Way to take it to them grizzlies. that was a great game! i love the way you play as a team and not indavidualy. What a great game to watch it was full of excitement. Jordan Ballam you seem to impress me every week. keep up the great work jordan. i was sad to see manning go out with an injury tonight but i am excited to see what he can do next year. Good thing you have friends in high places. Logan's state titles before pickin on the little guys in 3A:0. State titles after starting to play teams with 1,000 less students: 2. Congratulations! Hope you're happy.

Congrats to Logan..Another example of the diveristy in 3A this year. Every region had it's strength's and weaknesses. This years title came down to who showed up to play and turnovers. With some of the issues 4A and 5A had this year(fights, transfers, walk-outs) its great to see the example 3A set this year with their sportsmanship and style of football.
Kudo's also to the coaches, students and parents.
Favero fan | 6:46 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Yes, Coach Favero truly is "one of Utah's most brilliant offensive minds."He consistently puts together successful teams. At the first of the season no one expected this team to go far because of most of last years starters had graduated but Favero did it again. He created another championship team. He is also a champion in the classroom. I know a young man who was obese and was not a football player but took a conditioning class from Favero. With Favero's knowledge, help and positive encouragement the young man was able to lose over 30 pounds. He is a changed young man. Logan is lucky to have Mike Favero as a coach and teacher

Way to go Logan! Congratulations for winning another State football championship and beating a fine Judge Memorial team. Great coaching by Favero and his assistants. The Logan players have shown a lot of heart during their miracuolous playoff run. You make Cache Valley proud. Congratulations also to Sky View and Mountain Crest for great seasons. Maybe next year Mountain Crest will let Logan play them in the preseason to add to the excitement of high school football!

Check your facts buddy. PV was actually bigger than Logan in 2005.

check your data | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
To Braden-Check your data. LHS won the 4A State Championship in 2000 under Coach Favero. LHS first year in 3A was 2005. That year they won the 3A championship but they also beat Skyline that year in a non region game. Skyline was the eventual 5A champion that year.

I like how Judge Memorial auctioned off the game ball earlier this week. I wonder what the poor guy that bought it is going to get now.
UHSAA | 10:07 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Maybe we can get them to help out college teams. You know, like USC can play Dixie State or Snow College to make the PAC-10 more fair.
UHSAA has always had to stack the deck against certain schools and will continue.
To: Deseret News | 10:10 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
I love how deseret news will come out on the Timpview article and say we are not going to post anything about recruiting, but they post all these comments about the size differences in schools on this one. I just love how biased this paper is. I've lived in Russia before, and I've never seen such leading propaganda as I see in the Deseret News.
Grizz Facts | 10:47 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Actually Braden and Anonymous, Logan was the smallest 4a school in the state for many years. In 2000 just a year before moving down to 3a they beat Springville for the 4a state title. In 2005 they played several 4a and even 5a schools, beating the eventual 5a champs that year and long-time powerhouse Skyline en route to another state title. So Logan High has been beating-up on more than the "little guys" for some time now. So much so that their long-time biggest rival Mountain Crest will not play them for fear of getting beat by one of the "little guys". Logan has worked for and deserved everything that they have achieved. People may try and make excuses, but nobody can take that away from them. Coach Favero is the best in the State.

Congratulations Logan for winning the 4A championship............I mean 3A Championship!
Mr Football | 11:38 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Good Job Logan!! Lets face it, Logan won because of the turnovers and the poor coaching from Judge. Judge i think tried to run the same plays over and over and twice on third and one tried to to pitch it. Again the coaches lost a big game for the bulldogs, repeat from last year.
Braden | 11:42 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
The disparity between the biggest school in 3A and the smallest (Delta, who Logan needed a miracle to beat), is bigger than the difference of all the other classifications combined.
Judge.... | 11:46 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Wish you wouldn't have auctioned off OUR game ball earlier in the week, gadda feel a little dumb about that one :) LOGAN STATE CHAMPS!!!07!!!
to logan-haters | 11:52 a.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Ben Lomond and Ogden High are not much bigger then Logan High, and do you see anyone complaining about them..? Just cause Logan has a great program and great coaching doesn't mean they should be playing 4A
TO: Braden | 12:09 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Thanks man, way to show that its not about the size its about the heart and who wants it more. logan came out fire-up and more excited then Judge and the score shows it.
outsider | 12:29 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
i think logan should drop to 2A now...why not? they are going to be down another 5 kids for next year. the uhsaa is a joke and so is logan for feeling good about diving down a classification.
Braden | 12:38 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Sorry guys for being such a cry baby, but when I think of some other excuses I will post again. My life is all about making excuses...I blame it on all those mean people at school.
Numbers Numbers Numbers | 12:53 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
re: Braden
Braden your numbers are probably pretty skewed. Logan High has grades 9-12, while most schools in the state do not count 9th grade numbers. You can take a quarter away from what ever number you are looking at because those are ninth grade students and are not counted among most other high school enrollment numbers.
to outsider | 1:21 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
i bet you are the kind of person at work that just always whines about something. Most likely you have grown up with always having an excuse why you did get the award and someone else did and then you would always act like you didn't want it anyway. You probably sit at work and complain to what ever co-worker has to put up with you as you bad talk any othe coworker that shows success. guess what, whine all you want, but Logan is still champions for this year and if they end up moving back to 4A one day, they will be competitive there too, then when they win the championship there again one day, what excuse will you have then. Oh, I can hear you now, "I hope Logan is happy with their 4A title, but they should have to play at 5A, because wah, wha, wha, wha...........
Braden | 1:33 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
I think it says it all when Logan was given the option at the end of last year to either go back to 4A with Dixie, PV and SC, or stay 3A. One year later, they're still beating up on the little guys. If Logan's so big and bad, why then didn't they opt to face stiffer competition? Give me a break. And even counting 9th grade, the smallest schools in 3A still have 1,000 less students.
To Grizz Facts | 1:32 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Congrats on Logan winning a title, they deserve it and are a quality team. About Mt. Crest, they just have a philosophy of playing bigger and better teams in the preseason to get them ready for region and state, it has NOTHING to do with not wanting to lose to a "little guy".
Logan Fan | 1:39 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Way to go Logan!! Excuses excuses excuses.... Logan kicked butt yesterday and that's why you lost Judge. Top to bottom Logan is by far the superior team.
- | 2:15 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
If Logan would be like all the other 4A teams and only have there schools consisting of Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors only, logan would only have 1000 students. for three classes!
Braden | 2:19 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
See I found something else to cry about!
To dumb bum braden | 2:22 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
so braden you're saying that the small 3A schools have only 300 students? wow
JM Alum | 2:22 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Congratulations to Logan HS. Simply put, Judge was outcoached and outplayed by a talented and tenacious Grizzly team. Logan was dominant and deserve the 3A championship title. Very impressed with all aspects of their game. Congrats also to Judge Memorial on a fine season. Hold your heads high, and next year, please hold on to the the ball.
Anonymous | 2:35 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Each of Logan's classes have more students than delta high has in their whole school. that's not right.
To - | 2:15 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007 | 2:47 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Not true. Check your facts. Logan has 1220 in three grades per the UHSAA statistics. Given that Juan Diego has 570 in three grades, 40 more than the 2A classification. Judge only 53 more. And think of Emery and Delta. They sure were ready to throw them out.
I dislike how the UHSAA operates. It doesn't help those of us from out of state recruiting in Utah other than the 5A division.
confused | 3:06 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
how are you going to say logan is "beating up on the little guys" when they were picked to lose by every newspaper in the state?
Solution! | 3:24 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
I know what we need to do to make things fair. Move Logan back to 4A, Judge to 2A and move Timpview to the Mountain West. Problem solved. Way to go Grizz!
LHS Fan | 7:28 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Congrats to both teams. It seemed to just be Logans night. I was wondering what the striped stocking worn by all of the Judge players meant. Does anyone know ?
Logan alum | 7:44 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
As of 2006, Logan had 1220, Pine view had 1427, Dixie had 1300. These are for the top three grades only. Other points of interest are Skyline is 5A but has a smaller enrollment than 9 4A teams. Current or year old numbers are only part of the equation. you must also consider whether enrollments are trending up or down. Logan's is basically flat with the prediction of declining enrollments in the future.
There are 2 4A schools smaller than Logan, Highland and Snow Canyon. Juan Diego is at 570 and Judge is at 605. The largest 2A school is Juab at 438.
This is Logan's 6th state championship. The first three were 3A but that was before there was a 5A so 3A was the second largest division.
Anonymous | 8:12 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Delta has 450. To tell them they have to compete against 1,220 kids is ridiculous. I don't know how anyone would feel good about that.
To: Logan Fan | 8:41 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Logan played a great game last night, and Judge was definitely out coached. But please get it right, you don't see any comments from Judge on here making excuses. Also, both teams are great, but to say that Logan is a better team top to bottom is wrong. We beat you soundly at the beginning of the season. That night was our night. You beat us soundly last night. That was your night. You know what they say in football.....any team can beat any team, on any given day. That is the beauty of football. Great game to all.
Enrollment Issues | 9:04 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Nobody feels especially good about Delta only having 450 and competing against larger schools, but I didn't see any complaining coming from their fans. They are a class act and just prepared and played the schedule they were dealt, as did Logan when it won the 4A title in 2000, despite being the 2nd smallest 4A team in the State.

It looks like Logan will soon be back in 4A and all the whining can stop. Logan will not whine about it, they will just prepare and play who they need to play, and they will be one of the smallest 4A schools in the State. Hopefully by then Timpview players will have graduated to the NFL and we will have a chance:)

Congrats to Logan on a great season! You guys are State Champions!!!!!

Championship coaching, Championship conditioning, Championship playing. 2007 State Champions!!!
Dawg Fan | 10:32 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
It is what it is! Logan was a better prepared team then the Dawgs. I still believe Judge is a better team with better athletes. It just did'nt show on Friday. Hats off to the Logan coaching staff, the real winners of the game. Region 10 is still the toughest region and will be for years to come. Logan has won their last trophy for awhile. Relish while you can. Logan will be this years Bear River next year.
to Dawg Fan | 11:29 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
Dont auction off next years game ball yet.LHS team strength in athletes is just coming to the surface.
to enrollment issues | 11:46 p.m. Nov. 17, 2007
You talk about Logan being the one of the smallest 4A schools, but what are the 4A numbers?? 1200 - 1500 or something like that? That doesn't even compare with 3A that is 450 - 1200. That is a joke and so unfair. It might change if the "big" schools along the Wasatch front would quit complaining about having to travel more that 20 minutes to a game!! I guess if you feel good about beating teams that you are 3 times bigger than good for you.
