pro-abortion - Nationally Democrats are pro-choice, i.e., women can not be *forced* to complete a pregnancy. That position is consistent with restrictions and guidelines (much like the LDS General Handbook statement). The National Republican position is so restrictive that it would not allow the LDS position to be implemented. Note: the leading Republican Presidential candidate is pro-choice - or "pro-abortion".
pro-gun control - There are pro gun control candidates in both major parties. None want to outlaw guns in general, just reduce access to extremely efficient killing weapons. The most ardent gun control proponent in the Presidential race is the leading Republican.
pro-big government platforms - Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2 have spent more money, racked up bigger deficits, and hired more government workers and contractors than other administrations. Note:
The budgets *submitted* by Reagan were *larger* (in terms of deficits) than what the Democratic Congresses approved!
The *ONLY* president since President Truman that actually decreased the number of federal government workers over the course of either one or two terms in office was President Clinton!
Check the facts before assuming Republicans will do what they say after you vote them into power.
1. The Democrat party may give lip service to differing views on abortion, but the reality is that no amount of restriction is acceptable to the National Democrat Party. Which is why almost all of the opposition to the recent "partial birth" abortion ban came from the Democrat side of the aisle.
The LDS view that abortion is acceptable only in cases of rape, incest, or preserving the mother's live would effectively ban 99% of all abortions, and is thus inconsistent with the Democrat Party's National Platform.
2. As above, the Democrat Party may give lip service to the Second Amendment, but almost every major federal gun control law in US history has been passed and signed by Democrats.
3. The federal deficit has been steadily declining for the past 5 years, and is in terms of GDP now lower than during most of the Clinton Era.
Both Bill Clinton's and Harry Truman's success at cutting government employees came almost solely at the expense of the military -- with disastrous results.
We reap what we sew folks.
And don't look now, but the NRA has endorsed multiple Democrats all across the country.
In regards to abortion, the stance has always been: "safe, legal, and rare." If you really think the government shouldn't make decisions for us as a people, why then should you decide that a mother cannot choose to go through an abortion and bear the consequences of that decision?

Sorry, but until the Democrats abandon their pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-big government platforms, they won't get many votes in Happy Valley, even if they have a cool homepage.
