Alta's first state championship? They were as dominant as anyone in the 80's winning 2 (83 and 88)and playing for a third (84).
The article did say "first state championship since 1988". Don't correct what doesn't need correcting.
Go Cougars! Let's show Alta how physical you can be!!
Cougar fan, you haven't seen physical unless you've seen Alta play this year! Go on comcast On-Demand if you can and take a peek at the Alta vs Jordan game. The Hawks will hit you hard...ask Cody Raymond (Digger star).
Cougars, Come out hit hard and things will fall in place. Don't let up until the end.
Physical? Not in Utah High School football!
I've watched Alta dismantle a couple of pretty good teams from California. Bingham beat a Hawaii team that was ranked in the top 25 at the time, Fremont and other Utah schools also enjoyed similar success against other team outside of Utah. Bingham and Alta are both ranked in the top 100 High School programs in the country on a national high school website. I think Utah high school football stacks up pretty well. What are you smokin!?
High School football Rules. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs.
I had a conversation with maxxpreps editor on National Rankings specifically #1 ranked Mater Dei, and he thought that ALTA could beat Mater Dei, given the way AM Fork played against them....so if Utah is not physical, then neither is anyone else!
Alta Alum,
My bad. Sorry. Just saw that did not keep reading. Just knew first-hand that they won a lot in the 80s.
Alta kicked us all over the field when I played. Bingham had no success from the mid-40s to the mid- 90s. I played during a stretch of 12 consecutive seasons of a .500 record or worse.
Once coach Peck got there, things changed. Bingham made 2 or 3 semi-final appearances in the late 90s - early 00s when Northridge and Skyline were the big 2 (kind of like Bingham & Alta now). And of course the last 3 or 4 years have been unreal. Something I never thought I'd see. And after what Alta did to us 20+ years ago, I love the fact that we have won 4 straight from you. Hope we have another thrilling state championship game in a couple weeks (in the semis).
Bingham Alum...It is a lot of fun to see these kids doing well. Coach Hamilton has brought a work ethic and instilled a winning attitude into the program. I also have great respect for what Coach Peck has done at Bingham. They are the real deal and barring some major misteps, I expect that the two will meet at Rice Eccles in the semi's. It should be a battle. I'm also happy to see very little trashtalking on this blog...most of the Alta fans that I know conduct themselves with alot of class.
Hey Alta nice game Finish Strong This season
