I miss the Pinpoint Team. But then, I guess it outlived its need. We have such "insightful" reporting now days with questions like "How did you feel when you found out that your son had been killed in Iraq?" or how they feel about some other life event.

People, including journalists and the public, don't seem to be interested in thoughtful reporting and questions, so many paper and TV editors hire reporters and editors who either don't "go deep" or don't know how to, like Lou asked his staff to do. So, we get journalistic and intellectual laziness published and broadcast.

Lou will probably roll over in his grave several times a week.

Together, Lou Bate and DeAnn Evans taught me what journalism should be. They made a great team, showing the rest of us what journalistic integrity was all about.

I was sometimes a little scared of Lou because he could be gruff, but nothing could make me happier than his "Good job" written on my copy. I will miss him a lot.
