My view: Prosthetic care won't break system

Sympathies, but mandates are bad | 9:17 a.m. Nov. 19, 2007

Mandates in Healthcare continue to remove free market forces that hold down costs. While it may be true that requiring insurance carriers to cover one service in healthcare won't "break the bank," it is a slippery slope that quickly makes our current system unsustainable. Bariatrics surgery, bone marrow treatments, and a host of other worthy procedures for individuals are also wanting mandated coverage. We can't even pay for our current commitments, let alone more.

I would agree with the previous commentor if our healthcare were truly a free-market industry. What it really is is corporate socialized medicine. There is a host of legislation regulating and enabling the healthcare provider marketplace. With the marriage of healthcare and big corporate managment, the healthcare entitlement mentality, and government regulation, market forces actually have little to do with the healthcare picture in America.
