Interesting history. Here's my question: did they have to write one of these for each apostle, since they didn't know in advance? I assume they didn't have a little tip about it...
What an example! What a wonderful man! Pres. Hinckley now has to grat men to assist him.
What a great man! What a wonderful example! How fortunate we are tht Pres. Hinckley has two such men to assist him.
That choice is devine!
Great Choice! Elder (now President) Eyring has always displayed a great sense of humility,
dignity, and knowledge of the Gospel.
I'm sure that the Lord had a hand in the selection process and is well pleased.
I'm sure the Lord is also pleased with the selection of Elder Cook and Elder Gonzalez too!!
God Bless...
Thank you for telling us what the laughter was about, we couldn't see!
Thank you for the article! I appreciate the information, the positive tone in which it is written, and am very pleased to learn more about this unique event. What a great & choice man, and a great servant of God he is and will be.
Yes, thanks for the "knighting" report, as we could not see what percipitated the laughter on TV coverage. I love ALL the goog reporting you do.
thank you for the article this is a historic day, we have a new apostle,a great leader and teacher we most listen his words like than others leaders incluiding the prophet
I KNOW THE LORD CHOSE PRESIDENT EYRING, HE WAS PREPARED TO LEAD US IN THIS LAST DAYS ALONG WITH PRESIDENT HINCKLY,AND PRESIDENT MONSON. I ALSO KNOW ELDER COOK AND ELDER GONZALEZ WILL DO A GREAT JOB IN THEIR CALLINGS. I AM VERY HAPPY FOR THEM
I've always been touched by Elder Eyring's way of teaching. When I was first coming back to the church, my home teacher played a tape of a talk Elder Eyring gave at BYU - I have never forgotten the feelings I felt when hearing his inspired words.
May God continue to bless our Church leaders. Especially at this time Elder Wirthlin.
President Eyring has been on my mind for weeks, beleiving he would be the one to take President Faust's place. He is one of the most profound speakers and spiritual leader the church has. I always feel the spirit profoundly when he speaks. For years he has been my favorite speaker at general conference. I believe my inspiration was more than just wishful thinking. How blessed we are in a world filled with evil.
Thanks for the photo of the "knighting" cane joke.
I was in the car listening, and didn't see it. The smile of Pres. Eyring was worth finding this story. I am worried about E. Wirthlin. I could hear the change in his voice. Hurried, and not as stable.
Thanks for reporting why the audience was laughing after the new GAs took their seats. I missed it.
I knew President Eyring would be a GA some day after having been a student on the Ricks College campus where President Eyring was the president. I grew to love that man. I saw him interact with the students. He enjoyed and loved them. He even taught classes at the college. He talked on the student's level, not above them. What a great, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, humble, personable man.
I have always been touched by President Eyring and his humility and tenderness as he speaks/spoke. He will be a great leader and bring much spirituality to his calling in the First Presidency. He has been prepared and now ready to take charge of his new calling. God bless him in his role as second counselor. I love his comment [he got the desire of his heart in wanting] to be like President James E Faust when he "grew" up. regarding President Faust--he was another role model for us all to cherish his memory, service to the Lord, the Church and his family.
Comment to Arc -- I too am worried about Elder Worthlin. We were watching Conference on the television, and saw him speak. He was physically weak and had to be supported, starting about half way through his talk. He appeared to be very shaky, and my husband and I were concerned that he would collapse. I fear tht he will not be with us much longer on this side of the veil. I know I'm being selfish, but I don't want to lose him.
Thank you so much for the picture of the prophet and President Eyring. We heard the laughter, but our satelite feed went out and didn't get to see why everyone was laughing! That just goes to show that our prophet has a great sense of humor! I love that about him. President Eyring has a smile that erases all doubt and fear from all that he embraces with it. I look forward to getting to know him better and seeing how his influence furthers the work that our prophet will give him, and how his presence will bring others to Christ. He is a very passionate and sensitive man. I got that from watching the press conference after the morning session and seeing his emotions come out as he spole about his life and his fellow men. I love him already! Elder Cook to is a great man and a strong man to fill the spot left by President Eyring. He is a strong man and a man of few words from what I saw, but the words he does speak are very powerful and direct. That is great!
I also am a Ricks College grad and Eyring was my president. He's always held a special place in my heart above the other apostles. I felt that he really reaches me in his messages, he seems to understand how an average person in the church feels and trys to do their best. I am so happy he has been called. I feel a personal connection to him.
