Jimmy's Stinkers

Jimmy is glad Jerry is such a grump. Jimmy things the Jazz are playing great right now. Jimmy does not want to jinx the justifiably jubilant Jazz.

E-Man

That was a good game for them, & they started well.
The bench has to get more consistent, but Harpring played well. I like Ronnie Price, he was able to hold his own against Prince. Not to shabby.

The Jazz are getting better & hopefully they can stay healthy.

Jazz Fan

Someone once told me that when we are unhappy with our work, the time has come for us to make a change. Jerry Sloan, have you tried the door marked EXIT? You are no longer an asset to the great basketball players who are known as the Utah Jazz.

Another Jazz Fan

Jazz Fan, you could be on to something.

Brandon

It was a great win but watch out for the knicks The will lose this one just watch and see

DCJ

Jazz Fan: "Jerry Sloan ... You are no longer an asset to the great basketball players who are known as the Utah Jazz."

51 wins last year and a trip to the conference finals, 10-4 start this year and first in the division, Boozer Williams AND Kirilenko on track to be All-Stars. Ronnie Brewer is averaging 13.4 ppg, and could make the NBA All-Defensive team this year--he is #2 in the league in steals per game, and #1 in the league by a large margin in steal per turnover and steal per foul ratios.

Yep, it's time we go out there and find somebody a lot smilier than Jerry Sloan who can finally take the great basketball players who are known as the Utah Jazz all the way.

TYLER

"Jazz fans" you must not be true Jazz fans, otherwise you'd recognize Sloan's strategy works. Try to think back (if you watched) the Rockets Jazz playoff series last season. The Jazz players executed Jerry's strategy near flawlessly resulting in a win, They also rallied past the Warriors because Sloan smartly played a completely different style with a different team instead of playing with them, we played Sloan's smart style of contained defense allowing very few inside shots, and played a steady offense instead of trying to rush the shot. But sure, think what you want.

TX Jazz

Three double doubles...not bad.

Jazzsmack

If the Jazz aren't allowed to enjoy winning, then what incentive will they have to win.

It may all be for naught anyway. No team has won a championship that was lead by a high scoring power forward. Save for Duncan WHO IS ACTUALLY A CENTER.

Not Malone
Not Garnett
Not Nowitzke
Not Webber
Not mcginnis (thats from the seventies)
Not tom chambers
Not sikma (is he really a center???)
On and on.

Those who don't know their history are condemned to repeat it.

The Jazz way of doing things is a practice in futility for almost 25 years. It can win alot games but never the golden ring.
But I guess if just winning a lot of game makes you happy then keep on keeping on.

Ty

I agree 100% with Jazz fan!! I'm getting so sick of hearing that Jerry Sloan is unhappy with the way the Jazz are playing! I think he just needs to stopping whining about how bad the Jazz are playing, and retire! He was a great coach, but now he's just a distraction!!

Bonnie Ronnie

I'm as much impressed with Brewer's free-throw shooting percentage as with his steals and around-the-basket play. I'll bet that's as unexpected. HEY! He's the one getting to shoot the technicals! He's even hitting 3-pointers this year. GO RONNIE!

It's amazing how well we did in that draft to get Brewer and Millsap. Keepers, for sure. With AK's resurgence, this team's really fun to watch.

Bri Radio guy

Jerry Sloan is smart. Coaches aren't smart anymore. Seriously, what won the game for the Cavs, give it to Labron, if he has a bad game, the Cavs lose. They don't have much else to depend on. Just watch the Jazz-Cavs 3rd quarter, the game played in Cleveland. No team work. Jerry Sloan has won with a whole slew of 'others.' Raja Bell was nobody until his stop in Utah. Bryon Russell was nobody after his stop. It's not just the Stock-Malone, or DWill-Boozer... but think, why are they so successful and eerily similar?? GREAT COACHING!

We have never, nor will ever have a KOBE, MJ or Labron. We have to win with not quite superstars. Phil Jackson got his rings on the coat tails of MJ and Shaq, what since? MJ and Shaq made their teammates better, not the coach.

Jarrod

uhm...Jazzsmack... Jack Sikma was forward/ center ...and DID win a championship with the sonics. you can call him a center, but at 6'11" and 230lbs and never averaging more than 1.2 blocks per game, I'd hardly call him a "center."

Lest we forget, there was this guy in Boston with blond hair and a porn star mustache who played power forward in the 80's who I think managed to scape up a few rings...Bird, or something..? Even calling him a small forward, you have to then take Kevin McHale as the power forward...again disproving your point.

Willis Reed could hardly be called a center by today's standards, at 6'9" and 235 pounds.. ring with the Knicks.

a lot of "power forward" types ahve won a ring, even though they play out of position, including Tim Duncan, who ESPN lists as the greatest power forward of all time, not a center. Why? Bcs. he plays like a power forward.

Re: Sloan Naysayers

If you don't like hearing about how Sloan is unhappy, then don't read the articles titled "Sloan Unhappy" in them. It's pretty simple. I stopped reading them long ago, but the DN keeps printing them.

What a mundane sentiment, anyway. Sloan is never happy. Here's when the Jazz can be happy: when they win a championship. Or I guess you'd rather settle for mediocrity and rest on the fact the team has started 10-4. That's good enough, right? The Jazz can coast the rest of the way and get to 45 wins and consider this year a success.

Pleased with Brewer

Brewer has made us forget about Fisher. Frankly, he's a better player than Fisher was. He's certainly a better shooter, and he's even shown some savvy passing the ball as well.

Best wishes to Fish, but we're doing better without him.

Re: Jazzsmack

You are a bit supersticious, methinks. I guess since Jazzsmack thinks that the Jazz's current lineup isn't good enough to win a championship on the basis that their power forward scores too many points, then I suppose they aren't good enough to do it.

That's too bad. I was really enjoying my time as a Jazz fan.

And if you're going to bend the definition of PF by saying Duncan isn't one, then I suppose anyone could fit into your twisted definition of what an ideal championship team is. He played PF on the championship teams, so that makes him a PF. Magic Johnson was 6'9" but he played PG. I suppose you're going to argue he isn't one strictly based on his height.

Unimpressed

Sloan has the right to be unimpressed at the Jazz victory. Rasheed Wallace wasn't playing and he's their best player. There's been other games earlier this season when the Jazz won when opponents weren't at full strength: 1) Golden State: w/o Jackson 2) Cavs: w/o Hughs, Marshall, and others 3) Nets: w/o Vince Carter 4) Pisons: Wallace
The Jazz have had it easy in this part of the season. I hope they can win when teams are at full strength. I'm sure Coach Sloan is wondering the same thing, too.

Re: Jazz Fans
You guys are some tough customers to please. We're 10-4 and returning from the Western Conference. Are we not moving in a positive direction? If it ain't broke, why fix it? Why sack Sloan? If you guys can't take Sloan's brutally honest criticism, then don't listen to him. Just sit back and watch the Jazz roll!

Re:jazzfan part deux

The best thing a group of YOUNG, TALENTED but SPOILED(in the payroll dept.) ballplayers need is a coach who keeps their success in prospective. Jerry isn't going to pat you on the back for the win if you turn the ball over so much you lead the OTHER team in assists! He's not going to tell you nice job if you're 7' tall & can't average 2 blocks a game. He sure won't brag on you for scoring 23 while the guy you guarded scored 43 & you only had two fouls all game. Jerry's keys to success are simple: Everyone on the team should walk off the court proud of their effort, if not...don't step back on to it. If you're too lazy to defend, block out on the boards or hustle after a loose ball, you're not worthy of taking a shot on the offensive side of the court. Jerry gives platitudes the old fashioned way..."You Earn It".
For that, in this age of money hungry crybabies who only play hard when their contract is up, I salute him. The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary!

Jazz Fan #3 (in Texas)

I have followed the Jazz since the old Salt Palace days. Yes, the Jazz are performing well, and deserve a shot at a championship. Yes, players make mistakes that should be corrected. Reality is ... one of the responsibilities of professional coaching in 2007 is public relations. Jerry Sloan missed the memo on that one. Exceptional coaching, excellent strategy, and "making" great players from second-class players? Let's give the players credit, too. The ones I have met are highly intelligent and very knowledgeable about the game we call basketball. Some will become successful coaches when their playing days are over. Maybe what the Jazz need to go all the way this season is a "Good job!" from the coach. And DN will put it on the front page.
