It seems that some political leaders need to be better informed about the consequences of meaningless actions.

Conservation is good, but is not the answer in the energy consuming economy of today, clean electrical production and delivery is. A better demonstration would have been a blackout, or a rolling brownout on a warm July evening to show what would happen if there is not enough reserve electrical power to meet demand. As for global warming, now is the time to take a logical, rather than a paranoid look at nuclear power. With enough electrical power, we could begin to shift our automobiles to plug-in electrics, reducing dependency on imported oil, in my opinion.
