Confused

So...they expect him to not take any advice that may clash with his first instincts?

Jerry

The Lord got him this far. He needs to start puting more faith into Him, rather than those 'Washington insiders'.

Reader

Romney's LDS faith is getting so tiresome to read and hear about. Either ask all the other candidates about their religion and how it may or may not play into their campaigns and views or drop the issue entirely. I am LDS, but I will not vote for a presidential candidate based on his or her religion, regardless of what it is. My vote will be based on how they will address the issues facing the country.

Everybody please read "When Salt Lake City Calls" by Rocky Hulse and printed by Xulon Press. It will open your eyes why Mitt Romney should NOT be elected as the next President of the USA!!!

John Kennedy's speech to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on September 12, 1960 covers the issue nicely. What more is needed?

Good Advice.

Whats wrong with him having advisors??? When he needs advise he simply asks Mr Flip or Mr Flop which way he should go!!

JRM

Mitt should evaluate the advice he is receiving. It seems he keeps getting advice to maintain a low key approach to his campaign in order to avoid alienating anyone. The professionals may be correct, but it seems to me we need a leader as president. A leader that can demonstrate an ability to protect our country and its boarders, a leader that can demonstrate how to strengthen our economy, and a leader that will demonstrate an ability to foster stronger families. So far he merely makes some non-controversial comments and tries to present his family as an ideal model to emulate. Mitt should make clear and concise positions regarding terrorism, immigration and the boarder, and relevant social issues. Further he should act as though he understands the issues important to American families not appear as though he is above them. In short, Mitt, check those advisers to make sure they are giving you good advice. You can do it --- don't be afraid to take a stand --- that's leadership!

Conejo

How can a President foster stronger families? That may be a nice sound bite for the evening news but whatever he says or doesn't say has little impact on how strong my family is.

dmo

Remember all relationships with God are personal and sacred, leave the man alone.

Mitt should take some of the wealth he is squandering on his election and buy IHOP. No one is better at waffling than Mitt.

mitt Romney has had plenty of leadership rolls in his business and personal life, every good president surrounds himself with those who he knows will give good advise..then you weigh out all that has been said, and the president makes his decision, that is where the buck stops, and he knows that, regardless of what anyone will say, mitt Romney has the best background to lead this country forward in the ways that will change the united states for the good,so yes i speak in support of the man,i happen to believe his religious background has helped him for the good,we all wont ever agree, but the morals are the same, and he stands for the good ones, and his family is proof of that,a good strong , and loving family, not perfect, but i believe trying to live as a good American with good moral values..health care and social security and all the other things are important, but without strong families and standing for true morals, none of the other things wont matter much, that's my opinion and I'm stickin to it.

Seattle

I also believe Romney needs to be more specific on what he stands for. I dont think the religion speach is needed yet but I do want him to say "this is who I am" and spell out the ways he is different from Evengelicals. Right now, he looks like he will do anything that they tell him. Look how far Mayor Gulliania (Sp) has gone by simply saying "we have differences but I will appoint strict constructionist judges" so abortion is not a concern.
How would he handle the Terry Shievo (sp) case?
Describe his health care plans.

The most important to me is he better not be a Bush apologist if he becomes president. He should be able to say specically how he would be better than Bush. He should say that the Bush admininstraction has been incompetent and that his will not be. If he tries to continually justify Bush to keep the Evengelicals happy, he should forget it.

Show some independence. Differences are fine. Openly pandering to them makes him look so very weak.

Sue

I agree with dmo.His relation with God should be personal & sacred.Leave him alone about his religion.Enough is enough. Some people of the U.S.doesn't have any idea how lucky we would be to have such a good man leading this country.

In Massachusetts, or Nebraska, or Texas or any number of other states and places, Mitt's religion is little more than a curiousity. When you're a normal (non mormon) in utah, however, it's worrisome, and I'm glad people beyond the curtain are asking questions. Here, we demonstrate daily that mormonism comes to the table at the legislature, in so many ways. Whether it's underfunded education, our weird and stupid liquor laws, teen pregnancy, antidepressants, or less known eccentricities like MLM's, trepanning, or polygamy (they're here for a reason) mormonism makes Utah different; seldom in a good way. The Mitt needs to tell us in plain language that what happens in utah stays in utah, and it may not be proper there, either.

One wonders why the religion of other candidates, including Clinton, is never under discussion.

Even Mike Huckabee's, who is a former Baptist Pastor.

KAY

WHAT IS A MORMON YOU ASK. IF THEY ARE LIVING THEIR RELIGION, THEY ARE HONEST, MORAL, HARD WORKING, CARING, SPIRITUAL, NOT AFRAID TO "STAND FOR SOMETHING" WORTH STANDING FOR, PEOPLE. THEY ARE DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF THE FAMILY, THE NATION, AND ALL MANKIND, BECAUSE THEY BELEIVE WE ARE ALL SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD. IF YOU ARE CONDEMNING MORMONS, WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THEIR RELIGION IS ALL ABOUT, FIND OUT, AND QUIT MOCKING SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. IF YOU DARE.

I Like Mitt!

This Moderate from Oregon likes Mitt. I am pro-choice but usually vote Republican. I really don't follow the religious leanings of any of the candidates - why should they cast their pearls before swine? Anyone's faith is a personal matter that often cannot adequately be explained, and certainly should not be ridiculed.

Each of us has a basis from which our character and the values we embrace come from whether it be from family, school, religion, or society in general which aids us in our decisions. Then again is it really from just one place or isn't it more through a combination of these things? Also, how come when someone is successful so many people then start to tear that person down? and What is wrong with asking questions or advice from other people? Just because someone asks questions or advice doesn't mean that person is surrendering their ability to decide. That person is just gaining more info to base their decision on.

Agree with Seattle

I've said from the beginning Mitt should just be open about his differences with different groups and people will respect him for that. But all he has done is tried to cover over his past differences and promise that he is now the same. He is not and he will never be and he shouldn't be. Mitt as he is is much better than the other candidates so he shouldn't worry about impressing people with his similar views on Christ. Just be honest and forthcoming and he will have a better chance.

Interesting article. Unfortunately it reveals a great deal more about the mindset of the article's author than it does about Mr. Romney
