Everything in moderation works for most. Like sugar some simply don't know when to stop.

I would not comment at a public meeting about the liquor laws, because of the backlash from people who don't like that I drink (I'm 25, so it's not an age thing). However, I don't like that we can't purchase alcohol on Sundays -- it seems pointless considering that most of the people in Utah who don't drink alcohol probably don't shop on Sundays anyway (that's my assumption, at least).

I think the liquor laws here are too liberal already. Some of us moved from states that liquor everywhere like California and other places.. This state should be different. It always has been and should reflect the people who live here. If you do not like it go home.

My husband was hit by a drunk driver on a Sunday night and was a productive Dentist and now can no longer practice. That is what happens when a state has linient liquor laws- he lived in Missipi at the time. PLEASE THINK ABOUT our families and children yet to be born.

I think the laws here are a little too extensive, I understand the idea of trying to prevent drunk driving, or whatever. Even if you make it harder to get it will still happen, and for everyone who is saying "Underage drinking leads to drunk driving, and killing people" - I don't know many people who are underage and who drink and drive, most people I know try to stay where they are at or have a DD.

It's all about education, which there seems to be a lack of in this state (I grew up in MI). I don't understand not teaching kids about the consequences; I mean its better to teach them about it rather then to let them go off on their own way.

I am not saying to make all the laws go away, but some of them are a little ridiculous, the glass wall thing first of all. Not everyone in Utah is Mormon, and they don't need to comply with your rules to be happy. (I am not against the Mormon religion in any way - I just don't think that people should have their views attacked because its different

I occasionally enjoy a glass of good wine with good food. There IS a culture of wine drinking that is respectable and civilized. In Europe I would go to a wine shop owned by a wine connoisseur, someone trained in wines, and be able to sip a few wines, receive advice on what would go best with the dinner I had in mind. A true pleasure.... In Utah, I'm forced to go to a state liquor store, robbed of any atmosphere, deprived of any knowledgeable employees. Why is the STATE allowed to hold a monopoly on selling liquor??? Isn't Utah the state where people believe so much in so-called FREE TRADE? Personally I don't get it.

The ammount of "monitoring" on this site is crazy! I couldn't even ask a legitimate question!

You said "You'd like to see my right to post in a public forum taken away because you don't agree with me."

Well, You want to take away my right to drink because YOU don't agree with it. I'd like to see your right to post taken away because you are an irrational extremist. And don't bother to weigh both sides of the argument. And I was trying to make a point of how ridiculous it is to take away someone's rights just because you don't agree. And you illustrated my point perfectly. You said you want to get rid of alcohol because of its "economic and social desirability" and those are two huge reasons to keep it! you'd be putting thousands of people out of work if you had your way. You don't think about those families, only your own.

You also said "We aren't free to do anything you want in this country and that's a good thing."

And you're right however, I am free to do what is legal, and consuming alcohol IS legal.

You choose not to drink, so don't. You are free to do that. Let others do what they are free to do.

Greatest snow on Earth, worst alcohol laws in north America!

Once you guys change those stupid alcohol laws, can you add a few casinos with big hot tubs?
thanks,
Tourist.

Hmmm. There are no specific complaints about Utah liquor laws? I've got a few: Do away with private clubs. Its a stupid idea. Get rid of the glass zion curtain. From my experience of being underage, nobody went to restaurants to order alcohol: Carding patrons was an effective enough deterrent. Besides underage drinkers want more bang for their buck than a $7 glass of wine or $5 beer. Most kids get their beer from hobos who for a couple bucks will go in and buy a 12pack for them. The glass wall and having specific zones within restaurants does nothing. Banning the underaged from alcohol-serving restaurants seems draconian.

re: klimber510
What is your take on cigerettes and guns, should they be taken away? They kill more people than alcohol does. Remember you once drank to and enjoyed it, just because you don't anymore don't think your better than anyone else. If you don't like to drink than don't, but don't take my right to do so.
