"Double hubs" won't work

It's just not possible. A hub airport takes up a VAST amount of airspace, 30 - 90 miles in all directions.

Look at the Los Angeles area for an example of a multiple-hub system. LAX, John Wayne, Long Beach and Ontario all compete for airspace, in a dogfight which has been going on for decades.

Here in Utah, we are trapped by geography -- all traffic must run in three north-south corridors. The major one is the Ogden-SLC-Provo valleys, where most traffic is now. The other two potential tracks are Rush Valley-Tooele Valley and Heber City-Coalville. Using either of these would require building a very expensive new airport.

The only possible solution in this end of Utah would be Wendover (ENV). This might actually work -- ENV is a great field with excellent flight patterns around it -- but it would require frequent feeder flights between SLC and ENV, and opening up a big chunk of the Lucin Military Operations Areas.

If it is snowing in Salt Lake, then it is probably snowing in Provo.

Think Big!

As long as you're dreaming, why stop at two?

Wake up, the Stapleton air port is gone.
