Typical remarks from a rich person who does not understand the needs of people. His support of school vouchers is misplaced and is only welfare for the wealthy. The amount of said vouchers will not allow any low income parents to send their kids to a private school.Judging any student because of race is wrong and not respectful!! Think before you speak!!!
If Byrne, Walmart, and other pushers of voucher legislation had put their money into scholarship funds, they would have been able to help every child who wanted to go to private school and couldn't afford it. Instead they are asking for welfare for the rich.
Byrne meant exactly what he said. He's a CEO. He choses his words carefully.
He wants vouchers for the rich, not the poor. In his world view, all minorities would be thrown away. (He's also known for his anti-Semitic views.)
BTW: Why is a childless bachelor putting so much money into vouchers? It's ideological, not practical - or real for most Utahns.
Byrne is right on target. Many lower income families send their children to private schools because they believe that is in the best interest of the children. They are willing to make the sacrifice to do so. The fact that everone in the "education family" is opposed to vouchers is evidence of the economic illiteracy of the present monopolistic public education system. If we continue to do what we have always done, we will continue to get what we have always gotten, and that is not sufficient in this highly competitive age.
Read the article people. He was stating the fact that if you don't even graduate high school, your chances for success in this modern world are extremely low.
The anti-voucher folk are taking offense for a word and trying to make political hay out of it. Don't be so stupid to fall for it.
And whether Ms. Williams of the NAACP is offended or not, it doesn't change the fact that the school system (aka status quo) that she's trying to protect still fails over 40% of minorities!!
Dr. Byrne is right on target and is as colour blind as they come! He's obviously trying to create better opportunities for all.... and minorities will stand to benefit the most. Of course if they succeed, the "rights" groups will no longer be needed and their heads will be jobless with no "power base" or pulpit.

Your comments were insensitive and hurtful.
If you were misquoted, you should have apologized for your choice of words and this ordeal would have gone away. There is no sin in apologizing for hurting others. Instead you choose to offend the entire country and humiliate the state.
The pro-voucher movement must be proud to have you as a spokesperson. If you represent what the pro-voucher movement is all about, you have embarrassed the cause and I cannot support a movement that has you as their spokesman.
What are your shareholders going to think when they find out that you have offended 40% of potential customers? (Oh I know, it is only a perceived offense and the loss in revenue will only be perceived losses)
Say goodbye to shareholder value
The pro-voucher movement is trying to use the "public schools fail 40% of minorities" argument to try to pass the voucher program??? The voucher program is going to be used by rich white kids not low-income minorities. Low-income minority families will need a lot more money to send their kids to private school. The voucher program is so rich white kids' families can get welfare from the state. I read the ballot one time and knew it.
