I had never hiked up Ensign Peak and wanted to do so after reading an article earlier this summer in the Deseret Morning News. I was able to do that with my wife and 12 year old son just before October Conference while visiting SLC from Alberta, Canada. Thank you to Elder Ballard and others who made this trail possible, it was rewarding to have the history of Ensign Peak displayed on plaques to educate ourselfs. I can see however that a regular program of insuring the maintenance of such monuments and historic sites is important, as time and people quickly take their toll on them.
Sometimes it's difficult to feel the sacredness through the spray paint and knife carvings.
