I hardly ever agree with my Mayor, but this time I very much do. This bond reminds me of so many bills that our lawmakers pass that just has too much fat in it. Way too many add ons that are just not needed. Think of so many that are on fixed incomes. Have we thought that we might fix what we have and add on space?

At least there is one politician with some concience and the guts to do and say the right thing. This bond is double what it cost to replace the city safety building. Talk about fraud and lies, the public has been fed a big one. They aren't complaining about losing the excess ($92 million dollare of it) bonding to put in pork barrell projects not even related to the new building issue. I hope the voters see through the curtain of deceit and vote this down. They can always have a special bond election for the $100 million real cost. I hope the Salt Lake voters are informed enough to see the fraud being applied here on this bond and its double the dollar price tag. The Mayor has every right to be against lies and fraudulent bonding practices the city is famous for. The REAL bond is a prime example of how fraudlent our government leaders have become. If the people want to stop fraud it has to start at the top.

I wonder if anyone really cares what Lame Duck Anderson has to say anymore. He seems to only comment on city issues when he in opposition to something, seldom in favor of something.

Rocky believes all who benefit should pay. I can see why those on the public dole may disagree.
some facts for Bob | 3:39 p.m. Nov. 4, 2007
Some Facts:

First, this project has been highly scrutenized by SLC for over 5 years.

Just for arguments sake let's say that 2 fire stations, a police precinct, fire training/fire office space are all 'pork'.

The $100M for 1 building is incorrect. The EOC is being built separate due to FEMA standards, if it were in the HQ building it would add over $27M to the project. The evidence storage is put in the parking structure for additional cost savings. So we have 3 'necessary' buildings. Now, we can't leave the 'pork' employees without a place to work so that needs to add to the size of the HQ. So wihtout your 'pork' we are still at over $150M.

The fire stations in question have been on the schedule for replacement for over 10 years.

Waiting only means higher costs; for example the Library bonded in 1998 for $84M today $198M. Talk is not cheap in these cases. May I suggest you contact the city for additional facts?

Maybe if Mayor Anderson was ever in town doing his job he could have provided his input long ago? Rocky, go chase windmills somewhere else! You are never a part of the solution.
Fix it? | 10:45 p.m. Nov. 4, 2007
There's an ingenious idea.....fix what we have and consider adding on. Oh wait.....I forgot...it's more appealing to just go buy new everytime something appears a little dilapidated.
Grab all those cops on radar duty and stick 'em on the roof and wherever else needs a little TLC.

Why is a portion of the population (home and business owners) paying for something that will benefit us all? And, as Rocky said, why don't the people who work in the area pay their part. Perhaps a businesss/city partnership could help fund it. Or a sales tax surcharge?
