At the end of your article, it says that this kid is regarded as the nations top high school kicker.

Interesting, considering the fact that he is rated the #17 kicker in the country by both Rivals and Scout- the two premier recruiting databases.

Classic case of homer reporting...

The family should have held out for seating between the 45's.
PSU would have probably offered a suite.

How's he the top-rated kicker in the country when national ranking services (like Rivals and Scout.com) have him as low as #17?
Speaking of... | 9:50 a.m. Sept. 13, 2007
You would be rated that low too if Scout never came out to see what he is really about. The second rated kicker on Scout.com was 8-for-18 last year in field goals. You mean he missed 10. Sorensen hasn't missed 10 his entire career. Someone better start scheduling more trips to Utah before seeing how they rank people. And the third rated kicker is a soccer player. Please reserve our bias for what it is and call me when one of the other kickers makes it big time in the NFL because that is where Sorensen is headed. Oh yeah, and about the kickoffs in the end zone, the top rated kickers on Scout.com have had four or five kicks each returned. Sorensen had only had two that didn't clear the end zone and one of those still reached the 2-yard line while he was slipping, so again, Sorensen should be rated as the top kicker in the country.

Haha what is it with Mormons and naming all their kids with names that start with J? I've seen this many times and it baffles me

Word around school is that his unicycle riding is his 'secret' tool he used to kick even further than allowed by weight training alone.
Bingham or Alta | 12:53 p.m. Sept. 13, 2007
If he were at any other school but Bingham or Alta the Des News wouldn't care about him. He is amazing though and does deserve the props.
Dear Wondering | 4:15 p.m. Sept. 13, 2007
Based on your comment if we told you wouldn't understand anyway. By the Way 4 of my six children do not start with a J. None of their LDS friends names started with a J.

I know Justin and he's a great kid and deserves everything he's getting
Monty | 5:57 p.m. Sept. 13, 2007
Wondering . .. doesn't matter the religion, the name "J"a-"J"ing sounds a lot like the $$ Justin will be making a few years from now (that is as long as they write a "I can ride my Unicycle" clause into his NFL contract.) This kid is one of the best kids I know (from a class family) and anyone who can't see that is "J"ust a "J"erk.

What? "What?" . . . so you can't listen to Gunner's wisdom? If your intent on reading blogs about Bingham then waht more can you expect? You want coach Peck to tell you his thoughts? I can vouch for Gunner; you can spin his comments any way you like but you can't deny his arguments/points. The guy feeds the system and played for Peck (can you find a better source?) Either listen up or quit reading about Bingham football.

Bingham or Alta:

If someone was breaking the state record by 4 yards, I don't care what team he played for they would cover it. If he played for North Summit they would cover him. He broke a state record by 4 yards, thats considering that 1 yard is a lot in a kick, just like tenths of seconds are a lot in running.

just to clarify, the joker that said wheatley was better than sorenson was doing just that joking. Wheatley never claimed to be better than sorenson. He is just a solid kicker at Wasatch.

I'm not lds, and I have 8 kids whose names all begin with the letter J. Jeremy, Janelle, Jamison, Janine, Jennifer, Jordan, Jackie, and James. My husband is John, and my name is Janese. So much for your theory.

Justin is just one of several record-setting kickers at Cougarville. Michael Smith, if he's the same one who went to Mountain View, set the state single-game record of five field goals. Then on the track team (I believe he's on a mission now), there's Trevor Heiner, who kicked a state record seven field goals in two consecutive games for Viewmont near the end of the 2004 season. But Heiner also is a seven-foot high jumper and two-time 5A state champion in that event.

Justin has the potential to do a lot of good. One burning question no doubt will be a mission, and there will be plusses both ways. For instance, he could be the one to reach sports-minded Church investigators.

He also has made his last 50 PAT tries (going into the 14 Sept. game), and this achievement is also noteworthy.

Anyway, I wish him nothing but the best and that he'll make good decisions. He has a wonderful future ahead of him. It will be exciting to see what happens.

Another great night kicking Justin. You are amazing both on and off the field. Justin let me help him with his highlight film last year, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life!!! Justin is a class act that knows how to have fun and work hard at the same time. We will miss you when you leave Bingham at the end of the year, but like all true Miners, we bleed BLUE and we will follow you to BYU. I am changing my BYU seats to the Endzone to catch some of those kicks that are bound to go over the nets!!! Knowing Justin, he will set his goal to kick one out of Lavell Edwards Stadium. Good luck Justin!!!

Fyi- Justin also organized and painted the middle section of Binghams concrete stadium walls blue & lettered "Bingham Miners" across its front wall for his Eagle Scout project.

True Bingham Blue!

Look at the former mormon football players who have been very successfull. Most of them didn't go on missions. You can be a good mormon and not go. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Steve Young tells young men to go but nobody would be listening to him if he had gone and didn't succeed. Don't mess with your health in a third world country selling religion.

Is it just me or does it seem like UGG boots are even more popular this year than they have been in the past? Although the UGG brand has been around for the past 30 years and in more recent years more and more people are wearing the 100% sheepskin boots.

Justin Sorensen gets ready to connect on a 59-yard field goal vs. Alta earlier this season. Last week he converted a 62-yarder.
