am thankful Elder Cook is called as the new member of the 12 apostles of the church. Like Pres. Erying he is also called of God and foreordain as an apostle of our day.

am thankful that he was able to served in my counry here in the Philippines as one of our area authority before. I know that together with my fellow Filipino saints were glad and proud of him.

I pray that he will continue and inspired my people around the world. as he work together with Pres. Hinckley and Pres. Monson.

On this, the Sunday Session of General Conference, I am greatful to my Heavenly Father that we have the true church on the earth today and that I am a member. I am also thankful for the people that He calls to lead us. Elder Cook and President Eyring are called of God and that is good enough for me. That is all that matters. This is Heavenly Father's church, and it is He who appoints people to fill the vacant positions in the church so that service may continue uninterupted. I look forward to seeing these great men magnify their callings and working along with them to further God's kingdom.

The world always questions why men were called. They always look for the diversity angle, the "when will they get a free thinker" angle, and so forth. The bottom line is that this is the one that was selected--being prepared to be where he is well in advance. He is the perfect choice.

Cook's a Californian

Here's the thing -- he lived in SFO for 33 years! He may have been born in Utah, but he chose to leave and not return. Why isn't the press more correctly calling him a Californian who was born and raised in Utah?

It's once again clear to me that inspiration takes place in the selection of our Church leaders. I look forward to continued guidance and direction from these great men called of God.

Elder Cook was my Bishop and later Stake President in San Mateo in the San Francisco Bay Area. A very warm and compassionate man of God, I think that he will be a welcome addition to the Quorum of the Twelve.

Does anyone know if his brother went to medical school after his mission? The story doesn't say.

Re:Brook

Elder Cook's Brother (Joseph) did attend the U of U Medical School after his mission to the Southern States.

When my husband and I moved to California in 1984, Elder Cook was President Cook, the stake president. Shortly after we moved here, the stake was divided and he was released. His brother was Dr. Cook, my doctor for a short time!

Dr. Joseph Cook was also my bishop, stake president, and my doctor when I lived in San Mateo.

Dr. Cook was also my physician and stake president when I lived in Northern CA. Quentin was in my ward.
Both men are very good and special men.

I might be at the other side of the globe, but when I watched the media interviews on the internet, the spirit testified to me that these two brethren were called of God. What a joyful moment!

Dr. Joseph Cook was my mom's doctor in San Mateo and he delivered me as a baby. We also share a great grandparent (it's neat to be related to an apostle--even if it is distantly!).

Does any one know where Dr. Cook is today? He too was our doctor in the 70's, our stake president with Elder Cook as his counselor. Our family agrees, they are both great men, along with their families.

I am so so excited a couple of months ago I got to sit in the Stake centre in Logan and hear from Elder Holland, now Elder Cook very blessed.
