Now, Jeffs will get to find out what it is like to be forced into being someone's wife.

Great! We've got one more polyg in jail.
Now why doesn't the law pick up the remaining polygs in Utah?
To use the illegal immigration POV - What is it about the law they don't understand?

Just wondering

Why was the trial held in Utah rather than Arizona.Where the marriage and Rape took place

willie

it was in Utah where he coerced her into marrying her cousin. That is the "assisting rape" part of the charge. Though they crossed the street into Arizona, the actual rape was not in Utah.

a little long

One thing that makes our justice system so great is that we give even the most heinous, despicable criminals a just and fair sentence when convicted. The length of the sentence (more than most homicides!) strikes me as unjust.

If the Washington County Sheriff's Office spent a LOT of money on Jeffs Well thats just tuff ship! take it out of YOUR own money!

and or fire some cops...

While Jeffs is a slimeball that needs to be locked up, this trial is really Utah's fault. They permit the abuses to go on as those abuses are easily trackable. When an under 18 year old girl is having children and they are being used to obtain welfare benefits and that didn't raise any suspecisions? The welfare fraud isn't the first timeand won't be the last.

another P.R. opportunity

Why was the trial held in Utah?
The LDS church wanted to make an example of this man who was "unlawfully" practicing what is known in LDS history as "The Principle."

Jim

One day, Jeffs sentence will end, however the scars inflicted on the children involved in marriages that he performed will never heal. For them their sentence is life long. Jeffs is not only guilty of child marriages, he is also guilty of child abuse.

I think the charges were unfair and the trial should not have taken place. Until there is a rapist in jail how can there be an accomplice. Our justice system has failed in this case and it's pretty scary. I don't agree with Jeffs or anything he stands for but our system is definitely failing in this case. He could have been charged with any number of real crimes that could have been tried but they chose this one.

Polly x plig

ST..... The only way the justice system has failed anyone, is that they have not put more polygamists in jail for breaking the law. It is not right what these guys force upon woman. How would any man like to be treated as these woman have been treated ? Think about it?

Gunn

I too think jeff's was unfairly convicted of rape. marrying someone under legal age, yes. Rape? Not even close. It makes me sick. Convict him of crimes for which he is truly guilty, but I think this was a sick community wanting to "show to the world" that Mormons don't like polygamists.

Dissapointed

Good post, ST. My comment (which the monitors did not seem to see fit to post) was something to effect that the poor hapless Jeffs was jailed because someone he married didn't get along with her husband over the issue of sex.

Maybe Sheriff Kirk Smith should use some of that 56,000.00 he wants from "Jeffs" to help pay for the "sexual mis-conduct" investigations that were committed in his jail, under his watch!

Brent Hartman

When will they start locking up all those other ministers that have performed marriages on minors?

Disgusted

This whole trial was a farce. I still can't believe they put him on the ten most wanted. There are so many people out there who are so much more dangerous to society than Warren Jeffs. A false prophet who's kind of weird? Sure. A rapist who should serve ten to life? Not even close. What a joke.

attilathehun

Awesome. How ironic that he goes from having 15 wives to having 15 husbands...

The victims scars will last until the civil lawsuitis won and the book deal signed.

Gail Brown

The ridiculous thing is the time, energy, and taxpayer dollars wasted by placing Jeffs on the most wanted list in the first place. Jeffs is not a good guy, but he has been turned into a scapegoat for Utah's discomfort with their polygamous community. It's despicable the way polygamous people in Utah are treated. What ever happened to freedom of religion? Let them live their religion in peace. Anything else is just plain bigotry.
