Salt Lake County attorney at odds with neighbors

Attorney believe they are above the law. I found out that when I was in an accident with the DA, okay the card she gave to the cop was asistant DA.
This is ridiculous | 12:40 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
if the neighbor saw underage drinkers coming out of the home or is continually disturbed by slamming doors and loud noises, why didn't he call the police? The article says "the department had only two case reports involving the Millers, one involving stolen campaign signs and other involving graffiti on their property. Hansen said the police would be aware if loud parties and underage drinking were going on at the Millers."

Also, if her husband provides free daycare for his employees why is that a bad thing?

Sounds like a petty, nosy neighbor without teenagers and nothing better to do than become the neighborhood hall monitor. Typical HOA mentality. I live in a neighborhood with one and I hate it. They are nuts!
Assistant DA??? | 1:03 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
So not the same person? Doesn't sound like the DA was above the law. The article says the police and the state both looked into it and she was not violating the law. I vote for the nosy neighbor. What was the name of that neighbor from Bewitched???

It's amazing that if someone wants to harm someone, they just have to complain enough -- even if the allegations are unfounded -- to get a story.
I wish my boss would have been so generous with daycare when my kids were in daycare. What a wonderful benefit.
Assistant DA? | 1:09 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
So a different person and not the actual DA? My vote is for an obnoxious HOA nut with nothing better to do. What was the name of the neighbor from Bewitched? Sounds like her.
Neighborly love | 1:17 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Sounds to me that a neighbor who had a complaint, called the press instead of talking to his/her neighbor. If someone had a legitimate complaint, they would not only sign their name, but make the complaint to law enforcement. I wish my boss, when my kids were in daycare would have provided such a great benefit. Daycare was the nightmare of my life at that time.

I can't stand HOAs. I have lived in two in the past and will never do it again. They always turn out to have two or three who feel like the secret police and make life miserable for the others with their "interpretaton" of the rules which turn out to be what fits them best and not the rest. In one HOA a neighbor came out after dark and found someone visiting my home had their car 6 inches over a line they interpreted to be in violation and reported this to the HOA. This sounds like more of the same kind of neighbors who are bored who have nothing better to do than watch through their blinds. If the authorities and agencies responsible for monitoring have no concerns I am not sure why the story even seemed to have any merit in the first place.
meri | 5:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Some of these postings sound very suspiciously like each other, with only a couple of words changed. Could it be that people are posting their thoughts twice but changing the wording slightly so that it will sound like ther people agree with them?
neighbors | 6:13 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
HOAs are a bad idea. I built a house in a subdivision with one, and I will never make that mistake again. The idea is good, but the practice can be a nightmare. When things go wrong the HOA doesn't come to your aid and find out how they can help which would be neighborly. They beat you down and make it even harder. Or in the case of this story you have a neighbor how dares to do things a little different than the rest of the neighborhood. Then the HOA board members wonder why you don't applaud their efforts to make the neighborhood a better place to live.
Jim III | 6:46 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
The name of the nosy neighbor on Bewitched was Gladis.
She was the neighborhood busy body.I have a couple of those in the neighborhood that I live in now. No HOA as of yet. Video cameras are relatively cheap now a days, why doesn't one of the complainers get one a video tape all the alleged wrongdoing. Like some others have said before, somebody has too much time on their hands and are just looking for an excuse to annoy, pester, harass and other wise cause trouble. If the state authorities were to look into the neighbors lives they probably would find that one of their relatives had been supposedly charged with some sort of crime and the neighbors are trying to get back at a law enforcement official.

I noticed that the guy is a democrat.
Rob Miller | 7:32 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
The biggest problem with the anonymous letter that was sent out (I was one of the Democrats who received it) was that it was anonymous.

I tend to disregard anything like this that is sent out anonymously. Especially when it involves elected officials or politics.

M.Neilsen | 7:44 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Free day care for employees? I don't believe it.
The Spyglass | 7:45 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
On the Internet and using email nothing is anonymous. If the entire email was saved, it would be little trouble to identify how it was created and by whom. The AG's office has some experience in this area and hopefully they will be able to track this back to the original person or people or political organization responsible. I would be happy to offer my services to identify where it came from and expose the idenity
Jay | 7:50 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Is this Steve Trayner the lawyer and Gary Zielinski the NBA ref? Since we know something about Miller, I wish they had told us more about these neighbors.
Gladys Cravits | 8:00 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
It appears in this case that you have some "Clampett" type behavior going on in the Miller household. This behavior can be overlooked by neighbors when the alleged supervising adults make an honest effort to show some consideration to others in the area. I think we all have lived next to teenagers at some point and it is safe to say that teenagers tend to be loud, obnoxious, and generally inconsiderate. However, the parents of teenagers, need to be particularly sensitive to ensure that the activities of their children do not make life unbearable for the neighbors. It appears the Millers do not possess that level of sensitivity. All this mess could have gone away if the Millers had taken plates of cookies to their neighbors and stated: "We are sorry for all the recent noise and excess vehicles at our house, we have instructed our kids, and their friends, to be more considerate in the future." I guess Ms. Miller would just rather use the legal system to beat their neighbors into submission.
Secret | 8:53 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Hey Spyglass, how will you trace a gmail account created and accessed from a computer not owned by the person sending the message? Beyond that are the anonymous remailers etc. etc.

If the police in this case operate the same as the police in Springville then most calls don't get recorded/reported. I used to live at the end of the street where there was constant underage drinking, drug use, vandalism, and illegal discharging of fire arms. Just my calls alone would have been more than doubled the official numbers that the police reported for that entire section of the city. The vandalism was its own evidence and in many many cases the police did actually talk to the criminals for themselves. In all the years I lived there I only saw one arrest! That is probably why there are "records" of only two calls to/visits by the police.
Cabrzama | 9:06 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Weren't the Clampetts the Beverly Hillbillies? The bewitched neighbor was Gladys Kravitz. And, while the Stephens were a very nice family, the mom was a witch and the dad, as it turns out, was gay. So maybe her over-curiosity wasn't all that unfounded. Today, we have reality shows--maybe Miller's neighbors should watch more TV.
John | 9:14 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
You can remain anonymous on the internet. Rather simple problem for so much attention. Regular neighbor problems seem to go un-noticed in most cases... unless you have a different political party affiliation...slow news day to to allow so much coverage, then again the tribune likes to go after the repiblicans.
Really | 9:28 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Is this really news? Is there really nothing better to report?

If not, I can't wait till the expose about the guy behind my house that has a beat up old shed that he insists on repairing on sunday evenings, just when i am trying to enjoy some relaxation time. I just hate looking at that thing.

Oh wait, I would have to write an anonymous letter before a news organization would take it seriously.

It just goes to show, If you want to stay up-to-date on the latest impacting local and national news, the DNews is the only way to go...so ridiculous.
Billie Clyde Beaudean | 9:31 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Sounds to me like Ms Miller's neighbors want to create bad publicity for her. Sending stuff to the media but not calling the police? What a crock! Good for Lohra telling the AG to "bring it on". She would know best if she had broken the law or not. The daycare sounds like a wonderful idea and clearly the Millers have not overstepped their bounds on that one. Sounds like whiny neighbors who are out to discredit her. Anonymous e-mails? It's gutless on a neighborhood issue. I can see it on a work related issue because their could be retaliation, but a neighborhood squabble? Get real.
Dragnet | 9:35 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
If the intent is to bring ridicule to the DA's office, the anonymous e-mailer would have done better to point out the alcohol consumption of at least one of the DA investigators on and off duty or the past record of one of the assistant DA's with regard to ignoring hunting licensing regulations. Drunks and criminals helping with prosecutions. That's a real problem.
Chenille Hutto | 9:47 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
I have worked for Both Lohra and her husband Lorenzo Miller for almost four years. They have been a blessing to my family. I am a single mother, a college student and a full time employee. They do provide FREE childcare, a flexible schedule, and have bent over backwards to accommodate myself and the other employees. I feel I would not have been able to accomplish as much as I have if it weren't for them. The Millers are anything but inconsiderate.
Disgruntled Employee | 10:58 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
So I decided to look at the news today to get up to date on what is happening in our community. I was very disappointed to say the least. At what point did we stop writing our stories based on facts, and more on gossip? In this case against Lohra Miller I see a lot of allegations, but little to no proof. From everything I have read in this article Lohra and Lorenzo are two great people. We need more people in our community like them.
paranoid? | 11:44 a.m. Nov. 5, 2007
After reading the article I didn't even think this was news, but I decided to read the comments (since there were so many on such a non-issue).

I was amased that (meri 5:35) even went to the trouble of analysing the speach or writing paterns of each comment and got suspicious that they were all the same individual just disguising their postings to sound like more than one person and posting them over and over.

Sounds a little paranoid to me. But then again, maybe it is another one of those right-wing conspiracies we hear so much about.
Wally1121 | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
So now I understand why Robert Preece was released. Lorah Miller was too busy partying to file charges in a timely manner.

Maybe SHE should serve his time for him?
Philo | 12:23 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Who wants to deal with problems with a neighbor. why would you make up problems with party's and fighting? daycare, as long as its within the law, why not. I have experienced that same problem in my neighborhood with parties and loud noise. It's not fun and it's frustrating. Im with the neighbors though. Why stir the pot unless it needs stiring. sounds like it was ready to boil.
Mark B | 12:36 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
I am not as concerned about the unlicensed daycare as the youth parties. I suspect that they have been documented... otherwise this never would have made it to the AG's office.
Kirpiggy | 12:42 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Day care is extremely expensive. I certainly wish my employers over the years offered free, or even reduced price day care. I agree with others who've stated that if these alleged problems were real, the neighbors would have called the police instead of the press. Sounds like they just want to provide the Millers with some bad publicity.
GOPCultureOfImpunity | 12:48 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Of course, Lohra Miller welcomes an investigation. She knows that nothing will come of it because the Attorney General's Office and the police officers who supported her campaign have an unwritten agreement to "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" when allegations are brought against the other.
Hello??? | 12:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Did you not read the article? The police have not been called to any parties and Lohra is the one who referred it to the AG's office to investigate.
Jimbo | 12:59 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
I have been a long time family friend of the Millers (from Collage) ...and I have seen first hand the "Parties" that the miller kids have had... I have never seen any underage drinking, and I have never seen any Drug use... I have seen a house full of kids, and while that can be a bit rambunctious, I have always thought it a good thing. I find my house the same way most Fridays. I have always thought it better to have a house full of loud teenagers, than not knowing where or what they are doing. Sure as a parent, we can always do a better job, and we should do our best to work with our neighbors.

I have also seen first hand the interaction with the neighbor... any noise, any cars, any kids walking around out fount will cause him to look out to see what "crazy drug enhanced, alcoholic rave party" is going on...

I have been head of a home owners association, and I have seen first hand how neighbors can get to the point where there really is no resolution, and a plate of cookies will not fix it.. Good luck Lohra.
I hate HOA | 1:12 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Drunk teens and day care? At the same time? I bet they also put up a Direct TV Dish without permission. Whoa.
Mike R. | 2:22 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
The complainers would most likely complain about anyone, anywhere they lived, no matter what. Neighbors like that should just worry about what goes on in their own homes. Typical Democrats.
Klimber510 | 3:33 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
I wonder if there is a difference between "the claims are unfounded" and "the claims are false?" My response would be, "it's not true...the accusations are patently false and fabricated... investigate away!" Unfounded sounds like "maybe partly true if you can prove it."
HOAs | 3:43 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
If you don't like them, then don't buy homes in neighborhoods that have them. It's that simple.
Anonymous | 3:48 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
This is silly.
Democrat | 3:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
I know Lohra Miller. She's a decent and hard-working person. She doesn't think she's above the law,and she would not use her status to gain an advantage or sweep things under the rug. She's a good mother who strives to live the family values the complainers I'm sure only profess. So, I'm not sure what the world needs, another Lohra Miller or another busy body who'll make life hell for whomever happens to be the new neighbor. You decide.
Good Old Republicans | 4:04 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Let first say I am Republican, second I should not read the blogs.
If I remember right there was a little break in reported at an office apartment complex that was nothing. The place was called watergate. I do not make rash statements in either direction until I have all of the facts. (I did not have sex with that women)
I from what I am reading am getting a lot of red flags, if not of illegal behavior, poor judgement.
Who works closly together (Police/DA)
nieghbors seperatly complaining about issues, comments that they have been threatened with Lawsuits. The illgality may not be anything more than a misdeameanor but a lot of poor judgement for a person in this position (unless she lives in Eaglemountain)
By the way the person who said the neighbor was a Demo did not read well enough, I probably will vote Demo depending on the canidates.
anonymous | 4:48 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
First of all, you can't trust a lawyer as far as you can throw them 19 out of 20 times. Secondly when you have politicians, it makes it 49 of 50 if they are lawyers, and if police are "involved", well you can't trust them either, they want to remain on her good side. I have learned you can not trust police anymore, they are not what they used to be! They will lie to protect their buddies and in other situations, lie to get a conviction, it doesn't matter if a person if guilty or innocent, what matters is if they get another notch in their belt for the conviction. I am sure kids that go to the Millers think they are above the "Law", but that doesn't necessarily make it Ms. Miller who is to blame does it? Where politics, lawyers and cops go, you can't trust them the majority of the time anymore, they are as bad or worse than everyone else. How sad is that for an opinion of lawyers, cops and polititians. Says a lot for where the country is headed doesn't it?

She is a nut and a half She is incompetent. She thought a lay person was a lawyer and showed up in court with corn rows once. She then went on air to let the criminals this past spring know the jail was full and the Co was overloaded with crime.... Dumb!!

Some inside info...The Press Contacted The Neighbors, not the other way around! The neighbors who have gone on record are not looking to make trouble for the Miller's, just the only ones brave enough to go on record. This has come from a growing frustration with unresolved issues with the Millers, which go beyond the parties and daycare. There has been vandalism, other HOA violations and neighbor anoyances. The neighbors have tried to resolve things privately through talking to the Millers and then through the HOA. These efforts have been unsucessful because of the Miller's unwillingness to accept accountabilty for their actions. Every attempt to resolve issues is met with a threat of a lawsuit. What neighbor or HOA wants to get involved in that? No proof of underaged drinking?-I don't think that Lohra and her husband are drinking and leaving all the alcohol bottles on the lawns. Neighbors are trying to be proactive in preventing an escalation of problems. As far as cops and cameras - great for court, but not very neighborly. Neighbors don't wany her family in the press, just some consideration and accountabilty. Don't accept the spin from Lohra. The claims are not unfounded, just undocumented!
courthousesnitch | 9:38 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
Maybe the media should do its job and research the Facts. Her neighbors the Zielinski's are registered Democrats. Is the media really fair and unbiased - or do they have an ax to grind against the DA. Makes you wonder.
anonymous | 10:29 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
life is how you choose to see it! who cares about party affiliation if the person is of good character! if theyre not get em out! and before you say anything more bad about her why dont you go have a chat with her yourself ! from the people who ACTUALLY know her she sounds good enough ..... we should fix our own problems before we worry about hers
l | 11:51 p.m. Nov. 5, 2007
How short are these underage drinking parties that by the time the cops arrive the party is over?

Spyglass, although many people are too dumb to cover their tracks when using the internet, it really doesn't take that much to hide who you are if you really want to.
Janey | 1:20 a.m. Nov. 6, 2007
The Constitution guarantees all of us life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It does not matter if you are a Democrat, Republican or Gladys Cravits.
When I come home from a full day I look forward to being able to get things done so I can go to bed with a good book and a cup of aromatic tea. When I get sleepy I want to snuggle into my soft pillows and drift off into a lovely dream. This is shattered when the neighbor's kids decide to have a party. They are loud and raucous. Their woofers beat through my head. Talking nicely to them doesn't help because the parents are too happy the kids are there instead of who knows where. This is a nice sentiment, but it sure is rude to me. I do not want to move because I was here first and have worked hard for my pretty little home. Ms Miller needs to teach her family how to treat others in a decent and respectful way. For the most part neighbors live in a synergistic and respectful relationship. I feel badly for her neighbors.
Cathy H | 8:52 a.m. Nov. 6, 2007
Well I believe is Safe to say that the young adults made a mistake and its unfortunate for everyone involved. I am imagining the movie(Risky Business)
I would stake a wager it wont happen again.
However this has become a circus and has invited some real unsavory individuals into the lives of all these people. This was wrong and extremely hurtful I now fear that a negative focus has been cast on innocent people and children. I completeley agree with Lohra that this is dispicable behavior to attack her family and children.
Cathy H | 10:52 a.m. Nov. 6, 2007
Correction it was not like the movie (Risky Business)
I read the updated Comments on ksl The boys were playing Halo, this whole incident is just a travesty.
The are some really creepy weirdo's posting bizarre comments they sound like heretics. I know this family I live nearby this is defamation at its worst. I am feeling very concerned.
