Chaffetz lives in 2nd District

Since Chaffetz lives in the 2nd District, things that affect the 2nd District
will affect him and his priorities will be toward that district. I don't
want a rep that lives outside our district and I really don't want some
power hungry politicians representing me in office. Cannon isn't a power
hungry guy, he's just doing his job representing us. His office has helped
me numerous times with everything from getting my passport on time to helping a
friend in a foreign country. I'm for keeping a constant, good man in
office.

Chaffetz might meet all the requirements but this is still too fishy for me. Why
sell out someone that's doing a good job for someone that's doing this
for ego purposes?

It's a non-issue. Read the article. Chaffetz lived in the 3rd District
until they re-drew the boundaries in 2001. And when they redraw them again in
2010 he'll be right back in the 3rd. It's not like he moved out of the
District. If Cannon supporters try to make hay out of this they'll be
making a serious mistake.

If you think voters agree with you that Cannon is "doing a good job" then you need to get out more. It's not that Cannon has done nothing good. He set his priorities and he has worked toward them. But they don't reflect my priorities.
I wish he wouldn't defend earmarks. I wish he wouldn't spend the bulk of his political capital fighting the wrong battle on immigration. I wish he didn't constantly make comments that embarrass us. And I wish there weren't so many ethical questions surrounding his interactions with his brother (the guy who alienated tons of us from the Republican Party).
It's time for a new set of priorities. And frankly, I like the priorities Chaffetz seems to be setting. Fiscal discipline has become a four-letter word in Washington - and we need to change that.

I have traditionally been an independent. When I got interested in politics I
joined the Republican Party partly because of ideology, but also because that is
the only way you can truly choose who will be on the ballot. I was annoyed when
I got gerrymandered out of the 2nd District into the 3rd District and I've
been annoyed at the job Cannon has done in his last two terms.
Iron - "fishy"??? "sell-out"??? "ego"??? Could you be more transparent in your position of Cannon-love? Cannon has been ineffectual and his speeches at convention have had no substance. That's why Jacob edged him out in the vote at last convention. It isn't a "sell-out" and Cannon isn't doing a "good job", his performance is mediocre at best, it's just time for a change.

I'm currently a State Delegate in the 3rd District (hoping to continue
after March) and I do have a problem with someone representing my district who
doesn't live in it.
The North end of Utah county IS NOT Provo / Orem / South our demographics are even completely different. The Provo school district has declining enrollments while the Alpine district is Booming. Tax implications are different, needs are different, I want someone who LIVES in my district representing me.

Democracy only works when you vote out the incumbent. Period.
Cannon has been in for way too long. Time for a change.
If Canon had been an outstanding representative.. I would probably make an exception.. but he's been just a tag along, go along, do what your told by the big guys congressman. NOT representative of his constituents. Get rid of him.

I actually AM a Cannon-supporter and I have reason why. I think that he has been
given a bad wrap by much of the media over the past few years.
It's hard to say that he has been ineffective. Are you aware that he has passed more sponsored legislation than any other Rep in the history of the state? Even more than Jim Hansen who was in office for 22 years. Chris is respected and effective.
Jacob edged Chris out at the convention b/c he took a conventient position on the immigration issue. It was easy to say, "amnesty, amnesty" and not have to back it up or qualify it. That was Jacob's MO.
Change means NO seniority and EVERYTHING in DC happens b/c of committee assignments. Chris is the ranking Member on the Judiciary and only the 3rd Member on the history of Utah to get such a high ranking. Don't sell that - it only hurts us.

I'd rather have someone who represents the views of the district (whether they live in it or not) than what we've had for toooooo many years! Seniority in the hands of Cannon hasn't served us well.

Iron, your right about Jacob and the immigration issue. He didn't
understand the issue, and was nothing more than a Cannon clone. There was no
reason to change for that issue alone. Cannon has kept a low profile on the
immigration issue for the past two years, but he is a sponsor of the AgJobs Bill
(H.R.1419) which shows he is still pro-amnesty for illegal aliens. The leopard
doesn't change his spots. In Cannon's case seniority is a waste for
Utah and bad for the United States.

Iron is most likely on the Cannon payroll. Rarely do you find a such passionate
defense of Cannon. And actually Lamar Smith (R-Tx) is the current ranking
republican member of the Judicary committee.

Meant to say that he's the ranking member on a Sub of Judiciary.
I'm not an anyone's payroll but have been a supporter b/c I have spent time with Mr. Cannon. No one is going to represent you better than you. You're not going to agree with someone all the time but it's about give and take.
