Fact Checker

There's a factual error in this story.

"The county reluctantly gives a Jordan School District split the go-ahead." Actually, the State Legislature met in a Special Session called by Gov. Huntsman and changed the law to bypass the Salt Lake County Council.

The Council did not vote on the Granite split, because the same Special Session did not address funding equalization.

A County Council vote was not required to put the Jordan split on the ballot. The esteemed legislators merely did and end-run around the Council.

More fact checking

"December: After a Granite Board of Education decision to close Granite High School..."

Not!

The Granite board never had a motion nor any vote to close Granite High.

Note to DNews reporters/editors: Maybe your should have education reporters write about education. You fouled up your time line in at least three instances.
