Wow. This article is even more obsequious and less researched than the Trib's. I'm disappointed, if not surprised. Is this just a reprint of a press statement from the campaign? In truth, Whitaker's was #2 of a field of 138, but you can see that for yourself at Jumpcut.com and read a more telling story at Slate.com. Romney may know how to make his base happy, but his campaign doesn't know much about how to run a democratic election.

To be recognized as a contest participant, one must follow the rules. 129 people did that. I could win Wimbledon if I removed the net and ignored the boundaries.

What a good experience this must have been for Whitaker, and for everyone else who participated. Toby, don't get your panties in a twist.

Toby, I don't know what you're talking about. I checked the videos at the jumpcut site several times during the contest, and Whitaker's had something like 20 more "loves"(people saying they liked the ad) than anybody else in the contest, right up to the last day of the contest submission period. In my opinion, his was the only ad good enough to put on television.

Whitaker's ad gives you a wonderful sense of optimism, and makes you believe this country has a future. There's a visceral power to it that's not equaled by any other Romney ad I've seen, except the one called "Change Begins with Us", where Romney talks directly to the Republican voter, saying "We can't be like Democrats a party of big spending. We can't pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration." Both ads are effective because they speak to your deepest feelings about what it means to be an American and a Republican.

I wonder if this guy waffles his beliefs as well?

Mitt Romney is a liberal and we will bury him.

Whitaker's ad is exactly that, advertising, that was the goal and he accomplished the goal set before him exceptionally, as for political beliefs to each there own. Everyone has an opinion be it good or bad. I'm sorry the conservative Republican choose to carry a shovel. We can have a bury him attitude or we can get in there and fix whats wrong,

Romney's definitely not a liberal. What's liberal about campaigning for a strong military, strong economy, and strong families? What's liberal about promoting marriage before children, a federal marriage amendment, tax cuts, a more efficient government, increased military spending, and border security?

Overall, Mitt Romney is more conservative than President Bush, who for some reason does not seem to be opposed to illegal immigration, although he has done many other things well.
