Kudos to the officers alert and noticing the stolen car! Glad to see their good work! But the officer doing the shooting needs a refresher course. His/her aim was too low! Now Utah has to foot the medical bill. Funeral costs would have been much less for this felon.
Thanks... | 3:59 a.m. Sept. 30, 2007
To the men and women who risk their lives to keep us safe. I only hope that this little forray by two dangerous felons has taught the Utah state penal system a lesson about hardened criminals - that they truly cannot be trusted and must be kept under high security conditions. Hopefully, the families of the murdered victim can now breathe a bit easier knowing that these two perps are back in custody.

Thanks for a job well done. We can all relax a little more. I know that you were just doing your job.....but we appreciate you doing YOUR job correctly...not like Daggett County.

Just some more illegals "doing the jobs Americans won't do"??? Since these are already convicted felons, it should be a matter of record if they are indeed illegals, or not. The note that authorities were "watching the border in case they tried to enter Mexico" suggest that they are. The Deseret News has an obligation to print the full story and not omit parts to be politically correct- like the Tribune does.
This case is more evidence we need to control our borders NOT to stop the flow of illegas intent on doing harm.
If a Mexican thug can get across so easily, so can an Islamic terrorist bent on much more horrific crimes.
Kudos to the 72 year old robbery victim and the Wyoming cops!

That is why capital punishment is a good idea if someone was put to death soon a guilty person than there is a guarantee they won't escape and murder again. Without that there is no guarantee and they can again do there evil deeds. Think of those evil people from texas that escaped made it more dangerous to society.

a big thank you to all the law enfocement that was involved in this effort to keeping stupid people off the streets.
They were not illegals | 10:44 a.m. Sept. 30, 2007
John, Gallegos was third generation Utahn.

but thanks for playing the race card!

By the way, did you know that our prisons are predominantly full with full-blooded Genuine Americans??

Thats a really ignorant comment an obviously you misinterpreted the reason to watch the border more closely. Mexico has some tougher extradition clauses soif bad guys get there its harder for them to face the US system.

I've got to agree with the comment about the death penalty. Letting murderers live creates danger for everyone.

Gallegos may have been 3rd generation American, but Diaz is not. He IS an illegal and has been deported at least once previously.

The idea that a certain percentage of illegal immigrants commit felonies in the U.S. is a statistical fact not a bigoted statement. So, if we put the clamps on illegal immigration we're going to have less crime. It only makes sense to know who's in our country, and what kind of people they are.

I hope that just because these two sweethearts were caught, that everything that happened in Daggett County won't be swept under the rug. Good job Sweetwater County. It seemed as if it were you running the show for Daggett all along. Thanks for being on the ball.

You people and illegals. Maybe Mexico and the rest of Central America are just now paying us back for the many years of illegal criminals we sent running to our southern neighbors. I can't stop thinking that Australia is where England sent the undesirables, and look at it today. Get off your racial attitude and do something constructive and that makes sense. Stop bahling about so called illegals.

Everyone needs to remember, they are Illegals because they came to this country Illegally. If they were willing to break the law to get here, the Illegals will be more willing to break other laws. All the others that followed the law to get here, will uphold the law because they are the ones who work to harder to get here.

Soooo, why escape from prison if you are only going to go to Wyoming?

Would have been nice to have some warning about the chase....since the shooting took place just outside my back fence. (I mean REALLY!) Go back to the shoot to kill policy - at least we will know where to find the bullet!

I'm just curious. Were either of these knuckleheads American citizens?
