Donald, as polite as I can be, I agree. I have been accuses of being too harsh so I will work on my tone.
I campaigned for the Governor, worked hard to get him elected. I am not one of the right-wing but instead somewhere between moderate and conservative.
That being said, I have been shocked by his positioning on some key issues. And at times his seeming both sides of an issue. His environmental stand has been the last straw for me. I can no longer support him though far more important than that, I desperately want to ensure we do not implement some of his very failed proposals. They will cost our state for generations to come!
"POLITICALLY CORRECT"
Definition - Any position I disagree with.
Sorry Donald, that's what your letter sounds like to me. It seems that based on the heat the governor has taken for those positions he has been politically INCORRECT amongst the voters of Utah - at least the ones with the loudest voice.
Governor Huntsman has vision that many in has party cannot see. He looks decades into the future, whereas most politicians can't see past the next election.
Governor Huntsman is Utah's governor. In Utah, typical politicians try to please two groups: their voters and their sources of money. Huntsman is not a typical Utah politician. Utahns don't agree with his energy/environmental stand (although it's what's best for them and for their children), and he doesn't seem to need any of the groups that want to give him money so he'll support their ideals.
Keep up the good work, governor.
I couldn't agree more with the Donald and James. I am disappointed nearly weekly by his jumping on some other issue before he takes time to think. I just wonder if wisdom and good judgement are qualities he lacks, or if he is just in such a hurry to be the star on every issue that he fails to think through these maters.
Donald: amen, brother.
He is disappointment #1. I nearly choked when he was kissing up to Schwarzenegger so embarrassingly over the environmental pact recently. The main benefit from that deal for him is getting his "smiling Jon Huntsman" photo with the Governator. Never a thought to the actual ramifications.
He has done some good things, and credit must be given where due. But so often real leadership is lacking and all I see is him taking the next opportunity to flex his eyebrows up and down giving his next speech wherever he's appearing. Oh brother.
Lamonte,
By your tone of your post, it sounds like a whiner. Can you please address the issue. In your post you provide NOTHING to rebutt Donald position. Typical Democrat garbage (see can do the same thing).
Tim,
I not sure where you get your information, Governor Huntsman cares little about the future. He is jumping on a bandwagon to further his political career. It nice, that he talks about Global warming and all, but what has he done to decress the smog in SL valley alone. There is a simple solution to reducing the smog, it called Tracffic light control. How much time do we emit stuff waiting for hte light to change, then go a couple of blocks later and have to wait again.
The problem here is that the governor doesn't have to say what people want to hear. He doesn't need the job or the grief. He would run for Senate except that the current two occupants (who specialize in saying what people want to hear)will hang on until they have to be carried out. They don't have another life to return to.
LB,
neither does Huntsman, his father sold the family business.
Huntsmans is the worse governor since bangerter. He does very little for the employees of the state (reduced benifits, slow to give raises, quick to make budget cuts).
The problem for huntsman is the simple fact he does not always look at the broad picture.
Floyd - the simple premise of my post was that whenever someone disagrees with someone else's position they sarcastically refer to it as "politically correct" associating political correctness with taking the easy way out or giving in to political pressure. In the case of Utah and the folks that have written here and elsewhere, it seems that Governor Huntsman's position are NOT politically correct but rather they are politically incorrect because they go against the grain of the majority of the citizens.
I think that addresses Donald's issue exactly. I hope that is simple enough for you.
Ditto Donald! I voted for this Gov but never again.
Poltically correctness is inreference to the refusal to talk about certain subjects openly. The fact that Huntsman incurs the wrath of voters on various subjects does not make it either politically correct or not. That is by traditional usage of the term. And example would be the hestitation most would have to discussing the validity of say the Bell Curve. Most people, agree or not, will not even talk about the subject.
I do not see any long term vision in Huntsman's plan. I do see long term pain, and for gains that are so unlikely to happen. So we lose tens of thousands of jobs, billions in economy and for what? Huntsman gets to pick up environmental friendly votes in the next election? I hope he does, because he has lost many, many rank and file Republican votes. This morning I spoke with my legislator and asked about this issue. He told me he can only count on one hand the number of legislators that support the Governor anymore. And I know we like to bash legislators. They still win elections and represent the majority of those who vote. Huntsman has blown this one!
I also am highly dissapointed with Huntsman. However as long as he keeps the educational interests in Utah happy he will suceed and be reelected as often as he likes. He should really read Walter Williams column of 9/26 {today} and learn real facts about so called "Global Warming" which is another hollywood and liberal cause cleb with little or no fact behind it. People cannot effect this planet by their actions a hundredth as much as Nature can and does. We are like ants looking up an elephant and trying to effect it's actions.
that's what you get for blindly voting for whatever white republican the Utah GOP throws at you.
I voted for him too and have been very disappointed. He is wishy-washy and lacks any backbone at all. I don't think he has ever had to develop character because he's always been given everything. Character is developed through challenges in life.
Wait a minute! As an independent voter, I could see that the Republicans were stampeding to Huntsman for no reason based on ideology.
Why couldn't you?
There were truer Republican candidates who threw their hats in the ring. Even in the General Election, Matheson had better credentials and experience. Matheson was a gentleman in the debates. As a law professor, he was more intelligent and articulate. His philosophy was similiar to many Utahns and even to Huntsman's worldview. But he got slammed in the election.
Why?
He wasn't anointed by the Republican party.
So, all you Republicans out there, it is YOUR fault.
Thanks for electing a Democrat!
Wow, I thought I was the only one that disapproved of Gov. Huntsman. I however was not fooled by the Huntsman name or the nominee of the Republican Party. Even though I support republican philosophy, I could see that Huntsman didn't and voted for Matheson.
My real problem with him is that he has helped Utah become a sanctuary state. He has made no effort to support the enforcement (little as it is) of federal immigration laws. He has even helped suppress wages in education by helping several districts hire Mexican teachers rather than increase wages enough to attract teachers from other states and professions. Also, do you remember how much effort he made to cozy up to President Fox of Mexico?
As for future ambition, Hatch will retire in 2012 the end of Huntsman's second term. What do you think his ambition is?
Stewart, you are the eternal optimist (I say that tongue in cheek.) A couple years ago I listened to a couple legislators talking about future politics. Hatch came up, one speculated that Hatch would retire soon. The other stated that he had asked Senator Hatch when he was going to retire. He said the response was "that he planned to die in the Senate with his boots on." What ever the boots thing means, I don't see him retiring in 2012. I see him lasting like Strom Thurmond did.
And Mark is completely right about it being our fault. As Rank and File we have made some questionable decisions. We can't blame the Democrats for this. It is our mess to clean up.
Huntsman is a member of the CFR. That is who he follows. Not Utahns and not big business. CFR. They think they are the elite of the world-better than all you lowly peasants!
Machone,
Walter Williams doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. Apparently he can find some quotations to support his view but he can't be troubled with reading any actual research on global warming. There are links between carbon dioxide and warming and they appear to differ now from what they did in the past when we entered our interglacial periods. I'd declare him a fool, but his article is calculated. He may well even no better, but his arguments are made for conservatives like you who have something specific they want to hear and can't be troubled with actual data.
Question:
If Huntsman is trying to become Senator for Utah, then why all these decisions that so many people in Utah don't like (like his take on the environment)? You'd think he'd be trying to do what's most popular in this state. Think about it...
