The Utes will have their hands full. TCU is extremely tough. at home. The Utes will have to play flawless just to keep it close. TCU 24 - Utah 14. This is the beginning of the end for Coach Kyle
At least we should beat CSU. | 1:32 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
OK, everyone knows that utah doesn't have a chance to beat TCU, Wyoming, New Mexico or BYU, but we can still finish the season at 5-7 if we can beat CSU. We have already beaten the 0-6 team of USU the 2-4 team of SDSU, now if we can beat the 0-6 CSU our season with be complete. At least we should win 10 games in basketball.

TCU 28 U 6

@JD

Wrong! Utes 24 - TCU 14!
JIMI | 7:54 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
WHAT...... you guys arnt true fans man. how do we not stand a chance to beat TCU, Wyoming,New Mexico, and BYU. IF we come to play, we can beat anyone in the MWC. WHERES ALL THE TRUE UTE FANS?
GO UTES
5-7 | 8:04 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
5-7 is what seemed most realistic when the season exploded with injuries. Anything worse than that would be terrible. Anything better would be impressive. If they actually make it to 7-5 and a bowl game, Whittingham should get votes for conference coach of the year.
Real UTE fans? | 8:08 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
I'm glad all of you BYU fans continue to post comments under the false pretense that you are Utah fans. A real fan would never pick his team to lose and post such disparaging remarks. Utah wins 37 - 17!!! By the way since I do like my neighbors and wish the best for my conference I hope the Y can also pull out a win. And no Utah won't finish 5-7 it will be more like 9-3!
SP | 8:09 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
This is the real test for Kyle, if he cannot get the team up for this game then the only thing left is to get ready to play BYU and rain on their parade.

As inconsistant as we have been I am gessing TCU 24-20

TCU's home record | 8:14 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
2002: 6-0
2003: 6-0
2004: 4-2 L: South Florida 44-45,Tulane 35-31
2005: 5-0
2006: 5-1 L: BYU 31-17 blowout
2007: 3-0

2004 was their down year. Other than that, this team is so hard to beat at home. All the wins this year have been dominating wins, yet all over weak teams. If TCU does not struggle, they will easily defeat Utah. Their only chance to win is to figure out how BYU did it.
You're Sniffing Glue | 8:27 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
The Utes are going to come out and play their game tonight and beat TCU. It will be a close game and the defense is going to have to stop the fourth quarter come back, but the U will win!! Great practice for BYU, when we win this one the boys down south will become very nervous!! Mack rolls for 120 yards with a TD and Johnson throws over 300 with 3 TDs, sorry TCU. Utah wins 35-27.

GO UTES!!!
AP | 8:32 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
I would have to say that the Utes will lose this game. Then again, this is exactly the kind of game they seem to win. Go Utes!!
Utes | 8:54 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
True fans can either wish or be reasonable.

True fan here.

6-6.
Good Luck | 8:58 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Being a directv guy it will be nice to get a chance to see the game tonight. I thought after the first 6 utah would be 3-3. I was right but I didn't think 2 of the wins would be UCLA and Louisville. Could be tough tonight but I don't think TCU has much of an offense. If the utes don't make mistakes I see them winning this game.
I'm not a Ute fan | 8:58 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Where are all the Ute fans? That's a good question, especially since Rice-Eccles was half empty for Saturday's win over SDSU. If the U loses this one I'm guessing the only ones who will see the next home game will be the cheerleaders and the band.
Who will know??? | 9:01 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Who is Versus, never heard of the outfit. No access by my cable provider! What is going on with our Utah team broadcasters. Lets get back to the old days when we could enjoy Utah college football on TV. The BIG GAME is being played by the broadcasters and power mongers vs. the fans. It is a game where no one wins!!!!!!!Baha Broadband finally added the mtn. but the next day we all got a rate increase!
Ute Hater | 9:13 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Utes will lose tonight big! Nothing will make me more happier. They don't have a chance. TCU is too tough to beat at home. Thank goodness, BYU didn't get Wittingham as their coach...
Anonymous | 9:20 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Why there are so many BYU trash talker on Utes related blogs and only a few Utes talking trash in BYU blogs? Did Utes make you so frastrated over this past 10 years??
Duchman | 9:37 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Where have you been "who will know"? You must have your head in a hole somewhere in Utah County. Versus reaches 70 million homes and is available on DirecTV, Dish, and of course Comcast. Next to ESPN and Fox Sports Net it is the largest sports broadcaster. Utah 30 TCU 20. Kyle keeps his job. By-the-way, the disparaging remarks made by Harvey Unga about K. Whittingham to Tribune writer Monson showed he is not a class act. Unga should know that you do not trash someone who is not present to defend himself and Monson should have waited to run the article until he had a comment from Whit.
siestabowl for utes | 9:37 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
I used to go to Ute games and found the fans arrogant, crude, and obnoxious. Every Ute loss gives me great glee!!!
GO UNLV and AF | 9:41 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
I remember a team that went through 4 quarterbacks and was very young, everyone said, play with what you have and don't make excuses. Isn't it ironic that now utah has all of these excuses. 5-7 is 5-7!
danburtreynolds | 9:45 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
It is interesting that people are calling TCU such a juggernaut with Tommy Blake out and a Freshman QB. This is not the same Utah team as with the first 4 games of the season. The emergence of Mack, the leadership of Johnson, and the defense showing signs of coming together. Utah wins tonight. And, as always, the worst day as a Utah fan is still better than the best day as a zoob.
Get it right | 9:47 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Ok so TCU is good at home, let's look at their home opponents this year....Baylor, CSU, and SMU. Yes they are undefeated at home but who couldn't beat those opponents? SMU is the only decent one 3-3 and 2-1 (if you can call that decent in CUSA). Look at the last 4 years as well, you may find one or two good opponents at home. Both teams have struggled this year with injuries but Utah has done a better job bouncing back winning the last three games. Look at the stats...Utah is superior in passing, rushing, special teams and defense. Only thing TCU has going for them in this game is their home crowd. Brian Johnson has another stellar game in front of his friends and family. Coach Whit does another great job in preparation. Utah wins 31 17 GO UTES!
Weddle for President | 10:26 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Get it right...

"who couldn't beat those opponents?"

I said the same thing about Utah's chances against UNLV this year.. just before they pounced on the Utes.

I love how loyal Ute fans are... especially when UCLA came to town Rice-Eccles was half empty. Come on Crimson.. Stand Up!

TCU 34 - Utah 3
blueheron | 10:44 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
This is a toss-up game. If Utah can maintain composure in the second half, Sakoda will win the game.

Utah 24 TCU 21. Or vice versa.

Leaning toward the Utes.
TriSam | 10:47 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
TCU 24, Utah 21. Overtime. Gunna be close.
GO GOUGS!!!
Red Blood | 10:48 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
byu fans should practice what they preach. Worry about your own team and the high school team they are playing on Saturday.

What did Utah do to you anyway? Could you not get in? Is that why there is more hate for Utah in you than the love you have for the cooters?
Get it right | 11:15 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Why do zoobs always fall back on attendance? It's like their main stance on everything. What else is there to do down in Provo, right? I'd rather talk football than why or why not attendance is high or low.
Big Al | 11:22 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
I'm a loyal Cougar fan, always have been, always will be, and I hope the UTES spank the frogs tonight! In fact, I hope both the Cougs and the Utes go undefeated until they meet 11/24--then I have to get behind BYU all the way. Until then, if both teams do well, it will be a great game when they meet. Postscript on my comments about tonight's game--I always put a hex on any team from Texas or Florida--I hope TCU loses by 30 tonight!! It will just make me feel better . . .
Bobby Miles Doopay | 11:28 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
If you can't get the game, just remember that there are new episodes of "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office" on tonight.

This is the biggest game of the year for the Utes. Unfortunately it is also the biggest game of the year for the Horny Frogs. They won't be looking past Utah and this isn't RES like the UCLA game. Utes need to "live in the now" for this one.

Huge, Huge and Huge!!! Looking for the Utes to keep it close and pull some magic out at the end. Kicking game and special teams may be the difference for the Utes. Hoping that Kyle is the coach grinning at the end of this one.

Utah 37
TCU 31

Suggestion for pep talk to Utes, courtesy of Dwight Schrute:

Dwight: Whenever Im about to do something, I think would an idiot do that? and if they would, I do not do that thing.

Go LBUNs, we cougar fans need your best to make this November meaningfull.

Gordon From Jordan | 11:33 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
There's too much anger between Ute and Cougar fans. Can't we all just get along!

I'll be rooting for the Utes to whip up on yet another overrated preseason football team (ie: Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami...the usual). Utah 31-21 over the Frogs.

BYU runs the tables setting up a great game in Provo in late November.

Hawk | 11:38 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Red Blood - Whatever the cheap rag about BYU v Utah in football, don't pull the "couldn't get in Utah" line. Comparing incoming ACT scores and the number of National Merit Scholars would quickly give you a reality check. The undergraduate academic differences are stark.
re:Duchman | 11:40 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Just to let you know, you just trashed Unga when he wasn't there to defend himself. I think the Deseret News should have waited to post your post until they got a comment from Unga.

I used to watch a TV show named "Duckman". Any relation? ;-)

Big game for the U tonight. VS. used to be called The Outdoor Channel. Used to show alot of fishing shows. Still show alot of rodeos. Camera people are stronger than mtn., but still poor and not enough angles on replay. Announcers are weak also, but better than mtn. and CSTV. Bottom line, better than not watching it.

Just need to figure a way to get mtn. for Saturday's BYU game. Hey, maybe I'll call DirecTV and ask them to carry the mtn. I bet that'll work.

C'mon!!!

Kyle and the Utes will show what they are made of. No way to predict on this one, though. Utes have never had a must win against a tough opponent at their place. It will be interesting to see what they are made of.

Close game.

Utah or TCU by 2...(I know, weak sitting on the fence... OK, Utah by two)
Zoob | 11:46 a.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Attendance and Size both matter.

You can't play either of them off.

That's why Great Big Programs had Great Big Stands, to pleasure and satisfy their Fans.
Red Blood | 12:04 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Hawk...sarcasm is apparently lost on you.

You need to stop taking byu football and yourself so seriously.
Re: Weddle for President | 12:05 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
How can you say, "Get it right..." and "I love how loyal Ute fans are...especially when UCLA came to town Rice-Eccles was half empty"? Attendance at the UCLA-Utah game was over 43,000. Seating capacity is just over 45,000. Can you do the math, or are ratios too advanced for you?
GO Utes! | 12:08 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
The reason Cougars fans have so much to say about this game, is the fact that it is the only good conference game of the week. Their team is holding a home scrimmage game this week. TCU at their best can barely beat Utah and BYU in overtime(2005). Yes, the Utes have been two teams this year. One was second string(which beat a team the cougs could not beat) and the other, the starters and stud freshmen which have one the last three with ease. I would rather be a Utah State fan than a cougar fan. Go Utes!
Cougar prediction | 12:09 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Utah 27 TCU 24
Brian Johnson is getting better each week and tonights win over TCU will put him right back to where he was before he blew his knew. I am picking Utah also because TCU isn't that good this year. BYU is unpredictable this year. The coug's have alot of explosive power but they are also very careless with the football and their secondary was exposed against Tulsa. In other words, the MWC crown is still up for grabs for BYU, TCU, UTAH,and WYO.
Please Jimmy | 12:35 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Where is "JD"? Jimmy's Sneakers has been a tease for months now and I can't take it anymore. We need you Jimmy, we must have more. Please tell us where you are from and how we can contact you.

The Peaeuwts will stink up the place, until Chris Hill wises up and gets Norm Chow to coach football and throws Kyle under the bus. What do you think of that Jimmy?

I think Jimmy's real name is "JD", hence the moniker. Eastern Washington will throttle the Boogers too. 35-10.
STATS | 1:14 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
What is byu's overall win % in bowl games?
.32%
What is Utahs's overall win % in bowl games?
.79%
Since 2000 how many winning seasons has BYU had?
2
Since 2000 how many winning seaons has Utah had?
5

Since 2000 they both have had two MWC titles

Which program is better?

So byu fans- have your one winning season every 4-5 years and think your on top of the world.

Ps how did your game go against that powerhouse Tulsa?

Who gave Notre Dame their first win on the year?
UCLA, how did you do in that game?

I know, now you byu fans will tell me about the refs or how good you are because you will beat a 1-AA team.

The bottom line is your secondary stinks, and your hardest games are yet to come. WYO has a good passing attack, and vs your secondary couple with the game at WYO and smashed b/t TCU and Utah= LOSS. Then Utah will go to their home away from home and Win, just like they did two years ago when they were favored to lose by 11 points.

uteowl | 1:53 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Anyone who wants to watch the game but doesn't get .mtn or versus via cable or satellite can get it online by downloading TVU. You can watch Versus, Fox News, Scifi channel and others on your computer - FREE!

Close game, Utah in a squeeker - Sakoda's foot will be the diff reversing the last Texas matchup 23-20 Utah.
Dixie Coug | 2:03 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
STATS: Remind me how you did against UNLV and Air Force?......Howd the cougs do?

UCLA is currently tied for first in the "mighty" PAC 10. They're almost as inconsistent as the yewts are.

No Way Utah beats New Mexico, BYU, Wyoming, and TCU. They will drop at least 1 if not all of them.

Since the yewts are picked to lose, they will probably win. That seems to be their pattern.

Go Frogs!!!
Texas Fan | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
STAT--the only statistic that counts this season is the win/loss record for the season and the only statistic that counts for the TCU-Utah game is the final score. I am a BYU fan and a Utah fan and I hope Utah wins tonight, which can only occur if Utah puts the most points on the score board. When BYU and Utah face each other at the end of the regular season I hope the best team wins. Tonight, I hope Utah is the best team.
Oh brother | 2:10 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Here comes stat man again with all the meaningless mind-numbing stuff you could ever wish for. But I give you some credit, you did ask the important question "which program is better". The answer is BYU. Thanks for asking.

At any rate good luck to the little BUN's tonight against TCU because they'll need it. I don't care if they win or not but it would add more cred to our victory in November when the Cougars stomp them into the semi-frozen turf at LES, best stadium in the conference and home of the best team in the conference. I know it drives yoot fans crazy that BYU is still considered the premier program in the conference even after the yoot's recent success, which now isn't so recent anymore. And the B in BUN's was that for brothers or a word that ryhmes with itches?
re: stats | 2:27 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
And what is your record in conference?
And how well have the Utes done on the road?
And how many National Championships...???

This picking and choosing of stats and scores by both sides is pretty stupid, conisdering neither team is perfect, and neither team is weak.

I have enjoyed BYU and Utah's traditions, and slamming one or the other does not improve either's standings.

...sounds like you could use a Dwight Schrute quote:

Dwight: First rule in roadside beet sales, put the most attractive beets on top. The ones that make you pull the car over and go wow, I need this beet right now. Those are the money beets.

Tonight's game against TCU is Utah's "Money Beet". Compared to that, all of your stats mean squat (unless you think they will lose and you are trying to soften your landing... As for me and my family, we will cheer on the Utes!!!)

Quit being a parrothead and start thinking in the now...
re:stats | 2:38 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Stats spelled backwards is stats.

This post doesn't make any sense either, but both speak the truth.

Think about it.
VS | 3:08 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Anyone who can't watch the game feel free to swing by my house and watch it with me and my family.

Just my way of saying I feel your pain.

Craig Thompson
MWC

(OK, not really, but wouldn't it be nice if he just said he did something boneheaded and would try to fix it instead of all this call DTY and DISH crap???)
.79% | 3:30 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Less than 1% is nothing to be proud of. Now if you meant 79%, and I assume you did, that's more impressive.

Good luck to all bowl-eligible MWC teams in their annual early-December bowl games.
Nyron Pulsipher | 3:31 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Weddle for President? President of what? We have already had a couple of U.S.Presidents who did not play by the rules. BYU game 2006."#32 grabs Brown by the shoulder pads and throws him down", 4-5 after he is already out of bounds." (Yellow flag by the way, UNSPORTSMAN LIKE CONDUCT, ON THE DEFENSE, #32) What does #32 do? He looks at the screen. 'did ya see that ma?' No I don't want him on my team in any capacity.
Cougar fans | 3:54 p.m. Oct. 18, 2007
Will one of you PLEASE for the love of God back yourselves up. Its too easy, stats are stats, every post a ute throws stats (FACTS!!!) and Cougars throw jabs (OPINIONS!!!) Why dont you come back with some stats of your own??? I know why... CUZ YOU CANT!!!!! Its like arguing with someone about the time of day when one person is wearing a watch. He tells you the time and you somehow argue with him. You are all pure geniuses!!! I love each and everyone of you special little fellas
