The UN should not call this a "scientific panel", since it's all based on belief. It's more religious than any religion, and demands far more faith than I have. Go watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" to see how deceptive this whole global warming nonsense is. The earth may be warming, but it certainly isn't caused by man. And now, we (you, me, everyone) is going to be severely punished for being human, for driving cars, for turning on the electricity, for living.

Please, won't Al Gore just go away?

This is a total farce, based on "junk science" driven by a politcal agenda. Gore's absurd claims are NOT accepted by as many as he claims, and are contradicted by much data showing that global warming has little relationaship to human causes.

Remember, this is the same bunch that gave Yasser Arafat the Nobel for his contributions to "peace" in Israel.

Gore's award has as much credibility as giving an award to Hurrucae Katrina for achievements in urban renewal in New Orleans.

This is a great day for me. No one believed me the sky was falling. Now that Super Al has won the nobel prize like Yasser Arifat, more people will believe me. Hmmm, I wonder what fat has to do with being able to win a nobel prize?
Arifat, Fat Al. Interesting

The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity," Gore said. Like I said, Fat Al is just another false prophet. I told you this was a new false religion!

MIT atmospheric physicist Richard Lindzen, who has criticized Gore's presentation and argued that global warming will not be catastrophic, said the award, along with the Oscar earned by "An Inconvenient Truth," demonstrates "that this issue has become more of a political and fashion issue than a scientific one."

"The award came two days after a British judge ruled that, while Gore's documentary makes a strong case that human activity has contributed to global warming and that there is a sense of urgency to deal with it, the movie contained nine factual errors not supported by scientific consensus."

These 2 just don't have Al's deep understanding of climate change. Al has 25 PhD's in climatology. There is no doubt about the science of global warming, all scientists know we are doomed thanks to Maha Al & ROCKY & JOHN HUNTSMAN THE YOUNGER, AND ARNOLD. It's insane you little people believe the crap that comes from politicians. Notice it was ALL politicians in the article that praised Al, not one scientist mentioned? Wake up America, you are under attack!

Anyone who writes a book on the study of our environment worldwide and makes 9 major errors and then gets a Nobel Prize for it, has got to suspect that the Nobel Prize is not so Noble.
anonymous | 8:18 a.m. Oct. 13, 2007
The White House congratulated Mr. Gore on this achievement then said it would not change any existing policy. So what else is new?

However one feels about global warming (and I'm all for protecting the environment), Gore does not deserve an award for what he's done. His film has been found to be factually dishonest in many ways, even by some who support the global warming theory and are annoyed that their argument is being tarnished by Gore's bogus "science." Gore's tactics insult science itself: He refuses to debate the arguable aspects of his beliefs with the arrogant statement that we've already arrived at a consensus on global warming, and there is no more need for debate or examination of the evidence.

Worst of all is Gore's personal conduct, for while he lectures the world about what we should all be doing to save the world, he consumes energy in enormous amounts on land and in air. His explanation? He buys carbon credits from environmental activists to "offset" his consumption. (This means he allows himself an excessive carbon footprint by funding more science-stretching propaganda.)

As for the last statement in this article, that Gore is a little "humbled" by the Nobel prize ... where is evidence that Gore has been humbled by anything?

One more blow to the credibility and judgment of the Nobel Committee.

Sad that this announcement comes so close after a well-deserved one for Dr. Capecchi.

Als prize is purely political. The criteria are plainly layed out by Nobel. He does not meet the criteria .

I would love to create a giant statue with the names of all you idiots who ignore the science and think Global Warming is a farce. Than in 50 years your children and grand children can be so proud when they are suffering from the effects of global warming and they know that the neglect of their parents caused the problems. It would be so satisfying.

WC is so wrong! Please do some investigating. Global Warming enthusists need to believe in the Land of Oz.

Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat and Al Gore, we're so proud of you. Mr Nobel is turning in his grave with this travesty award. The U.N. as a co-recipient....how great is that!

It is interesting to note that in the 1970's people were worried about global cooling, now people are worried about global warming. I think a lot of the problem of this global warming frenzy is that people trust our biased media and automatically assume that what they say is true. People need to do their own research from unbiased sources on global warming. This is just another excuse to tax us. Oh and learn about carbon offsets that you can buy. looks more like rent-a-tree to me. We should do our part to keep our world clean, but humans can't control the weather cycles.

Its nice to see that AL is making millions of dollars off of his scheme to fool the people.I guess you would call it the American dream. He was very smart to involve hollywood. He certainly has a credible source to back up his claims. Have you ever wondered why he cuts and runs when someone with a scientific background wants to debate him or even answer a few questions after his most prestigous award ceremony? He runs away to fight another day with the help of his friends in the press who seem to be the source of all credible information now days.

Did anyone else read about burning sea water for fuel? Let's see. If we used seawater the oceans wouldn't raise because of melting ice caps, We would lower the carbon dioxide level so the ice caps wouldn't melt, the Polar bears would be happy and the big oil barons could declare bankruptcy and we'd have no more wars for oil. Problem solved.
Mary | 12:54 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Just a question. I'm not taking sides on whether Gore is being honest or not, but have a question. If he gets a Nobel Peace Prize for putting his name on a book and documentary, then why wasn't the award also given to the makers of Schnidler's List, which outlined the autrosities of World War II, or any of the other movies and/or books that have documented the problems with this world? I just didn't realizing that a book and movie deal warranted a Nobel Peace Prize. No politics incinuated in this question, just wondering what other money making projects a person has to do, to win an award that is supposed to be coveted.

Hashbaz,

I am very relieved you are not running any government entity that has to deal with GW as a serious threat. You don't get it; nor, do you want to.
Rich | 2:26 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Mary, no worries. Let's not forget that "Doctor" Henry Kissinger also won this peace prize, for his bombing of Cambodia.
Tim | 4:14 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
All is well. Don't worry. Be happy. La la la. Sounds like some people are in happy denial. Yes, there are a few scientists who don't believe that humans are responsible for global warming. There are many, many, many more who have evidence that says we are. Some Americans, however, have too much pride to believe that their wasteful lifestyle is wrong.
Time to repent!
Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to look at the scientific papers (published in scientific journals) to see that scientists do have evidence...and that internet site you like, and that talk radio you listen to, don't count.
Mary | 4:23 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Rich, mine was a serious question. I am trying to figure out what it takes to win the Nobel Peace Prize, in this day and age. Is it a major block-buster movie with an environmental theme (I think Happy Feet did that too, did it not?)? Is it opening the debate (which I'm truly grateful that this movie and the controversy did) of an issue? I was asking for information, not more one-sided political argument. thank you
Don | 5:42 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Was the Nobel for inventing global warming or for inventing the internet?
Keith | 8:34 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Gore's prize only spotlights the political nature of the "Peace Prize."

The global-warming theory has nothing to do with peace, but this second prize to an outspoken critic of Bush has everything to do with dissing the President, and every voter who supported him.
Warming? Cooling? | 8:40 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
WC, I remember back in the 1970s, when we were all warned of the coming ICE AGE, by the same hysterics and grant-money grazers who now rant about warming.

Just as now, they had charts and tree rings and all kinds of other "proof" that we were rolling into the coldest summers in history. All the crops would die, and so would we.

They also demanded that we spend billions of dollars on CO2 GENERATORS in order to save the forests, which were "choking to death without enough carbon dioxide."

Junk science is not science.

S.L. | 9:54 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
I would like to know the scientific credentials of all of the folks who have been referring to the science which supports global warming as "junk science." The VAST majority of people with any true scientific education know that global warming is a FACT. It is also a FACT the humans have caused the extreme pace at which the world is warming. Ask any college professor from any major university who teaches in the field of science - particularly earth sciences. (No, Rush Limbaugh has no scientific credentials.) The MAJORITY of scientists agree without any question. Go on! Do your homework.
Anonymous | 11:08 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007
Global warming is not that big of a deal. If the ice caps melt, there will be more water and more heat. If there is more water and heat, there will be more evaporation. If there is more evaporation, there will be more clouds. If there are more clouds, more sun light will be reflected back into the atmosphere which will create cooler temperatures and more snow. Global Warming... Solved...

This is the same guy who invented the Internet, who flies around in a private jet, using up valuable gas, who used untruth in making his movie. SO the idiots in Hollywood give him an oscar and more idiots in Europe give him a noble prize. His movie is accurately called, "An Inconvenient Truth" It is incovenient because it is not based on truth. The British have the guts to call a spade a spade. What political garbage. He just gores me to death.
kris | 5:59 p.m. Oct. 15, 2007
SL: I'm not a scientist but even if I were neither I nor anyone else has to show you anything; they are entitled to their opinions. Regardless of that silly demand of yours, I have done my "homework" and conclude AGW is not a crisis and Al Gore is a charlatan. Majority opinion does not instantly bestow the crown of righteousness, by the way. So muddled is your thinking. Many scientists exist who continue to question your doomy dogmatic faith. FACT: Capitalizing a word does not make it a stronger argument. You'll have to work a lot harder than that.
Demesure | 10:50 a.m. Oct. 16, 2007
The Nobel Prize is delivered by the Norvegian Parliament which currently is in the hands of a "red/green" coalition.

So it's a political prize from leftists to leftists for a global governance project, that's all. It could as well be named IGNObel prize.
