Romney's address was perfectly appropriate. It was exactly what was needed at this time. I am proud of Mitt Romney, and for the impressive way he has fought an uphill battle for the presidency.

WOW!!! What powerful words. True in every sense. Wouldn't it be great to be governed by a president so in tune with the needs and desires of the human race and Americans in general.

Amen.

Simply masterful. Could not have been said any better. While some may be offended by him saying he believes Jesus Christ is the Savior, I highly respect and admire him to stand up for what he truly believes in his heart to be true despite the opposition of those who disagree.

"Each religion has its own unique doctrines and history. These are not the basis for criticism but rather a test of our tolerance. Religious tolerance would be a shallow principle indeed if it were reserved only for fiahts ith which we agree."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Way to go Gov. Romney. You hit a home run with this.

I would be proud to have Mitt Romney serve as my President of the United States and will support him as Comandr-in-Chief. He may be the best thing that has happened to America since George Washinton.

The speech was too long and gave the critics too many sentences to pick apart. Believe me they will. I believed that giving the speech was a gamble. I now believe it was a mistake. The loud critical voices will drown out reason and convince many who did not care about the issue earlier to vote for somebody else. If I were a Mormon, I would be proud of Mitt. He truly stands for what he believes. Unfortunately, it is not the electoral votes of Utah and Idaho that count.

Mitt Romney is the best man for the job. This country has allowed the religious right to speak too loudly in government. There should be the true separation of church and state. What people fail to remember is that our constitution also gives us freedom FROM religion - so why all the questions about what Jesus would do? Jesus isn't running for president. Go Mitt!
Johndoe | 11:04 a.m. Dec. 6, 2007

why do I have to vote here now to see the comments?

Wow - Thank you Mitt Romney for your words.

If ever there was a time that our country needed to hear not only the defense of faith but the reaffirming words of patriotism and vision for our country - it is now.

As the critical voices may be heard loudly in the near future, I am proud of an individual who stands up for what he believes in. He acts with passion to the people of this nation (and world) to offer them what HE can do. All while doing this without regards for what can and might be portrayed by his statements.

As a human being, I praise Mitt Romney!

Excellent speech on the history of America and the United States Constitution and his Christian devotion. I have no doubt that every condidate running for office could give this speech and it would ring true for then too. This speech did not change my mind about Mitt Romney as President of the United States. I could not vote for him or anyone that can't stay the path from one election to the other without flip flop on issues just to get votes.
Robert E. Brickwood | 1:16 p.m. Dec. 6, 2007
Thank you for words I longed to hear. You are my choice for President of this country. Please Pick Fred as VP.
Tom | 1:48 p.m. Dec. 6, 2007
Excellent comments by Gov. Romney. Unfortunately, the talk will be too long for most of people who are used to 5 second sound bites and tune out when the message becomes too intelligent. On a topic another commentator brought up: I'm tired of hearing about Romney's flip-flopping. Every sensible person has the right to change their opinion when they realize it is wrong. Pres. Bush is often criticized for NOT changing his mind about the war in Iraq and being too stubborn. I am critical of those who change their opinions back-and-forth, over and over, to fit the audience. But a true change of heart--well-publicized and occuring one time--what's wrong with that? It takes an honest man to say "I was wrong" and work to make things right. I hope Mitt goes all the way.

Oustanding! Just what we ALL need to hear, Democrat and Republican. As a service member who has served three tours in the current war to defend the liberties he speaks of, I'd be proud to serve under him. On his supposed "flip flops," widen your vision, critics!!! For heaven's sake, he was a Republican governor in one of the most liberal states in the Union. He brought the government together there and made things happen! With a Democrat Congress, he is what we need from the Republicans. His track record as governor and as the head of SLC Olympics speaks for itself. He gets results. He leads. He is the BEST candidate, regardless of his faith. Don't vote party, don't vote denomination, people. Vote for the best candidate.

Well done, Mr. President (I hope).

It really was a gamble, like John said, but I don't think he had much of a choice. Now that he's made his statement we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Jane W. Verbeck | 9:05 p.m. Dec. 6, 2007
Thank you Mr. Romney. What you said today touched my heart and my soul. You were honest and straight forward. God Bless you

In a country where morals continue to spiral downward -where neighbor shoots neighbor and mothers kill their unborn, where youth, shrouded in black, massacre their classmates, and families are fractured by infidelity and divorce, where "getting high" is the ultimate pleasure, we need an honest and devout leader who can be a righteous example to inspire us to get back on the right track again. Mitt Romney's speech gives me faith that he would be a fair and honest President and that he and his wife, both free from hypocrisy, would be an inspiration to this nation and the world. He did not abuse his power as governor to perpetrate a hidden religious agenda. Why would anyone think he would do that as President? He is an honorable man, and this speech is his pledge to all Americans. This man is worth prayerful consideration for the Republican candidacy for President of the USA. He can lead that symphony of diverse religions in peace and harmony - each distinct but united in purpose - to create a better standard of life in America.

"One nation, under God"...This is surely the foundational principle that holds our country together, and allows us to thrive in freedom and progression. Mitt Romney's message, given with such great conviction, honesty, and clarity powerfully reminded me of all that I hold most dear as an American citizen. His voice of leadership sustained by Patriot-honored Constitutional principles and freedoms, defined him as the man well-suited for the Presidential role he pursues to fill. He has secured my support for him as our future President.
Goose | 4:25 p.m. Dec. 7, 2007
if this is true-"One nation, under God"...This is surely the foundational principle that holds our country together, and allows us to thrive in freedom and progression" - What held this country together for the FIRST one hundred and fifty years?
One nation, under God is a 1950 statement.

Many who have submitted comments have referred derisively to Mitt's flip-floping. I am voting for Mitt not in spite of his flip-flopping but because of it. It takes courage to admit a mistake, regret it and strive to correct it which is what he is doing regarding abortion and other alleged flip-flops. A wise man changes his mind, a fool never does. Mitt is a wise and courageous man and will be an awesome president.
willie | 8:47 p.m. Dec. 7, 2007
Regarding the accusation that Mitt has a propensity to flip-flop, I offer this: A wise man changes his mind, a fool never does. Mitt is a wise and courageous man. He will make an awesome president.
