Hey, I understand that bears need to be killed sometimes, when they pose a threat to humans. Whether this one was a threat I would normally allow UDWR to decide. What I regret is violence done to the English language. "Euthanize" normally means to kill someone or some animal to prevent further suffering, or for some similar reason. Let's call a spade a spade here: the bear was killed, not euthanized, for reasons that UDWR thought sufficient. Otherwise, they will have to start talking about how Utah hunters are "euthanizing" elk and deer across the state each fall.
Good. Now maybe we can develop more of that bear's habitat
Kudos to both of the above posts. Stupid UDWR people. Stupid builders.
Stupid DWR people? How soon we forget. Didn't everybody jump all over the DWR when they didn't act quickly or aggresivly enough when the boy was killed by a bear just over the hill from this incident? I guess it just goes to show that some people can't be pleased no matter what you do. By the way Jensen and Anonymous, do you live in a house or are you living in a cave in the mountains? Didn't some developer build your home?
I'm with Big Bob. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, right? Incidentally, the bear was roaming in my neighborhood (I was unaware that I was living in a bear "habitat"...). I was afraid for my family and myself while the bear was roaming free. While it is sad the bear was put down, I am relieved the threat of a wild animal is gone.
