If you cannot even tell whether it is Jesus or the Lord or the Father or Al Gore doing the "answering," how can you know that "God Answers Prayers"? That is as silly as an LDS friend of mine who tried to explain the "atonement". He said he didn't understand the atonement, and neither did his prophet, but he believed it was true. Huh? How can you believe what you do not understand? That is the kind of nonsensical stuff that makes us atheists just walk away and want to ignore religious people. If you cannot explain it, you don't know it.

Help me understand what Mormons mean by the word "god". I understand that the Mormons believe in three separate gods - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Each is a god. Are there other gods? It is one thing to prove that there is one god, but many gods is even harder!

But I also understand (admittedly from an anti-Mormon friend of mine) that the Mormons insist it is heresy/sin to believe in "a god without body, parts, or passions, who sits on top of a topless throne, beyond the bounds of time and space"... But here is my question: Isn't that exactly what the Holy Ghost is? I don't get it.

Whether or not god exists depends on how you define god, and few have been able to define or concieve of god coherently. For example, LDS Theology claims the Trinitarian definition of god is incomprehensible. But they put forward a definition of multiple gods: The Father (Elohim), the Son (Jehovah, aka Jesus), and the Holy Ghost (aka Michael, the Archangel). And yet various scriptures show confusion among these three, including calling Jesus "the Father," saying that all three are "one", and Joseph Smith praying TO Jesus (which LDS are not supposed to do). In fact, the Lectures on Faith were ripped out of the Mormon canon (where it had been for almost 90 years) because Lecture 5th gives a muddled Trinitarian defintion of god (including the idea that the Holy Ghost is the "shared mind" of the Father and the Son). Beyond LDS theology, whatever you call the "creator" or the "unmoved mover" or "providence" counts as "god," even if that is the Big Bang, or Nature, or the Force (ala Star Wars). Does "god" exist? Sure, but who cares unless we can agree on a definition?!

Dear curious.
Mormons only believe there is one god throughout the entire universe. We do not believe that Jesus ( the son) is a god. He is one of us, gods children. But heavenly father sent him to earth to bring the truth to all of gods children. And also the holy ghost is more of a concience.( sorry i can't spell) God has a bosy like us. We believe that we were made in the image of god. We have a body so therefore he has a body.
