I do not live within the boundaries of SLC. Also, I do not conduct much business there so this proposed tax increase will not affect me. I have a lot of experience in observing and working with public safety officials. I have noticed that there is not much business savvy, or sometimes common sense, demonstrated within the public safety ranks. The vast majority of senior management has "come up" through the ranks and do not have much experience in the "real world" outside of public safety. Most public safety officials believe the only way to solve problems is to throw a lot a money at them. This approach tends to be expensive and wasteful. If building these facilities is such a good idea, why are the elected officials sitting on the sideline? The Mayor and City Council, after careful consideration of the facts, should vote for a tax increase to fund the construction of required facilities and take the credit or blame for that decision. SLC residents are crazy if they vote themselves a tax increase and approve this bond. In essence they will be giving public safety the keys to the candy store.

Follow the money. What financial institution is underwriting the bond?
