You'll need alot of it this week.
Who the Heck.... | 5:28 a.m. Nov. 13, 2007
is Jared Anderson? Alta has no such name on its roster...Just a Jordan Anderson!
Anonymous | 7:30 a.m. Nov. 13, 2007
You can't say they're not confident!!

Good luck to both teams on friday.

The linebacker you have been referring to as Jared Anderson is Jordan Anderson. Please make the correction public in your newspaper.

The name is Jordan Anderson, not Jared Anderson! come on newspaper reporters, get it right, read the roster

Its official....Parry's Power Guide has:

Alta by 10 over Layton!

Its all but over but the shouting!!
Alta's Big 3 and others | 11:12 a.m. Nov. 13, 2007
You might have the Big Three in the middle, but Alta is deep on Defense. Brantly Dunn is leading the state in INTs. Alta is extremely fast on defense. Kaden Carli and Mitch Alm can hit and run you down any day of the week. You have two of the fastest and best defensive ends in the state with Derek Keller and Brady Davies. Timpanogos QB was praying those guys would quit coming at him when they played Alta. Bingham couldnt move the ball on Altas defense. Offense is good, but Altas defense is the best in the state. Layton looks good too. Should be a great game.
11 Players on D., 90+ on team | 12:21 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Bingham had players that were faster, All-American players, out weighted Alta across the front line and Alta still handled them. Bingham couldnt run the ball against Altas inside players and they couldnt make the plays deep when they needed it. Offense wins games, Defense wins State CHAMPIONSHIPS. Go ALTA
chill out - | 12:44 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
RELAX people, it was just an error by the reporter.

I'm sure everyone now knows its JORDAN Anderson.
All State Defensive Team | 1:19 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
This could be the first time in history of Utah football that the whole All State defense will all come from one team.

Go Hawks!
Careful | 1:25 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Careful what you say about defense wins State. I hope this isn't the case since Layton has the #1 D in state. Good luck HAWKS.
Anonymous | 1:55 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Alta is so good!! Let me count how many state championships they have in the last 15 years.. that's right - ZERO
Just to be Clear | 1:59 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Alta's defense is not first in the state. According to the stats on this site, Alta's defense allows an average of 14 points per game, Layton's defense only allows an average 9.54 per game - updated through 13 games. That would mean that Layton's defense is the best in the state. So, if defense wins State CHAMPIONSHIPS......
Name fixed | 2:54 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Sorry for the mix up. The linebacker mentioned as Jared Anderson was in fact Jordan Anderson and the story has now been fixed to say Jordan.
Jr. High Teams | 3:02 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Layton hasn't played anyone. 9.54 per game against whom? Jr. High Teams? Alta's 1st Defense hasn't been scored on that much, they had their sophomores playing against Jordan and other when they scored. Alta should have given up 14 points playing sophomores against 1st string varsity players. Alta was building their program for the next few years. Who cares that they gave up 14, they played the best teams. How many points has Layton put on the board compared to Altas? Alta scores an average of 42 points to Laytons 30. Layton has never scored enough to put their other players in the game.
Alta Alum | 3:09 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Anonymous...I'll tell you what Alta has accomplished over the years

State Champions: 1983 & 1988

Region champions: 1984, 1985, 1988, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006

And what has Layton won since 1978??????????????

That's what I thought!

Jr. High | 3:09 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Good point - It is true, I saw a few of their games this year. I think Alta will win by 10 points - defense, leaves it Alta by 6
Alta Alum | 3:15 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Just to be Clear...Layton also hasn't played against the "TOP" ranked offense for the entire year either. They will have to stop that offense first, in order to come out victorius. Bingham's defense STAT wise was the second best team behind Layton going into Friday's semi final against Alta. they were only giving up 12 pts per game. Alta put 21 on them and did it early. Bingham was averaging over 40 per game and they were luck to put up the 17 that they got. Don't be to overconfident before the game even takes place. Just know that Alta is for real and they will prove it on the field!
Love it! | 3:25 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Quit hiding behind that 9.54 pts per game average. It isn't fooling anyone. Not to say that Layton does not have a great D because they do, all I am saying is I want Layton to play Bingham twice and then play 2 very strong california teams and come back and show us their ppg average. I guarantee it would look different. You may have shut out skyline, who cares! Alta had that game won by the half too. The other two opponents that they have in common, Alta held to fewer pts, Jordan and Timpanogas. You may love your defensive #'s but if you put both teams on paper Alta wins no contest (they actually do have both teams down on paper, parry's power guide and Alta is favored by 10). You may want to rethink your # logic. Good luck to both teams. I am looking forward to a hard faught game.
fatha goat | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
look who layton has played... Alta has played much harder teams 3 of them have been nationally ranked and they have won all of them. Whenever they get scored on it is either a great team or the jv is in.
Re Just to clear | 3:48 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Ahh...give it a rest.....pts allowed per game is just a stat! But the fact is looking at the players on ALTA and who they have played and how they have played them including Jordan....they have beat them with Defense!! You will find out soon enough with your four backs that you can only play two at a time...see you on Friday...and bring your best game...no excuses, because Layton is going to have to give 200% just to be in the game let alone win......because ALTA's Defense is the best in the STATE...even better than Layton who is not as good as Bingham!

Final State Rankings will Be:

1....ALTA
2....Bingham
3....Layton
4....Timpanogos
5....Am. Fork
Mr. AF | 4:15 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Let's see...American Fork Beat Timpanogos 62-46 and Alta beat Timp 35-28 (A bit of a struggle). BUT, Layton beat American Fork 28-14.

Hmmmmm....that would mean Layton OVER Alta!
WOW | 5:07 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Mr. AF....You're good! But how soon you forget that AF was minus 4 starters, 3 of which were defensive starters! It's real tough to beat op on a team when they're down! Those 3 defensive starters would have probably made a difference in just how many points Layton scored in that game.
No luv 4 Hawks | 5:06 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Alta is the best team in the state! They deserve to be the champions; they will win on Friday!
PROUD DAD!! | 5:15 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Isn't it great to read all of these terrific stories put out by the DNEWS Staff on ALTA HAWKS? And great stories at that too...It has been an incredible season and "FOOTBALL FRIDAY" has produced many a special moment as we have watched our team grow from that first loss to Bingham, and then excelling against Clovis who flatout would beat every team in the State, with the exception of Bingham, Grant who was the most explosive team I have ever watched but couldn't do it for 4 qtrs against us, but look out if they could?
But, that Bingham Game was unbelievable and will forever be the highlight of this year, for many of us!! And now as we get ready to take on the Lancers in the championship game.....this is the last time that our Seniors will ever wear a HAWK uniform again...it seems like just yesterday that they putting them on for the first time in Gremies 10 years ago! We love you 2007 Hawks, you have waited for this moment all your lives.....NOW GO WIN THAT CHAMPIONSHIP AND.... ALWAYS, ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT...
YOU ARE, YOU ARE, YOU ARE HAWKS
YOU ARE, YOU ARE, YOU ARE HAWKS...FOREVER!
Mr. AF | 5:37 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Hey "Fatha Goat", Who did Alta beat that was nationally ranked? The toughest team that any Utah team played this year was Mater Dei High in Cali, and that was American Fork who played them to a respectable 50-32 loss. Mater Dei scored the last 7 in the last few seconds on a long lucky pass play. Then they went for two. Otherwise it would have been 42-32.

AND, "Re just to clear", Give me a break! Timpanogos ranked higher than American Fork? AF beat them to a pulp! Are you thinking because they gave Alta all they could handle that they are better than AF? You have NO idea of what you are talking about!
Why play the game ????? | 6:33 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Ok, According to you Alta fans, their is no reason to even play the game right? You are so much better than the Layton Team. Layton is a bunch JV player compared to Alta right? I have got some earth shattering news........ LAYTON HAS NEVER EVEN PLAYED ALTA YET!!! YOU CAN SIT AND COMPARE STATS AND PLAYERS ALL YOU WANT.....THE GAME IS DECIDED ON THE FIELD. The team that shows up, hits the hardest, makes the least amount of mistakes, eliminates the turnovers etc will probably win the game!!! Good Luck to both teams and at the end of the game may their be good sporstmanship between player and fans. GO LANCERS!!!!
ALTA, ALTA, ALTA | 6:38 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
LANCERS LANCES BIRDS!!!!
B | 8:09 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Hey Mr. AF... You sure do talk a lot, but i can't remember, aren't you out of the playoffs? That's what i thought! And Good job on beating Timpanogas, they were real tough. The ending score doesn't say it all, because if you were at the alta game when they beat Timpanogas, they were up 28-3 at half time. There is only so much pain you can put on a team before you feel bad and put in your back ups, and that's what Alta did! So you keep talking big guy, because we are in the Championship, and you will be at home watching us on TV! Great Season American Fork!
Hunter | 9:25 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
AF if you could fight to win as hard during the game, as you do after the game is over...you would have beaten Layton! But Alta and Bingham are in a different league than LancelotLink and the boys! Parry has it right ALTA by 50!!
Alta by 60 | 9:43 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Alta by 60, Alta by 60, Alta by 60, down goes Layton, down goes Layton, down goes Layton, we are the Hawks, we are the Hawks, WE ARE THE HAWKS
layton | 10:12 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
as a player from alta, sorry for all the talk layton. just know that none of it comes from our players. good luck friday
Anonymous | 10:13 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
court did not have 15 tackles. 7 tackles 5 assists. no forced fumble. dont know about the sack.
Mr. AF | 11:02 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007
Hey Mr. "B", Nice try! You mean to tell me that Alta is so charitable that they just decided to let Timpanogos back in the game? Yeah....Right! NO team is going to put in their subs and allow another team to come back and run the risk of not making it to the next level! Alta will have their hands full with Layton!

What's more, I personally will be in the stands on the Layton side cheering against Alta because I know Alta is going down! Yeah...just keep talking yourselves into the idea that as "Fatha Goat" said earlier today, "Alta played 3 nationally ranked teams". What a laugh!! Name those nationally ranked teams...if you can!

In at least one national ranking on the web you will see the #4 national ranking of Mater Dei out of Cali that American Fork played. Alta is NO better than AF some coaches said at the summer Snow Camp, and Layton beat AF!
Layton Fans | 6:16 a.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Alta fans know they are going to win, Alta players know they have a game. I think the words heard from the Layton fans walking into the game last week helped heat the Alta fans up. Fan to fan, Layton fans were talking a good talk before the game started against AF. "see you next week" "we want to play Alta over Bingham" etc...Alta players don't think they have a push over game. They know they need to leave nothing on the field. It should be a great game.
B | 2:23 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Summer Camp? Who cares what they said at the summer camp! And i don't know about three nationally ranked teams, but alta did play one from california, which they beat, and then they beat Bingham who was ranked nationally! So there is two for you! And okay sure, you played one too, but didn't you lose? Yeah you did! Once again i'm just gonna say have fun in the stands, while we are playing! You had a great season, which unfortunately is over! So you keep talking a big game, and we'll keep walkin a big game!
X 's and O's | 3:15 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Alta Fan, these papers have given you your confedence. I love the energy! you guys are up to play a very different team than you've played before in Layton. Its not Bingham that you've had three failed warm-up games to get ready for, a Bingham that sneaks there name into every Alta artical posted like a angry monkey on your back. ask and guess how much film the Alta coaching staff has watched on Bingham. and now ask the same on there knowlege on Layton. meanwhile Layton has been laying patiently watching both Alta and Bingham waiting for this moment, knowing that this title would have to go through one if not both Alta and Bigham. Look at the match-up sheet the two teams are sized comparably, Alta has a wicked pass rush Layton has a very mobile Quarteback, screen pass, and quickslant barages, that eat, non patient, defences up. Laytons defence needs watch #22 and put three hats on him letting the rest of your team beat them. then on third when Rosenvall has to pass, under Laytons own steller pass rush, let it be in the back of his mind that hes passing to Lancer recievers also!
face the facts | 3:31 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
the best defense in high school football has already won a state championship in the 2A finals
Go Braves!!!!
Love it! | 3:56 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Good Stuff X's and O's. It is clear to everyone that you know your stuff. Just a few comments.
1) Alta coaches study film religiously, just like every top-tier coaching staff. I promise that they will have watched just as much on Layton as Layton has on them. You are right however, that Alta is familiar with Bingham and not Layton but the same can be said for the Lancers. That makes it a wash.
2) You stated that Alta has a relentless pass rush which is true, but more importantly, their D-Ends are lightning. #92 runs a 4-5, this should help a little in maintaining a mobile QB. If he is just going to throw quick-slants and pops then his mobility is useless.
3) Dont make the mistake of keying too much on Shak. He is amazing but remember, Alta still had the #1 offense in 5A with him on the bench half of the season.

I expect a great game. I think both teams are great and very deserving of the positions in which they find themselves.
Anon-Court | 4:46 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Your post made me go back and watch the Bingham Game on Comcast. Your right, Court did have alot of tackles, but not 15 unassisted!

Here is my breakdown: 6 unassisted, 7 assisted with 1 tackle for loss! No caused fumbles.

The fumble Court I think got credit for, was the one Jordan Anderson-#31 caused on Langhi? The other fumbles were just a bad snap and a dead ball fumble after the play was already whistled dead!
B | 5:47 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
44. Alta Sandy, Utah 12-1
Sausan Shakerin had three TD runs as Alta upset Fab 50 No. 48 Bingham 21-17 to advance to the state title game.

That's right, pulled straight from rivals.com! Alta nationally ranked like they should be!
hint | 6:45 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
your right alta coaches will study tons of film and change the defense to advantage the offense its playing. i have been watching alta all year and thats why its hard for offense coachs to watch film of there defense because it changes every week. go bengals!
Mr. AF | 8:40 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
B, B, B,...the California team Alta played was not EVEN ranked. They just happened to be a team from California. As for Bingham, I know they are a fine program--as Alta is, but I didn't see them in the rankings on the web last night. As for American Fork's loss to Mater Dei...Alta, Bingham and Layton would have lost to them as well! But at least we played them close!

Alta is NO better than Layton, Bingham or American Fork. These four teams are pretty much equal. On a good day, each one could beat the other. That's when it comes down to mistakes, injuries, etc., as to who the victor is.

We're not crying because we are out of the finals, we had a good run and we're happy with that. You won't get AF fans upset by telling us "na, na, na, na, na...we're in the finals and you aren't".

You just need to have more respect for other teams!

Layton will give Alta all they can handle! See you there on Friday!

Mrs. AF | 9:12 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
I feel like there are too many AF fans in hear living thier dream, and i'm sick of hearing about how great AF is cuz they played a california team close. go polish what ever trophy you think you have earned by loosing to a nationally ranked team by seventeen... And what ever happened to that Cali team anyway?.. oh yeah they're in basketball tryouts too... Maybe you can get them on your girls tennis schedual and talk about that cuz you will have the same group of readers that care to listen.
hawks all the way | 9:42 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
I want to expload! give me some advice on how to cope till kick off on friday I'm nervous as i can get, not knowing what team Layton will bring, me not knowing much about them. and hoping that our hawks don't show up like they did vs Bingham all i can do is read, and this Lancer team, other than blowing one first and goal from the five against Jordan, is perfect on there season they are big and quick and it seams every player on there team is writing there own football clinique. some of our Alta fans or making me sick overlooking these guys. I like our chances but don't think that we are playing Kearns again, or even Bingham for that matter. we have a real fight stay poised hawks and take it all four quarters!
re:face the facts 3:31 | 9:54 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
did you sneeze and accedentely type that your little 2A trophy says anything other than 'good job with what you have, but still three quarters of the states' schools could take you to the tool shed at will' turn your TV on this friday and see how football is played. please never waist our time again...
blue | 10:12 p.m. Nov. 14, 2007
Fast D ends colapse pockets and halt pass gains. patient and fast D ends shut down run games. which are you bringing? you need both... Layton has more rushing yards than Bingham. and its there ability to pass on any play that keeps linebackers cleets still in the ground when they do run the ball. its not going to be as easy as in your last game against Bingham where you can keep nine players in the box the whole game.

AND down at snow college for summer camp alta destroyed you.... Next realize what you're saying before you post
