I cannot find one sympathic bone in my body for Jeffs. He and others have lead the FLDS down a path of economic and spiritual destruction. He deserves a few decades in jail.

Cathy

When will the state of Utah step up to the plate and change the laws...This is nothing but a PEDOPHILE FANTASY LAND

Heidi

I don't think you should ever have to LEARN to love the person you are ALREADY married to! Don't you love them first! I also think that it is DISGUSTING that this girls parents would not step up and defend her! I don't understand this religion where you HAVE to do what someone tells you! We have freedom of choice and should never be FORCED to do anything!

Fred

Is this really all they could get on that nit-wit? Seriously! Isn't it illegal to prevent women from becoming educated beyond the 8th grade? It should be! Isn't it illegal to take money from everyone in the group and ride around in an expensive SUV while evading the law? What about expelling teen boys so the old men can take more young wives? Aren't we all sick to death of this charlatan and the way most of America thinks he's in charge of "that temple in Salt Lake" and "The Mormon Tabernacle Choir." Most important of all, can any of us do anything to save these children from lives of brainwashing and servitude to that false profit? And what about their local "law enforcement" that refuses to obey federal or state law? It's all just sick and wrong on so many levels. Help them, Jesus. You need to come down and cleanse things again.

First of all, arranged marriage has to be tough since the whole idea of getting married so because you actually love someone. 2nd, it was arranged between cousins! Big Red Flag there! Who wouldnt want to get out of that marriage!

Todd

It should be Utah law that you can not get married until your 18 without a judges approval.

girl

Why isn't the cousin/husband being charge with rape?

DougS

I doubt that would have helped this girl. They'd have just performed a religious ceremony and called it good.

christine

How can people be so brainwashed to live like this?
What tactics did Warren use to keep people in line?

Very Good Contributions

All these are such good points. The laws need to toughen up on these things. Any "loop-holes" in the law need fixed! Hopefully this case and some of the other cases we've heard of will help to get it fixed.

John

This case is a clear case of the prosecutor over-charging. Instead of going for a lesser charge they are trying to put him away for life. Don't be surprised if Jeffs walks out of that court room a free man.

What the hell?

Have they never heard of "Statutory Rape?" What's wrong with this picture?

Why?

I ask again, why isn't the husband charged with rape. Does anyone have any clue as to why Washington county prosecutors did not do this? I agree that Jeffs and his followers are sick individuals but if I was on that jury I would want to know how someone can be charged as an accomplice to rape without anyone being charged with rape!

look to your own book

I hope this isn't going to taken as mormon bashing bc it's really not. If you're wondering how Jeff's was able to do all of this, look at the Mormon church. Many of it's fundamental teachings are the same, and Jeff's (and many before him) have just taken them to the ultimate extreme. Salvation being taken away if you don't obey, or join in plural marriage, or yada yada yada. Religionm whether right or wrong, uses scare tactics, and especially if it's all you've ever known you're amazingly susceptible to them.

Jeffs on YouTube

At the trial, I was loaning Jeffs audio's to the TV media and press. If you want to hear his teachings, I will try to get up several hours over the next few weeks. I am including audio from Utah DFS and the Arizona Attorney Generals Office. Activist reached out to local government and got the door slammed in our faces. How could a victim of handled the same rejection? Addressing this issue was tough for someone who knew the law!

Accused of religious bashing, putting dialog, including dialog with the church on line may offer better reasons for why child advocates are bitter in Utah. Go look up video's by fincenMIB and tell us why agencies chose to turn a blind eye!

Okay, so when I watch "Dateline: To catch a Predator" and they are arresting all these men who "have come to the house with the intent of having sex with a 14 year old",....I have a hard time figuring out why the FLDS can get away with it! Where is the Dateline investigation on this one?

Your posts are correct, there are so many other things that Prosecutors could get Jeffs on. What about monumental TAX EVASION, and the DEFRAUDING of the Public welfare system? Have you ever noticed in Colorado City that the houses all have one 'unfinished' side? This is so they won't have to pay property taxes b/c it's 'unfinished property'. And these men, yes their first wife is a legal wife. But all of these subsequent wives are spiritual wives, and therefore they each qualify COLLECT WELFARE as a "single mom with many kids." You see hoards of them at Wal*Mart in St.George the day their welfare checks come in. Several carts piled high, and we pay for it!
The whole thing really makes me mad. Their theory is "let the people of the Devil pay to support the people of God". Where is the Accountability?

open-minded

Its definately wrong that a 14 yr old was married to a 19 yr old & especially between cousins. Arranged marriages are apart of some peoples culture and religion.. we as americans belive in freedom, it's not our decision to choose what people should belive in... people have a right to choose for themselves...

Bonnie

The FLDS, especially under Warren Jeffs, carries out extreme measures against those in the group that defy the "prophet." Whole families can be forced from homes because this group owned all land and homes in its areas for a long time and the members agree to that arrangement when they occupy a dwelling or add onto it, etc. Warren became good at throwing out adult men who disagreed with him, giving their wives and kids to men who kowtowed in all things. He has kicked out over a thousand minors for various normal teen activities. such as looking at movies, talking to the opposite gender, wearing short sleeves, incredible as it all seems. People have been forced from their jobs if the companies were owned by the FLDS and an employee had a problem with their practices, Jeffs, whatever.

Phil

Fredrick, you don't know the background to the situation when you make a comment like that. This church's problems started with the mess Rulon created in his last years of his life, not Warren. Anyway, where is the tolerence for people religious and cultural freedom? Do we as americans have the right to tell everybody how they have to live there lives. Ironic, because itsn't the reason most of the people who moved here did it because of intolence.

m

I would give anything to be on that jury right now.
