It really was a blessing for the Jazz that Fisher wanted out of Utah. Somewhere closer to NY like L.A. He was over priced to begin with and his time at the 2 spot was a disaster, both in his inability to guard big gaurds, and the lack of developement that occurred last year with Brewer and Miles.

What we will miss is a good back up point gaurd, but to pay fisher that kind of money to play 8 minutes a game would be far too much. All in all it worked out best for everyone including Fish. He got back to L.A. and got a starting point gaurd spot (at least for a few months, look for him to loose it soon to Farmar)

Fish needs to move to LA to have doctors visits every month while Booz can have his family live in Miami during the season? Seems to me that something is stinky about the Fish.

It's not the presence at point guard that will be missed... I do recall being concerned everytime Fish tried to penetrate the lane then look like a lost child in the paint wondering what to do with the ball. His biggest contributions were at the 2-guard with his defense and shooting, and of course his mature presence.

While I respect and empathize with his daughter's situation, there was more to his decision to leave Utah for L.A. -- just how soon he signed with the Lakers after he left the Jazz is a testament to that. Kobe may well have been in contact with Fish. Makes sense, I guess... he did have three rings alongside Kobe.

If fisher Is still making trips to New York I think that we shouldve tried to deal him to the knicks before we let him out of his contract. We couldve traded him in hopes that the knicks give us the draft pick they owe us that was part of the marbury trade.

You are wrong. The only place Fish will be missed is at the PG where he got us into our offense reasonably well. Overall he did a mediocre, AT BEST, job defending/shooting from the 2 spot. He has never been a good shooter if you bother to look at his stats. He got killed by multiple 2 guards last year--could not defend them at all. Too short and too slow. As a sidenote he was also way overpaid.

As far you thinking his decision was to go be with Kobe? Kobe will be gone from LA soon, possibly withing the next 2 weeks. It was not like Fish was going to LA to team with Kobe to win a championship or something. If that is what Kobe told him to get him there then he got used. They are not winning anything--especially if/when Kobe is traded which is looking more likely on a daily basis.

Kobe is not talking in the press any more but it looks like, behind closed doors, he has given the Lakers an ultimatum. Trade me or else.

...the loop, but where have you guys heard that Fisher still makes trips to NY for his daughter? I just haven't heard that. I have still been giving Fish the benifit of the doubt, but if anyone can give me a source I can look at...

If you think losing fishers shooting,is going to hurt the jazz your wrong, if you think losing his defense,your also wrong. maybe leadership, but nothing else.besides if he was still here d-will booz would have to take a back seat, to fish. just let brewer play take the good with the bad but let him play.

Guys, I just read in another local paper that Fisher said he thinks they have one more visit to NY, but then the rest of the treatment will be done in LA. Fisher did not screw us or lie to us or anything else. His agent probably called the six or seven teams in the cities with the specialists they need the moment he was released by the Jazz. The Lakers were interested and so it happened quick. Is it really that hard to see the good in people?

GO JAZZ concidering it they didnt do good durring the preseason and it should be thier goal to do their best now and get to the finals for the NBA and then they will be able to keep a good title. Will they do it?

Just let it go. So Fish is gone. Why be spoiled sports about it? If he visits NY 200 times a day, I really don't care. What's done is done. If Fish opted out and he did it for reasons other than the ones he disclosed, oh well. He'll have to live with that. I'm thinking that all of you "Fisher-screwed-over-the-Jazz" conspiracy theorists need to put away your binoculars and stop stalking Fisher.

Life goes on. You all make it sound like he scored 20,000 points for the Jazz. He was a servicable sixth man. Sure, we'll miss him. Overall impact? Probably not a "sky-is-falling" situation that everyone is making it out to be. If anything, the Jazz have $8 million to invest a bit wiser.

No one is making it out to be a "sky is falling" situation but yourself. As nearly everyone posting on this article has said it was a good thing for the team to have Fishers contract gone.

No one has ever been let out of a contract so that their wife wouldn't have to take a 1 and a half hour flight once a month for a Dr's appointment.

But as you see we're not complaining. It was as one highly intelligent commenter said "a blessing in disguise".

I would hope things in L.A would work out for the Lakers... Kobe and Fisher would be great together... Kobe needs to realize that he is in a great situation with Fisher there... too bad Kobe cant carry himself with as much class as Fisher!!!

Remember when Derek Fisher came back from New York in the Golden State game and single handily lifted the Jazz to that win... Well "fans"... you cant talk bad about someone who had class and respect for the Jazz... When he first go to Utah he was mentioned his concern for one of Utah's own missing children... I hope Kobe ends up in New York. He and Isaiah deserve each other. This would also give Fish a place to stay while there on medical visits.

My "sky is falling" comment is based on the fact that people are still mad at Fisher over the fact that he "spurned" the Jazz, and that people are putting him under a microscope because of his situation with his daughter. I'm just saying people need to move on.

I for one am not mad at Fisher. I was not a big fan of his game especially in the regular season but with out him in the playoffs Jazz do not get past the first round and Boozer and Dwill back that up with there own statements. While he was here he was a stand up guy with the community, fans and team. Who cares who he signed with and how long and all the stuff people put under the microscope. He is motivated by the health of his daughter and family. Boozer did the same before he got to camp. I hope he does well except when the Jazz play him. Besides it does not make any sense for him to opt out of a lucrative contract and a winning team to go to the Lakers who will be lucky to make the playoffs and less money. Good luck Derek

While Fishers departure of the jazz was a good/bad situation. What we lost was a good leader and a good person in our community. but we also lost some of his ill advised shots. Now we can sign D-Will to a max contract and start developing our younger talent at the two guard spot for the future. With the upmost respect to Fishers child, his departure will be something that will benifit the jazz in the long term.

Asked about Fisher, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said only: "I'm just happy he's happy, that's the most important thing."

Meaning fisher was not happy in Utah.

Why? For the same reason he wasn't happy in Golden State. He wasn't starting at point guard. Fisher has always said that he feels he is good enough to be a starter

There it is! You are so smart. He wanted out cuz he'd never be the starter with Williams here! He mentioned mutiple times last year that he is a point guard not a SG. So he was too proud to be a backup, well he's got maybe 1 year if that left and then he won't even start in Europe. He needs to learn how to be a 2nd unit player if he wants to stay in the league. ps He was a worse defender than Gordon and worse shooter. Good riddence mr "family man"
