All Las Vegas is doing is letting the free market govern water policy. Las Vegas
is willing to pay more for the water. Using conservatives values to measure this
Vegas is right. A casino brings in more money in a weekend than ranchers in
Snake Valley bring in in years.
We've known this forever. It's not news. Las Vegas takes water from a desert to
water a desert and we have draught. I'd like to see this practice ended.
The frustrating part of the draught is the inability to cut back on water usage
here in Vegas. City officials require vegatation around any building they sign
off on. Yes, it may be low water shrubs or trees, but they will consume 40-50
gallons of water per week in the hot summer. Grass is the worst offender, and
one can see it along roads and walkways that aren't even used. The waste of
water down here is unbelievable. We could solve this crisis tomorrow if we
would limit grass to the front or back yard only. Better yet, NO GRASS! It's a
desert! Go to Seattle if you want to see trees and grass, and southern Utah
should be thinking along the same lines as well.
