above the law

Why is it that these polygamist people always think they are above the law. Tax fraud, Social Security Fraud, Sexual Abuse of Children, Polygamy, and now Murder - Oh, and they always justify it by claiming theirs is a "higher" law.

Hooey!

Only in Utah!

Here's another Polygamous group, I am going to have to open pac when my sons go wrestle in some of these towns. This is lust gone wild! No wonder my friends tell me I live in a sexually frustrated state, don't know if thats me or the state they are talking about.

Jay

Yeah, after 25 years I'd say you can start worrying about something else.

Kyle

William Heber Labaron, shame on you for commiting crimes then blaming your church for it.

Rob

Where are some of her pictures so we can help in this? Couldn't they have been included in this article?

wallyworld

OK, now all of these wack jobs are NOT MORMONS!!!!!! they never were and never will be. So I hope people who read this story won't say that they were splinter gourps. It's a shame that all of these Polygamous groups are always mention with the LDS Church in the same breath.

Athena

above the law,

It's because when they decided to practice polygamy outside of the law from the start, they grew up with no respect for nuptial laws. That led them to have no respect for the laws at all. One easy, short step.

It is they who are ignorant or uneducated enough to not see how appalling their behavior is. I know Joseph Smith himself practiced polygamy, but I think he himself would be appalled at what those polygamist sects hiding out in Southern Utah do.

It's disgusting, and nothing but disgusting.

That is all.

It's a good thing monogamist never commit tax fraud, social security fraud, sexual abuse of children, and murder. Otherwise, we'd also have to add the label of hypocrite.

Big Love

I can see HBO's series Big Love didn't have to stretch to far or be terribly creative to develop their plot lines. Truth usually is more interesting than fiction.

Re: Kyle

I don't know what exactly you are talking about. if you are talking about the church his FATHER started and lead and the crimes he was COMMANDED to commet then shame on you for your ignorance.
But if you are talking about him pretending to be a "Former Mormon" and talking about how he committed crimes for his church then I think you meant to say...."shame on you for pretending to be a mormon and trying to blame your crimes on a church you don't belong to."

Brent Hartman

wallyworld,

I agree. There is no way that we, the fundamentalist, would want to be associated with those apostates in the LDS church. We'd prefer to stand with those servants of God, like Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and John Taylor, that were willing to sacrifice so much, even imprisonment and death, for those principles that they knew to be true. To put man's laws before God's laws means that man is your head, and not God. Read D&C 98. Read the first amendment of the inspired U.S. Constitution. God granted us the freedom to live the new and everlasting covenant of celestial plural marriage, as given in D&C 132. Only cowards would use the law's of man as an excuse to not follow the law's of God. I certainly wouldn't want to be associated with apostate cowards.

Are there whack jobs that call themselves fundamentalist? Sure. Are there whack jobs that call themselves LDS? How about Mark Hacking? Do all monogamist kill their wives? Should we judge all monogamist by the whack jobs within your ranks?

Of course not.

Polygs

KUED did a PBS-type documentary a few years back, and re-play it again occasionally, that showed that more polygs live OUTSIDE (6 states touching Utah + large numbers in Montana) than inside Utah.

They were careful to mention that these many and varied splinter groups are LDS wanna-bes, but never were.

Reporters looking for an easy sensational piece come to Utah looking for their stories.

re: Only in Utah!

You forget about the members of the polygamist sects in Arizon, Colorado, Texas, Montana, Canada....come on! It's not a Utah thing, it's the people...

Anonymous

There are lots of polygs here in this valley and everybody knows it.

Louise

The reason why polygamy is tied to the LDS Church is because the LDS church introduced it. To deny this is to deny your LDS heritage. Just because the church does not officially sanction it anymore for living spouses, it is certainly allowed in the doctrine of allowing men to have more than one eternal wife. My uncle has been sealed to three wives, his first two wives passed away. Let me assure you, within LDS Doctrine that is eternal polygamy.

The problem of polygamy was created by the LDS Church, and it will be forever tied to that problem.

To Louise

The LDS church did not CREATE polygamy. Polygamy is spoken of in the bible. It is an ancient practice that is still praticed in many Middle East and African cultures. Polygamy is not unique to the LDS church. Wikipedia has some great information about the history of polygamy.

me

If these groups want to call themselves mormon splinter groups, then that is what they are. Just like when mormons call themselves Christian.

to wallyworld

Many of the LeBarons were LDS before leaving the church. Not that its a big deal, but you are incorrect when you say "never were" in your post. Many were.

Not Christian???

To say a mormon is not Christian is totally ignorant. It is good you had no other argument in your comment, because it would have been invalidated by your ignorance.

I Love Jesus

To worship someone other than Jesus as Lord and savior is to deny that you are Christian. To follow any book other than the Bible as the one true word of God (ie, the Book of Mormon), is to compromise your Christian beliefs. Mormon and Christian are two separate things, and Mormons who claim they are Christian yet follow the beliefs and practices of the Mormon church are the ones that are living a life of ignorance. Jesus Christ is the one and only Lord and savior, who died on the cross for our sins.

Mark

I've followed this story fro the past few years and I've yet to read of any substantial evidence against Tarsa.
