I say clean sweep, bring in some professionals or something.

Someone needs to make a documentary about Eagle Mountain, so we can all find out what elements make up the perfect storm of insanity that has converged there.

Since Dave died Linn has had trouble. I am sorry to see this happen to a once great lady. I hope she gets a good lawyer.

It must be politicalosis, a common disease that seems to be found only among elected officials in Eagle Mountain. Examples thus far, one mayor kidnaps himself, former council member steals a paraglider, council member receives $10,000, someone else (Mayor?) gets reimbursed mileage or something like that for personal expenses. When will it stop?
idiots | 8:58 a.m. Sept. 15, 2007
It was a loan from someone in a person troubled time... she paid it back to him. Get over it!
Anonymous | 9:09 a.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Every leader in every growing city is paid off by developers! Only in Eagle Mountain are they dumb enought to get caught, again, and again, and..
From the outside | 9:17 a.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Eagle Mountain seems to be a convergence of ultra-right wing pro-business conservatives, anti-government militia, McMansions surrounded by junkyards, kids running amok.....and one authorized religion.

What's to go wrong?
SpiderPig | 9:47 a.m. Sept. 15, 2007
What is the deal with Eagle Mountain? Is everyone there corrupt? How many mayors has this town had? How may councilman have had problems? This is supposed to be Utah County. I've been told it is the chosen valley because everyone lives righteously. I guess that is all the myopic, narrow-minded, BYU-educated people trying to justify their behaviors. Maybe people in the bubble should try living in SLC county so they care learn how to behave and follow the laws of the land.
Something in the water | 10:02 a.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Where does the water supply for Eagle Mountain come from? I's thinks it comes from the old runoff from Geneva
FormerResident | 12:18 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Interesting how information "came to light" while Linn was Mayor Pro Tem. Because during that time she put Public Works Director and former Walden side-kick Mike Wren on paid administrative leave over ethics issues. Yeah, Lifferth was doing the right thing alright. Doing what Walden instructed him to do. You people that vote for Lifferth, Jackson, et al will get what you deserve in the end.

Now....remind me again, Where is Eagle Mountain located? .......Is it east or west of Payton Place?

There are very few corrupt people out here. And not everyone is LDS. Maybe it's time to start attacking every corrupt thing that happens in Orem or Provo because there sure is a lot more of that going on in those cities!!!
DBG | 1:47 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
@FormerResident

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that Lifferth was a puppet to Walden?

Lifferth is what you will term Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Read his blog and it's all about Lifferth. It has nothing to do with Walden telling him what to do. Lifferth is just being Lifferth. May I remind you that Lifferth tried to take claim that he was the one who convinced Olsen to step down? Sheesh, your logic of "Waldenite against Waldenite" is laughable.

While it was a loan, who was the loan paid to? There is a fine line between being paid to an elected person or to their family member. The story doesn't say. I'm not trying to defend Strouse but at least hear her side of the story.
EM lover | 2:32 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Linn just voted to overturn a bad contract and try to find some way to have Walden accountable for his promises to the city. She was the only one who had the balls to do it. Walden is giving retribution.

Strouse did something stupid with this "loan". But Linn Strouse has progressed into a smart and great council person for the city of EM. I'd be sad to see her go.

And how do we have evidence that Lifferth is a puppet to anyone? The man is simply not bright enough to do anything calculating on his own. God help us if Jackson flirts her way into office. Then we'd have Olsen Lite.
DBG | 3:40 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
@EM lover

No, Lifferth isn't bright, and neither are people who have NPD. But because of his personality, he will go after ANYTHING that he can boast he did it and claim credit. It has nothing to do whether he was a puppet or not. If Walden was so concerned about the "reporting" why didn't he just do it himself?
ConnectDots | 3:54 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
The reason for the idiocrity is and has stemmed by one entiy's presence. What do all these mayors, and city council people have in common? Why does it seem like there is a Peyton Place here?

One Answer: John Walden, the city's founder and major developer. He has been the one threatening, the one conniving, the one ignoring signed city contracts.

It is his brand of doing business that he brought from Florida to a back water place where they used to shoot jack rabbits. Why is it that those who stand in his way find themselves being criminally investigated? And those who haven't get cleared? (Lifferth and Jackson)

Follow the money, if you take the total 22,000 homes Walden can legally build on his 8,000 acres here (7,000 of which is still undeveloped) at a conservative Net Profit of $20,000 per house and you are looking at over a half a BILLION dollars.

Now you know why he keeps his hand in the "pot"? Now you know why he and his employees (Mark Madsen, Mike Wren, Lifferth and Jackson included) are doing his bidding? Follow the money!

Connect the dots! We can get rid of his influence with those who won't do his bidding! Vote to get your City back!
DBG | 4:28 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
@ConnectDots

Can you provide evidence that Lifferth or Jackson works for Walden? Last time I checked, Lifferth works for MyFamily in Provo and Jackson for First American Title in Orem. Neither of these are subsidaries of Walden.

The problem isn't with the current Council or what Walden is doing. The problem stems from the FIRST contract that was signed. Stupid as it was, it was open-ended. You cannot blame the city for this, at least not the current elected officials. Get your facts straight. I'm not defending Walden as I don't approve of his way of business but just like any other "contract" that are open ended, it's a fact of life. Look at your credit card contracts, your DISH/DirecTV/Comcast/Cable contracts. They are open-ended as well. You can terminate them as you wish. However, EM does not have the revenue base to cover the bond if they just terminated Walden. If the council doesn't do what he wants, the city could belly over and everyone would lose their homes.

Until EM gets any real viable tax revenue instead of depending upon Impact fees to pay the bonds for the infrastructure, there is no real way to stop Walden.
Edwin Camacho | 6:16 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
To defend or to trash someone like these are some of the ways that promote corruption! First, remember that Linn is Innocent until proven guilty.
(To the bloger who call himself "idiot" and "R.M."). Linn is not been charged with an illegal way to borrow money, she is been charged at least based on these two codes:

Utah Code 10-3-1304(1)(a) Use of office for personal benefit prohibited.
(1) As used in this section, "economic benefit tantamount to a gift" includes:
(a) a loan at an interest rate that is substantially lower than the commercial rate then currently prevalent for similar loans.

And
Utah Code 10-3-1305 (4)(a)Compensation for assistance in transaction involving municipality -- Public disclosure and filing required.
(4) (a) The officer or employee shall file the statement required to be filed by this section ten days before the date of any agreement between the elected or appointed officer or municipal employee and the person or business entity being assisted or ten days before the receipt of compensation by the officer or employee, whichever is earlier.

In other words she's not been charge because she got the money but because she felt to report it, and as far as I heard, she haven't paid it back either. Honestly I would love to see prove in her favor, because I need to continue to believe in this system.

Please do not believe me...research it. http://le.utah.gov/~code/TITLE10/10_03.htm
I always do. Can you say the same about yourself or your candidate?

Edwin Camacho,

Thank you Mark Madsen...err... Edwin Camacho. This is from the guy who the Walden Machine asked to run for City Council.

Prime example of what someone can concoct when they have all day with their law books to read...

And at least Edwin is honest that he was asked to run by Walden or his people, at least he was honest when he said he said he thought he could play Walden's game...at least he was honest in losing as well.

Don't you guys get it, when you do the dance with the "fire" you will always get burnt? Mr. Camacho is another example of who John Walden thought he could use and manipulate if he were to be on Eagle Mountain's City Council. The citizens of the city have been lucky so far this election season.

You have a myopic view. You haven't produced any evidence to support your claims.

I'm no fan of Walden but those who are anti-Walden certainly have a myopic view. I'm reminded of Gestalt Psychology--Is it a vase or two faces? Apparently you don't see the real picture.

Last time I checked there was a great difference between a "gift" and a "loan". Generally a gift is something that you don't have to return. Where as a loan is something you don't have to disclose, but you do have to pay it back. So if it is loan why is she even being questioned? Answer that "Idiot". Also I watched "roadhouse" several years ago and was unaware that it was taking place in EM.
Edwin Camacho | 10:05 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Just for the record... I never met John Walden until a few weeks before the primaries, and never at any time did he ask me to do anything for him or offered me anything what-so-ever. On the other side Linn Strouse without knowing me, call me on my cell and asked me to run for mayor. I have my cell bill as a reminder. I'm just glad I didn't have to continue in the contaminated political arena of EM.
Wait a minute... | 10:49 p.m. Sept. 15, 2007
Edwin, you sure spent a lot of money to play in our 'contaminated political arena' and you still seem to be looking to do business here. Methinks you are sore that we chose not to vote for a developer lackey? How about you take up stamp collecting or some other benign hobby where you annoy us less?

Yes, DBG, we have no written-in-stone proof that Walden was somehow behind this investigation. But if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck...

Assuming things without facts is your own failing and evident weakness. So produce some evidence. Otherwise your claims hold no water.

To blogger called: "Wait a minute". I'm very sorry that you get annoyed with my true comments with quotes and proof. I'm certainly not bother with your comments, so feel free to continue visit the blog and post as many blogs as you want including mine at Camacho2007.com, even after the primaries I'm still getting a healthy amount of visitors per day. But my friend, if you are disappointed with your own candidates, its just your fault. Yes, I did spend a few thousand dollars in my campaign. The good news is that It was my money. Don't worry about my financial situation. I did it because I care and because I can. I think EM need more people interested in cleaning the bad apples not just from government but from the groupies as well. I certainly encourage the community to blog with their real names in order to stop the gossip. By the way, its almost midnight and I wont be able to respond to any more of your friendly and inviting postings during Sabbath Day. But Ill check up again on Monday thought. Dont forget to pray!

WOW! This is deep! I too want answers. We still don't know how much $ Olsen was accused of taking...All I have ever heard is Lifferth & Jackson claiming everybody is corrupt???? I want to hear what Olsen and now Strouse have to say??? It's time to get answers!

I also disagree with city staff getting some raise when all this is going on...Lifferth recently accused city staff that it was their fault he "double-dipped". If it is their fault --- WHY ARE THEY GETTING RAISES???
Anonymous | 10:38 p.m. Sept. 16, 2007
Mr. Camacho told me that the developer of Eagle Mountain asked him to run... remember that day in the park when you kicked off your campaign Edwin? You admitted it there that you were approached by the developer of Eagle Mountain Properties. Or was this a language barrier type of thing? Was it Mark Madsen who asked you to run... Same thing... Madsen does what Walden tells him to do.

And we are equally as glad you didn't make it as well. Hope business goes well for you sir.

DBG as someone who has the ear of many within the community. I can safely state I am anxiously awaiting the trial of Brian Olsen and the information Ron Yengich will be bringing to the forefront. There are several others who need to be watching it too... most of all the land speculator known as John W Walden. All in due time dear sir.
Mike Smullin | 10:58 a.m. Sept. 17, 2007
These articles are always very embarrassing, but the comments are even worse; at least use real names or cite some documented evidence!

Why should we be so afraid that we must use fake identities to discuss the truth? Indeed, secrecy is the problem here...

This slander has little to do with Linn Strouse and only stands to hurt our reputation among outsiders.
Edwin Camacho | 2:53 p.m. Sept. 17, 2007
Since I started my campaign I took a strong position on the lack of information to the community. In my opinion, EM needs to have a better understanding of what is going on. A newsletter from the Mayor once a month is not enough. This is what I tried to accomplish here in my previous blog entries, with actual fact's and without judging anyone.

I'm a facts and figures type of person and I think most people are. The intent of my original blog is self evident and supports my concerns as a resident and what I was trying to fix by running for office... communication of facts. It had solid information and didn't attack or defend. In return I receive personal attacks, demeaning comments and venomous ramblings by individuals who apparently take offense when presented by a non bias comment and seem to do so for no apparent reason. Slandering people they don't really know for the sake of slandering doesn't change the situation Linn faces, the laws that apply to the charge and the fact that as I stated earlier... she is innocent until proven otherwise by the courts. It's no wonder good people with good intentions refrain from offering their services for public office and why the disappointment of not making it through primaries has been overshadowed by a great sense of relief.
Edwin Camacho | 3:00 p.m. Sept. 17, 2007
I would dare to say that anyone who has the capacity for rationalizing, researching and is willing to have an open mind to any issue but falls short of the emotional, unquestionable, almost cult like dedication a handful of our residents have towards certain candidates, would automatically earn a seat in the "big bad developer" train. No matter what topic you select to discuss with them, no matter what proof is given, what questions are answered truthfully and honestly, the end result is always the same... they hear what they want to hear and it always comes back to the "big, bad developer". So here is my one and only relationship to the "big, bad developer" in writing and on record. I disagree with emotionally based, nonfactual opinions and if that puts me on the train... I'll buy a ticket every day of the week... willingly.

@ Wanting to know
Just for clarification, the reason the city staff employees were alloted raises was because of a study done showed that they were the lowest paid city staff in the state... to me it only makes sense that they be paid fairly for their work, I don't believe the staff should be drug into this when really it's the elected officials that seem to be the "bad apples".
DC Jones aka ConnectDots | 5:15 p.m. Sept. 17, 2007
For those who are relatively new to the city, here's a lil history lesson. I too love the facts and figures. I too yearn to cite precedent, with municipal code, and exact quotations from the public meetings. I search and where I can gain confirmation from first hand accounts and those who were there I cite, as well as direct you to the place where it is stored.

In fact I have talked quite frequently with those who held the office of Mayor and City Council. Those who were here, in the trenches... those to who things were happening. The overwhelming majority of those who were and are in public service ALL say. That Eagle Mountain Properties strives to exert undue influence upon our municipality.

I have talked to the mayors who witnessed the ongoing temper tantrums of John Walden in the first days of the city at nearly each one of the City Council meetings. I've got documentation of when Mark Madsen doesn't represent anyone who didn't vote for him. I have within arm's reach of what transpired to mold this widely held opinion of EMP's tactics and strategies.

Additionally, there has been an ongoing campaign by those who feel beholden to the City's Founder to revise the historical data and "facts" by spreading misinformation or eliminating information all together. Case in point, you can read on the Site of the average joe "Revisionist Dreams Are Alive and Well" where Jackson and Lifferth most recently tried to revise the history of what happened with Mike Wren.

Here's another example. When the city was holding EMP responsible for his commitments, and contractual obligations in 2000 and 2001, just before he pulled up shop and stopped selling property for 2002 and 2003...
DC Jones aka ConnectDots | 5:36 p.m. Sept. 17, 2007
The Paul Bond Administration, along with most of it's Councilpeople would not allow any additional developments to be approved until John Walden paid up on what he owed the City (Sewer improvements... want to know why the City Center pays more for sewer service? along with other obligations he committed to.)

It was found after Kelvin Bailey got into office that all the records for 2000 and 2001. All those contracts and such the like had disappeared. The blame was put on the previous administration for this gross error. However, the evidence shows that Mayor Bond made application and received financing for City functions and improvements towards the end of his term. And that financial funding certainly could not have happened if the records were not there.

Funny thing is, it is only this period of time, when our city officials were requiring responsible development, that the wholesale disappearance of records happened.

Oh yes other records, that other former city officials have told me about have come up missing, been erased, or thrown away. But never has it been a near total two year span that was scurried away.

Couple the incompetence that was prevalent in our city recorder's office previous to Gina, with the ongoing campaign of fact revision from those who the Founder of Eagle Mountain financed to get elected, most blatantly by Madsen (when in city office), by Brian Olsen, and now carried on most brilliantly by Jackson and Lifferth. It has been excruciatingly hard to find out what exactly happened. If you don't believe me, find out for yourself!

Fortunately we still have those who have served, and all their records, recollections, and first hand accounts to piece it all together. Which is happening as we speak.
DC Jones aka ConnectDots | 6:05 p.m. Sept. 17, 2007
Quite frankly Edwin, this influence exerted over the years on our elected officials to tip the scale to the Developer's favor has started from day one of the city's incorporation(Can you argue that in lieu of his Master Development Plan as just one of many examples that could be cited here?)

And it's this, short term memory loss, new-blood unsuspecting residents, revisionist efforts, and the loss of records from previous administrations that the Developer relies on to move forward on his gaining the HALF a billion dollars from this investment he made at an auction over a decade ago.

Am I saying or exerting that he is the one that lost the city records?... by no means, in the past as in some cases in the present there has been severe incompetence within the walls of EM's City Hall.

So forgive me, if I have more information than you do, or that you have been given by Madsen on what actually transpired in the city and with it's municipal powers. I've actually gone and spoken to those who were here, to those it happened to, ZEALOUSLY month in and month out over the last 30 months.

Things are definitely getting interesting aren't they? As for communication, that is what we are doing, we're just trying to get those who perhaps haven't search diligently enough as we have what is on record, what was in the newspaper, and what is in their records of those who have gone before and experienced how the Transplanted Floridian does business.

When I first started searching for the truth, I had no rosy colored glasses, no previous conceived notions. This is where all this continual and exhausting search for information has led. It's all led back to one source, the Founder of the City.
EM Resident | 2:39 p.m. Sept. 20, 2007
I made the decision long before the primaries that I would not vote for ANY incumbent running for office in EM. I suggest you do the same. I am embarrassed when I tell people I live in EM, and the first thing they ask is, 'what's wrong out there?' As near as I can tell, nearly everything. I have only my vote to cast, and that vote is speaking that change is needed. I am thoroughly disgusted with the conduct of the city council. Can we please grow up?

I appluad Edwin for wanting to be involved, and make change, but was taken back by his sour grapes comments here. I sincerely hope that the election brings some sanity to the leadership of EM.

Lowest Paid Staff in The State??? How about mid- to upper-range paid staff among major cities along the Waaatch Front. Are you aware of what the employees are being paid? Not Just Salaries, but other forms of payment --- Did everyone forget that these perfect City Employees were using their city issued credit card to purchase personal products and using tax exemptions and failing to report them?
There are lies being had and we the people need the truth. So far, we've only heard one side of it and alot of grandstanding by Lifferth!!!
