Hate Crime

If this was a Baptist Church building in the south that had been torched, the self-appointed reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be all over it - marching and labeling it as a hate crime. However, since it is only an LDS meetinghouse, it is just someone vandalizing a building - ho-hum...

The only question I have is "DId they pay property taxes to get this public service? If not JUST THINK BROWNIE DID A GOOD JOB

Hate Crime - I'm so glad you found what you believe to be a legitimate excuse to rail against the Reverends Sharpton and Jackson. If they decide to comment on the torching of a Baptist Church in the south (presumably a black church) perhaps it's because they are Baptist ministers and they are black and that sort of thing has been taking place for decades - WITHOUT ANYONE CARING!

But instead of railing against a couple of politician/activists you have no relation to or have know understanding of, why don't you take your opportunity to comment in this paper to express symathy for those faithful LDS members who have lost their hallowed place of worship and wish the ATF God's guiding hand in seeking the truth. That's all we'd really like to hear - or need to hear from you.

To Hate Crime -

Who really cares if this is labeled a hate crime or not? Who really cares what would happen if this was Baptist, Catholic or Lutheran church building?

If investigators find that this is arson, and those responsible our caught, I have faith they will receive the punishment they deserve. If anything less than that occurs, then the punishment of those responsible will be left in the hands of God.

I disagree

If the Feds are involved, it is not ho-hum. It is being taken seriously. Remember the Feds don't want to mess this one up. When Romney is president, he would be pretty upset if the Feds didn't get to the bottom of this one.

A photo of the damaged building would have been a nice addition to the story. I'm sorry for those members - three wards in a building is very full, and now if they have to quadruple up in other buildings - it'll be very tough for a while. God bless them all!

My heart goes out to all of those members. I served my LDS mission to Mesa, and served in that stake for several months, and they are the salt of the Earth. Some of the best people in the world. That area is very socially mixed though, in that there are several streets of very low income homes, trailer parks, the more affluent Lehi area, and another very nice part of Mesa. Thats enough to create some bad feelings. My prayers are with them.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are cretins. They are, lamonte. So calm down. I completely agree that It must be impossibly difficult to simply walk away from all of the hatred and crimes that have been aimed at blacks for so many decades. The black community needs someone else to speak for them, because Al and Jesse capitalize on keeping us back in the 60's sans the social growth. We need progression, and they simply don't want that. I can't believe you'd defend Al and Jesse.

This has barely hit the papers here. A few lines on the 6th page. Bet if it was about Polygamy or something negative about Romney it would make the front page. This is not the first down here either. Another building in Mesa had $500K of fire damage a few years ago. Others broken into.

This is a pretty good area but some wacko's that do roam around. Soon we will have to have 24 hour security. Sad but true.

This is not my building but know it well. They will survive.
