You got my vote. Excellent goals; anything to help with fixed incomes and to help the West side thrive is worth it. We need your type of thinking and doing in our neighborhoods.

Becker on the Hill seemed to want to spend more time shaming the Republicans than actually pushing through real progressive issues. If this was an election for a policy-wonk for a think tank, there is no doubt Becker would be the man for the job.

Buhler, always the "reasonable guy", points to his past to tell us what he'd bring in the future and does the same with his opponent. I wish there was more of this in politics- I expect to be given reasons to vote for someone and this does that exactly. I'll definitely keep in mind both candidate's records when I vote-- so far, Buhler is impressing me more!

Well of course Buhler has passed much more legislation than Becker has, the vast majority of the Utah state legislature is Republican. It is much easier for a Reublican like Buhler to get things passed than it is for someone in such a minority position as was Becker. The fact of the matter is, in Salt Lake City, Republicans are the minority and so Becker will be fine in this race. I don't know what those bills are that Buhler got passed, but knowing that he is a Republican, many of them may not be to the liking of many SLC residents, so this campaigning may come back to bit him in the bud.

Well, it was nice to have a civil mayoral campaign for a while, anyway. Calling yourself a "doer" is fine. But calling your opponent a "dreamer" is pejorative and negative. Looks like Buhler's gonna take the low road in the general election.

Other Democrats have gotten legislation passed - David Litvack got hates crimes passed. So, the excuse that Becker gives doesn't hold water for me.

Yeah, he's a "doer!" The question is, "Who is he doing?" And if elected will he "DO" all of us!!!! I've done been done and don't want to be "done" again! That last guy, can't remember his name, he did us all regularly!!!!

Litvack was able to pass hate crimes after upwards of ten years trying to get it pushed through the Legislature...and even then it was a very close vote.

Anyone who thinks that it is just as easy for a Democrat to push through legislation as a Republican is flat out fooling themselves.

I am glad to see that Dave "I'm a nice guy" Buhler is sending out the opening salvo of cheap shots.

Crich: It is so telling that you find the term "dreamer" to be pejorative. It's not a negative word, rather it is a synonym of Becker's own campaign buzz word "planner."

I would much rather have actual results than more than rhetoric about a great american city, blah blah blah.

I don't see how comparing records is a "cheap shot" or taking the "low road." If we can't look at their records, what can we look at? The fact is, Becker has not been a highly effective legislator.

Dave "Nice Guy" Buhler has finally taken off the gloves!! how exciting!

I don't want the Utah Legislature controlling my city and I think Buhler has shown that if he were to win, the Mayor's Office will be just that: a sub-branch of the state government.

Thankfully, Becker's going to win.

I was glad to see something start to happen in this race. Everything I'd read since the primary sounded like their views were the same. I want to know how they compare because I'm sure they aren't that similar. I think the effectiveness of legislative representation is important, since they both have experience there. The ratio between their accomplishments there was very interesting. I'm now leaning to Buhler. It would be good to take care of the city's problems. Looking at their records isn't negative. We need to know who we're voting for!

Mr. Becker, our senator, rarely attended the neighborhood council meetings in the poor areas of the city. When he did attended our council meeting it was for only a few minutes. How could Mr. Becker effectively represent the needs of the community-at-large, when he has no understanding of segments of the community.

1) Ralph is a Representative, not a Senator.
2) Ralph's legislative district does not stretch beyond I-15, so up until this race he would have no reason to attend meetings outside his constituents (it is the same reason he does not attend Draper community council meetings).
3) Ralph has one of the most comprehensive plans for the city that I have ever seen, including the West Side. You may not like it, but it is naive to say that he has no understanding of the city on the whole.

Mayor Becker Will Save Us | 8:01 p.m. Oct. 7, 2007

Buhler turned down an invitation to speak at the recent National Conversation on Climate Action in SLC.

Becker was there with Corroon and the Mayors of Park City (Dana Williams) and Moab.

Mayors nation wide are driving sustainable planning, renewables and air quality.

I was shocked to here Bugler declined the invitation to be on stage with the greatest mayors in Utah.

And Rocky wasn't there, so that no excuse.
