utah playing like MSU did against the Cougars Saturday should be a fun home and home series. That is a very good Oregon team with every body back. Good showing for the Utah squad.
with Time For A New Coach. Boylen often looks confused out there like he's not sure what to do. I think the jury is still out on him. We definitely should have won this game if not for poor coaching at key times. It looks like he isn't able to get a lot of effort from his players.
are you serious???? time to get a new coach???? thats ridiculous. im impressed with boylen, he had them at 5-2 in the first 7 games against a much tougher schedule while last year they were 3-4 with the same players against a weaker schedule. not to mention they only shot 47% on the road and its not like they couldnt get any shots because they shot more than the ducks, against a ranked team who went to the elite 8 last year, committed 22 fouls and 17 turnovers and STILL only lost by 11. this ute team is for real and getting better. by conference play time they should be pretty solid and a force in the mwc.
No there are no NBA players on this team. Nevill may get some time in the NBA and the other players are just local guys who somehow got on the team. Green can shoot threes but can not do anything else and Grimm is just the worst mr. basketball i have ever seen. It is not the coaches fault, he can only work with so much.
Time for a New Coach: Name the prep coach who would be better? You are a joke. Boylen is doing an amazing job with this team. Give him 2 years to toughen them up, get his own recruits and watch out, Utah will once again be the face of the conference like we are used to.
As far as NBA players go....hmmmm, Nevill is the only one with that potential but until he toughens up and plays with a nasty attitude he will not even be a 2nd round pick. The only other one that could develop NBA skills is Carlon Brown. Over time with Boylen he might develop into a prospect, but as of now Nevill is the only "prospect" we have for the NBA.
I think this UTAH team will be a force in conference play THIS YEAR. BYU is the only team that is better at this point. Give Boylen a chance, he will turn us back into a nationally respected team.
Everyone needs to relax in regards to Mr New Coach/ and Partly Agree. They are obviously zoobs making outrageous remarks. Who knows, maybed they did invent the internet, or the question mark. Obviously Boylen is going to get these guys where he wants them to be, they have already made great strides. Looking forward to a great season this year, and more to come in the future.
Anyone calling for a coach to be fired after his first 8 games of college basketball and having won 5 of the 8 don't have a clue about basketball, basketball players, and what it takes to build a program...my guess is the two people wanting Boylen to go would like to still be wathing Giac on the sideline. You folks need to get a clue
Please tell me these jokesters are Cougar fans trying to look like dumb Utah fans... Boylen is good. How does ANYONE win a game when you have all your starters in foul trouble by half time? They hung tough considering Oregon committed only 9 fouls for the entire game. 9 FOULS??? Utah had more than that 10 minutes into the game. 22 ft's to 5? Hard to win in those conditions. As for the guy who said Utah is a bunch of local guys who got on the team? Green is the ONLY guy who gets real time from Utah. Grimm gets minutes here and there, as for the rest; Bryant (Cali) Borha (NYC) Neville (AUS) Kepkay (CAN) Tillie (FRA) Brown (Cali) Weigh (AUS) Drca (SERB) All of these guys are far from local and a couple of them will play in the NBA. Brown is a Freshman, Weigh, Drca, and Tillie are all sophs. Give em time. And Boylen is a GREAT coach. Did you expect a 11-19 team to be 30-0? Get real.
I don't think that the opinions of random fans (who are probably cougs in disguise) matter to this coach. If you get the chance, go ask a player what he thinks about Boylen and that should tell you everything, I have heard it in their own words. To say Boylen is on the outs is idiotic, I never saw these guys shut down a scorer like they did to Caroll from USU. And just watch Boylen during a game. it doesn't look like he is confused, he looks like he is a minute away from playing the game himself which is awesome. During the USU game he proved he NBA hops when Nevil missed a layup. Boylen will be great for this University.
Is this where the expectations of this program have fallen? Where we are happy with a 5-3 record? Where is our big win? Is it against SC Spartanburg, or how about our big win over High Point? No, maybe it is our win over powerhouse Weber State? Or Utah State who is a bad team. Perhaps it is our win over the powerful Anteaters! If you are fine with these wins, great. I am not. This team has the talent, why are we not winning. I get a kick out of you people who feel that anyone who says anything negative has to be a BYU fan. BYU fans would be happy to have a coach stay as long as he wants if that coach can only beat the weak teams and never beat any good teams.
RE: Expectations- Dude, give the guy a chance. He is 8 games into coaching these kids. Things are still coming together. He will get the Utes where they need to be. It might help if people would actually show up to the games....
you need to relax brother... Remember 1998's team? The runner up in the national championship? And the team the year before that? remember how down they were as freshmen and sophs? No coach can turn a team into a powerhouse overnight. Boylen had the Oregon and Washington games within winning distance. Geacoletti's team would have rolled over and been blown out. Its about improvement. 8 games into the season and oregon is the 1st team to shoot over 50%. Last year teams averaged that. wake up
Quiet. Cougie.
1) Coach Boylen is new to being a head coach, so we need to cut him some slack.
2) I was at the Washington and Oregon games, I prefer watching the Utes against top competition.
3) Coach Boylen has to find his point guard, out of his own mouth and others Carlon Brown is the only kid on our team who can drive, dish, distribute.
4) Washington and Oregeon spelled it out, put Kepkay and Bryant on the wings, they can shred a defense from there.
5) I will be at Cal and Gonzaga, there is no way we win these games without a solid guard at the point, Jeremy Pargo from Gonzaga will kill us if Coach Boylen doesn't make a change. Bottomline, we need wins against these types of teams.
How committed is Boylen to staying long term? If he is successful, will he be a Majerus or a Meyer?
Big difference. Utah is a prestigeous basketball school, you dont get much higher. Football wise they are an average known team.
You don't get much higher? Really. Well then hopefully Kentucky, Duke, NC, Kansas and the other lesser basketball schools can improve their traditions and prestige so they can rise to the level of the Utes.
Cant get MUCH HIGHER. Therefore you can STILL GET HIGHER. Utah was ranked the 11th most prestigeous basketball school in history. Only a handful of schools are higher.
