Mayor Anderson seems to forget that Councilwoman Saxton was elected to represent members of her district in matters before the City.

While Rocky reminds Nancy that she is a part of the legislative branch, he simultaneously forgets that that branch has oversight authority over his administration. It is entirely appropriate for City Council members to convey relevant data to administration employees - and to remind those employees of the ordinances passed by the Council.

Anderson's latest tantrum smacks of playground tactics.

Wow, I'm kinda proud of Nancy Saxton on this one. I would only hope my city councilperson would do these things.

Rocky admonishing someone for stepping out side their authority and jurisdiction is funny. I guess the mayor doesnt see himself in this context after all he seems more concerned with US foreign policy then he does with the workings of his city.

Mr. Bean should just move that house to old Magna and live in it. It would fit right in. No one would care.
What is Rocky Thinking | 11:56 a.m. Sept. 26, 2007
This is a no win situation for him. It is obvious that this property is a terrible eye sore and all that Saxton is doing is supporting those who elected her by doing what she did. Did Rocky think in any way that this would come out positive for him?
Do I have to agree with Rocky? | 12:50 p.m. Sept. 26, 2007
As much as it pains me Rocky is correct on this issue. Saxton, who I agree must represent the interests of her constituents, overstepped her authority when she directed the official to have a zero tolerance.

Now, if she had made it clear that as a CITIZEN she wants the city to maintain a zero tolerance toward the owner then everything would be fine. However, when she said as a council member she wants the city's administration to maintain a zero tolerance she is well outside of her authority.

By directing anyone from the city's administration to conduct the city's business in a manner that Saxon BELIEVES is correct violates the basic separation of the branches of government. Saxon must provide the requirements and nothing more. It is the responsibility of the administration to enforce the provisions set forth by the council.

Seems as if the whole governing process for the city is broken, but you don't have to dig very far in any department at any level of government to make this discovery. The problem always starts with the rotting head. The mayor is embarrassed that his micro managed planning staff did nothing about this nightmare. Sexton should know by now that Rocky has the rule book memorized, because that is what is important to be an effective lawyer. Too bad Rocky didn't take the high road and just solve the problem, but if you go around doing that then he might be out of a job. What I want to know is what is assessed property tax for that particular property?

I highly doubt Nancy Saxton ordered anything. I'm sure she reminded Goff of the rules he is governed by when it comes to zoning ordinances and good for her. The planning and zoning office is not doing their job enforcing ordinances, which ends up pitting neighbor against neighbor in this situation and several others like it throughout Salt Lake City. If someone does not check this office soon, the ordinances the city officials like Saxton have worked to put in place are just going to be run a muck behind the cry of "good customer service". I hope articles like this continue to shed light on the situation.
