I love to see Fess in rotation. He could be used initially like Hofa, jast to body up overpowring opponent. I know he may not have good understanding of the system yet but that body and agressiveness must be intimidating. I just love the way he crash the glass and move his feet. we may not see him against Nellie's team but he has to play against Yao or other big men. Let's Go FESS!!!

Jimmy's Sneakers

Hey everybody, Anonymous is Ted Danson!!!

Sorry anonymous, Jimmy doesn't see Fes in the rotation right now. Jimmy doesn't see many minutes for Collins either. Instead Jimmy thinks when Memo is out we will see more of Boozer at the 5 with AK or Millsap playing the 4. That will especially be the case against the growing number of small lineup teams, like Golden State tomorrow night.

Jimmy would prefer that Brewer get the backup minutes at the 3 with Matty out. Milsap like AK, plays better and will be more valuable by the hoop. With Brewer at the 3, Miles and Gira and Ronnie will fill in at the 2 until Almond steps up his game.

Just 1 more day until we start to find out!

Minute adjustments

Fesenko will play a grand total of 48 minutes. For the season. Harpring will play fewer minutes than last year, but not by much. Expect Milsap to claim all three of Harpring's minutes that he gives up.

We won't see much of Price at all. I'd rather see Milsap playing than Collins, and that's where I think that Paul should claim more of his minutes from than the out-of-position 3 position. How many 260 pound small forwards do you see playing out there?! Also, refs are going to crack down on flops this year, and Collins' only skill (flopping) will be exposed.

word

There's absolutely no reason to play collins in most games unless the jazz are playing somebody with a lot of good bigs. A lot of teams go small now days so they should just have 3 man rotation of Boozer, Okur, and Millsap. That way millsap gets more minutes and we don't have to watch collins try to take a charge in the circle against I guy that goes 5'8".

Kevin

I agree you have to get Milsap on the floor...give him Collin's minutes except against the few teams that have a guy that's too big and strong. He plays as big as Collins anyway. I don't understand what Miles has done to justify any minutes at all...I'd much rather see Almond get time.

CougarJazz

Collins shouldn't be playing in the NBA, and Fesenko is clearly better than him. The problem is that Sloan likes players who don't make glaring mistakes. Collins knows this- if he doesn't pass, he won't turn it over, if he doesn't shoot, he won't miss. Thus, he just runs back and forth, trying to be as invisible as possible, and Sloan thinks he's an efficient backup. That is also the reason the Jazz had Ostertag for years, except he was (gasp) better than Collins.

Get rid of Collins and play fess. The Jazz don't need him

nocollins

Collins' days became numbered when they picked up Fess. In time, we'll all be happy about that. Sloan won't take chances on losses just to get experience for players that need developing. Expect Fess to see some NBDL time this year just so he can get used to the NBA style of play.

If the team stays relatively healthy, the might not start out hot, but should finish the year hot. It's just a matter of everyone getting used to each other. That really counts a lot later in the season, especially in the playoffs.

Good insights

CougarJazz, in spite of your BYU affiliation (just some friendly rivalry trash talk), you make some great points. Collins really is a do-nothing. Of course the guy isn't going to make obvious mistakes if he is a cardboard stand-up.

Word, I agree with the three-man rotation of Okur, Boozer, and Milsap. Collins just doesn't do anything well, and teams are shying away from really big, dopey players and going for guys that may be shorter, but are more skilled, more explosive, and quicker.

Fess shouldn't be trusted just yet, unless it is developmental garbage time. Don't get me wrong, I liked what I saw in the preseason; his intensity is promising, but he is definately too raw to be trusted in the regular rotation. He would probably be starting for the Timberwolves, but he is definatley a raw talent-in-training.

One more opinion

I think Millsap will most likely get more minutes at the expense of Jarron Collins, with the Jazz opting to play Boozer and Millsap together.

Miles should play SF

Brad

Intelligent comments so far....Most teams play small ball now, so there is no reason to play Collins except in certain very, very rare sitautions. Millsap could play at the 5 spot. Especially if Boris Diaw and Al Harrington do for their teams! Plus even if the Jazz play a team with a big center, Like Yao Ming, Collins may be 6'11" but he plays like he's 5'11", and Millsap would do better on him anyways. I beleive last year that Dee Brown had more blocks than Collins!! Until Collins dunks the ball or blocks a shot in practice, he shouldn't get mintues!! Could someone look that up for us? How many blocks did Collins have last year?

Alstott

Collins had.........drum roll please........... 8 blocks last season.

Alstott

Oh, and Dee Brown only had 7 blocks.

Z

Good comments, I like what I'm hearing from everyone. Collins had a grand total of like eight blocks last season if I'm correct. I'd also like to see Millsap get more time at the four or five at the expense of Collins, and not so many minutes at the three spot. I would also like to see AK get some post up time or some clearout isolation situations at the top of the key where he can use his length and quickness. When they did that with him last year he usually got to the basket and finished or went to the line. I like what I see from Fess but I don't think he's quite ready just yet. There are not enough minutes to go around so I hope that Sloan will make the right decisions. I'm excited for the season. Go Jazz!

Mike

Millsap won't be seeing a lot, if any, minutes at the 5 this year. He will still get most of his minutes at the 4. Boozer will see increased minutes at the 5 with Millsap playing alongside him. Collins and Harpring are going to be the one's loosing out to Millsap's increased minutes, but he won't be logging them at the 5. Sloan played him a few times at the 3 last season, but he was a defensive liability because he wasn't quick enough to keep up with the other 3's in the league. Even though it didn't work out last season, Jazz brass still said they wanted to play Millsap at the 3. This season, Millsap is in better shape and quicker than he was last season, so he could put some productive minutes in at the 3 also, behind AK and Harpring. But most of his minutes will come playing at the 4 alogside Boozer at the 5.

By the way Brad...Collins had 8 blocks last year, Boozer had 26, Millsap had 83, and Dee Brown had 7.(Numbers include playoffs)

Jazzsmack

Harpring will hardly play at all with his bad kness and ankles. For all intents and purposes his career is over.

Sloan will continue his bad game time coaching and bad subsitution methodology.

Jazz will not be winning any champoiship any time soon. They had a lot of luck gettting as far as they did last year. And how they played against the Spurs was most telling.

All you have to do is look at teams that win champoinships and you wiil know how you need to construct your team. Guards, centers, small forwards, in that are order, are most important. Power forward, while their contibution in important, is the least important position, Rebounding and defense is all you need from that position. Remember duncan is really a center!

As soon as the Jazz stop doing things backwards, And put the team together right, the sooner the Jazz will win a champoinship.

RE: Alstott

I guarantee you if Dee was played as much as Collins he would have had more blocks.

Anyway, these comments are good. I believe we're all in favor of getting rid of Collins and playing Millsap more. Although, Millsap is foul-prone.

Fess is very raw and should spend the year on the Orem Flash. But he's going to be good. Hopefully AK-47 good without the whinning to be traded crap.

Re: Jazzsmack

Are you even a Jazz fan? Why do you continue to post deconstructive comments? Go to the Lakers' blog and post your comments there. We don't want to hear them.

Expect AK to have a better game that usual against the Warriors due to their up-tempo style of play. He loves to run, and Sloan will play him if he stays within the game plan. Could be a good opportunity for AK to get some confidence early.

Elaine

Elaine thinks Jimmy is funny.

Can't wait til tipoff tomorrow night!

We have Memo, Booz, AK and Paul that could all be starting at the 4 and be putting up allstar numbers for any team in the league. And they all play best at the 4. It's kind of a shame.
