BYU will be 11-2:

Comments like yours is the exact reason why we are branded the way we are and hated by the Utes. Why don't you try to act like Coach Mendenhall teaches his players to act. He never tears down another team...he only focuses on his own team and that is the way we should act as fans.

This is just another bogus and hyped program builder from Bronco Mendenhall. I can only imagine what he will do next and have Harmon write an article about it......problem solving? statistics? water aerobics? spinning? horseshoes? yoga?

Anything to give your team the "supposed edge" and keep the alumni and boosters happy. Bronco rates up there with P.T. Barnum.

Re:Re:Ygrad

I'm not sure what you mean by having the eyes and heart to recognize Bronco's genius. The article I read was about some think tank that came to BYU and praised his organizational behavior strategies.

Nowhere did I find something that would require me to open my heart to anything. Despite popularly held beliefs in Provo, the BYU football team has very little positive impact on fan spirituality. In fact, I would argue (and I have ample anecdotal evidence from the sports blogs on Desnews) the football team, and more specifically, its performance has a negative impact on fan spirituality.

I don't need to open my eyes and heart to anything in this article because it is what it is, a fluff piece about the BYU football team.

I'm a fan. I'm a graduate. But because I'm those things does not make me believe something that is not true.

By the way, if we need to look at long past history for football glory, BYU will have to win in the holy war 30+ years in a row to even tie the score, so let's not beat that dead horse.

RE: Yewts Bowl Success (LOL) | 4:28 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Yewt fans are pathetic...

I always love the bowl game comparisons. Has it ever occurred to them that BYU plays better opponents in their bowl games because they have historically been the better team? Even the 04 Yewts played a horrible Pitt team that didn't even deserve to be there.

Tulane and Marshall (historically not good teams) were undefeated in the years we played them. Perhaps you should be more analytical in your thinking, but that would be asking too much for a yewt. Congratulations on your bowl record of beating a bunch of patsies.

Wonderful article about a coach that is raising the bar, and building a program.

Many fans sound jealous because BYU is trying build a program that does not "pimp" it's players (use and abuse their players and then kick them to the curb, common in all sports above the YMCA level. Anyone who has played at any level understands that is what sports programs have become) rather they care about character and football not as the end, but the means to the end.

What is impressive is his vision was articulated by his players, meaning they have bought in.

What a visionary and example to the rest of the sport's world.

I am proud to be a U of U graduate, but a BYU fan.

I love the culture here. I guarantee it's different than any other school in the country, and that's what this article was getting at. We do have comparative advantages here in Provo, and we need to take advantage of them. I love Cougar football because it's unique. What is special about the Utes? They are just another football team. There are expectations and standards here. Bronco has his priorities straight.

You write that you're a "fan" then smugly note that the BYU football program has a negative impact on fan spirituality?? Tell that to the people who attended the team fireside inside a packed Stake Center in Glendale, California earlier this year.
Re: Tell me how good you are | 1:27 p.m. Oct. 19, 2007
This may quite possibly have been the most asinine comment I have ever read. Did you even think before you ran your mouth? Tell me...what team in the country goes around screaming, "We're number 342! We're number 342!" Come on! Get real. Every team thinks they are the best, and if they don't, then why play? Asinine, simply asinine.
