It is sad that they have put the public in such a pickle...on one hand, I see the point, that it is simply inoperable in its current state. But on the other hand, where is the accountability for what is CLEARLY negligence on the part of the city for the upkeep of this building? If we can keep the First Security building in good shape, this should have been easy. I'd vote no to teach them a lesson, but in that case the punishment would simply be passed on to the public. Whose lap does the blame fall squarely on? Mr. Anti-Bottle Anderson.

I don't doubt that the Public Safety Building is in "deplorable" condition, but should every man, woman and child in this city be forced to pay $1000 for new facilities?

Most of the buildings in SLC are as old or older, yet they aren't disintegrating. That's because the owners maintain them properly.

There is a lot of waste in public safety here. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent on new police cars and motorcycles each year? With the exception of those destroyed on the job, police vehicles generally have years' more life in them (look at all of those Crown Victorias which have been taxis since the PD sold them off in the 1990s). If the cab companies can run them every day for another decade or two, the police didn't need to replace them so often. In fact, many departments around the country keep their cars for 10 years or more.

That's just one example. Until our local government shows some sign of understanding the value of the money they take from us, we shouldn't write them any blank checks.

Vote NO on the Public Safety Facilities $192,000,000.00 BOONDOGGLE.

They are staging the whole thing - leaking roofs, bad plumbing etc. Why should we support this waste of our money.
