The Democratic party's second effort on this legislation that came up short again with very little to show for its efforts is threatening to become more politically dangerous than practical. From what I've read, the Democratic party didn't put alot of effort in trying to really secure Republican votes other than to strong, manhandle (or for Polosi - womanhandle) them through coercion and threats. If the Democrats aren't careful their strategy will backfire and make Congress look as bad as President Bush. It's beginning to look like Democratic efforts are more for show and the news media than really making an effort to pass urgently needed health care legislation.

The family income under which families still qualify is too high. At $62,000 you can afford basic health insurance if its a priority for you. Again the demos are playing politics with kids. They see political advantages to be gained. Its akin to Al Qaeda strapping bombs around Iraqi kids and sending them to US soldiers.

$62,000 may be enough in Utah, but this is national legislation. In the higher cost of living states that doesn't even approach the median income, and according to some studies doesn't approach the minimum necessary for food, shelter, and health care.
