Interesting that one of the fastest growing and most unsustainable cities in the nation would have a problem with a power source to provide electricity to another of the fastest growing and unsustainable cities. Electricity is necessary for AC, shopping and golf courses, as St. George should know. A viable alternative should be presented, beginning with conservation.

There is a coal fired electrical plant proposed by NEVCO, a Bountiful firm, to be built in the Sevier Valley just north of Richfield, Utah , which is not desired by the population of Sevier Valley except for those county commissioners, who see an increase in taxes, owners of trucking firms, who transport the coal, and SUFCO coal owners and miners, who see their jobs sustained by such a plant. The Sevier Valley is narrow and air will become polluted by the emissions, underground water depleted by the cooling process so that farmers won't have enough water, and stockpiles of ash byproduct accumulate in waste piles which will be blown by the ever present wind in central Utah.
Please write an article on this terrible plant, which is a health risk for the poor powerless people of central Utah. We oppose this plant in an area of the state with beautiful clean air, which our ancestors settled. My husband's parents and grandparents are buried in the cemeteries of Glenwood, Aurora, Richfield, and Centerfield. We own a second home in Glenwood and don't want our gardens and air destroyed. The birds love it there as we do. Thank you.
